    Wow Rosignol changed up man, I lived there for a few years with my Aunt, she was the midwife for that area, we used to live on the road to the ferry ,
    also the Rosignol school I attended, I also frequented the backdam, thanks for bring this video , it brought back memories, I was showing my daughter
    and wife where I used to live, also my friends Michael Ali, his sister Zameena Ali, also another friend the Sukuls , the Rodneys, fond memories of that
    place, again thanks for bringing this video, next time I visit Guyana, I want to take a ride up to Rosignol, that main road to the ferry has changed up
    so much, now they have houses and businesses on the right side, that was a grassy area leading to the trench that carry those punts...….

    Wow! Thanks a lot for this beautiful and enjoyful tour. Brings back wonderful memories of yesteryears... I have a humble request, Please see if it would be possible for you to make a more detailed video tour like this for the old rosignol stelling inclusive shops & the new berbice bridge, commerce street in Georgetown & a video from 72 village corentyne (roadside & backstreet) going upto Skeldon inclusive village 78 market. Also, I remember an Esso Tigermarket somewhere between 72 & 78. It would be really great to see those places again after so many years.... Thanks again for this wonderful video & your great informative narration. It is highly appreciated!

    Memories** Wow** The last time I saw Blairmont was 2006 when I was home**My Mom was from Islington Berbice and I used the Big boat or the Launch when we arrived at the Berbice Stelling whatever was leaving first** My goodness it has changed so much the stelling area was always busy with lots of people buying and selling because of the Ferry traffic **Oh the good days**I still think they should update the Ferry Stelling and allow speed boats or Launch to operate to Revitalize that area** I know we have the bridge but look at the area where it is**nothing is happening there **Come on Guyana Government**Help Berbice prosper more**help the small man help himself**I remember People selling Candy and Gum on the Big Boats**making a living ** Anyway thanks for the memories**It was needed and I did not even know how much.

    Memory lane for me....... I had a Survey Camp in Rosignol before the bend to the old stelling. Had workers from Shields Town and Blairmont as work progressed. Really nice memories. Berbice is really a nice place as most of Guyana is. Slavery was abolished in 1834. Cheers Denny on a nice video.

    • @ITSOURLIFEARD
      @ITSOURLIFEARD  4 роки тому +3

      not sure which is correct, based on the internet and history it was partially abolished in 1834 and completely abolished in 1838 #google landofsixpeoples.com/news022/ns2080112.htm

    • @TyK622
      @TyK622 4 роки тому +2

      @@ITSOURLIFEARD ...... 1834 is the year. The slave masters didn't want to do away with slavery as it was free labour. However, it was a dark time in our past for then British Guiana and the rest of the world. Maybe, 1838 they were forced to relinquish their hold on slaves. Many slaves migrated into the cities and in guyana they bought the village of Plaisance ( if my memory serves me ). The ex slaves didnt want anything to do with farming or plantations and took jobs in the city hence the amount of people of African heritage taking office jobs. The Indians were brought in as indentured labour and they eventually owned farmlands and lived in villages away from the city. The chinese were brought in to run the grocery shops and the portugese were foremen for the british whites. Its a intertwined history of the races in guyana and will take a long time for me to explain. Cheers

    • @ITSOURLIFEARD
      @ITSOURLIFEARD  4 роки тому +2

      Tyboy4U I think they called it apprenticeship during 1834 to 1838. I’m not sure which is the correct date because in School they teach the children slavery was abolished in 1838.

    • @TyK622
      @TyK622 4 роки тому +1

      @@ianbynoe6515 .... I don't think so. The Indians had money set aside by the British to be repriated to India, but they didn't go back..... it's that Indian Repatriation money that was used to build the National Cultural Center.

    I am John Douglas and after obtaining my Chemical Engineering degree at OSU, I returned to Guyana and got a job with Bookers Sugar Estates Ltd. in 1973. They stationed me at the Blairmont Sugar Estates and I worked as a Chemist in the sugar factory. My wife and myself lived in the staff compound shown briefly in your video. So I am famliar with the area as far as the sugar manufacturing is concerned. Although I have a few videos of that time, they are not as crisp and clear as today's digital cameras can perform, but it was good to see a review of the Blairmont area. I must mention that when I was there, and at least for the previous 100 years there were no colonial masters, just managers like any place else in the world.

      That means you worked there at the same time my dad did, up to '76. He did welding, his name is Sahadeo. I used to cycle to that estate on the weekends and sit under the big trees there by the main road. I have such good memories of my time there. After all these years(since '76), the memories seems surreal. All the best.

    Much respect to all cane cutters, past and present. I strongly believe that if we are to be competitive in the Sugar industry, we must mechanize cane harvesting and do our own packaging for the export market. Here in New York I see a Jamaican packaging brand selling sugar with the name Demerara Sugar, but the sugar comes from a different country.
    In another video can you tell us if the government licensed the name Demerara and selling it as a product for others to use. I was buying this sugar thinking that
    I'm supporting my country, only to find out otherwise. I just hope that the name is not being abused without compensation.
