Not a bust, purely mismanaged.
He reminds me of Kevin Dotson, who went on to success in a new system.
Jayden Daniels does VR practices daily and credits it a lot for his success. I can't stop thinking how much fields or a rookie could benefit from the extra reps for us next year. I understand the costs involved aren't cheap, but if you want to compete it today's league, these are the kind of things you need to at least consider.
i love russ and justin, i was surprised they didn't resign mason for the secondary reads and the anticipation, and being able to operate out of the pocket(over it)(author smith tennesse offense)
Meyers is a bust not Jones
Matt...THANK YOU for addressing that...RUSS vs ART issue...I think fans ..me included...thought ART SMITH was boring..or not creative...but it just may be...the QB's vision has more to do with our failures
A good line-coach designs blocking schemes to the players he has, not insist that the players play a certain way. Just a thought.
I cant judge a guy who was moved out of his position when he was drafted 1st rd.
Its not like drafting a saftey in the 7th and going lets see if the kid can play CB
Tomlin handicapping his own team is nothing new. Jones in the wrong position, russ over fields, najiee over warren, cam sutton over bishop when bishop had 6 int on season.
Its tomlin
Hey Matt just in general, what you think about Tyler Warren, and what would it do for them to have 3 "stud" TEs 2 guys like Pat and Washington ?
Of course they signed Pat, who's fine but not anything special so they probably would not even look at a TE in the draft now, especially not in the 1st rd. Had to reward Pat though with an extension because he's a perfect Steelers TE, above average. He fits the Jesse James/Heath Miller mold.
Jones is a beast but his scouting report did say that he was pretty raw and needed developed. So the Steelers knew what they were getting. That doesn't explain his fall off from his rookie year though. But there may be something behind the scenes with the steelers that we don't know about. When coaching is terrible, players suffer. We do know they asked him to play a different position. Just let him be a left tackle. We should not have held him up because of Dan Moore.
Go look up at Pat Meyers resume. It explains a lot. Fired after two years with Carolina
@@craigjacobs6249 same as our current DC, fired by the Bengals during the season. These hires by a guy who firmly believes in pedigree when it comes to players. Apparently that doesn’t apply to coaching.
He is very raw and played out of position. I'm not calling him a bust yet. This is my response 10 seconds in. Now I'll hear you out lol
I like the answer and cought me off guard with the title
Call me crazy but I would love if we give Rex Ryan a chance at dc he said he wants a head coaching job but it doesn’t look like he’s gonna get one but it’s a job get him in the building
A better question is, how do you accurately measure a draft pick that you move into a different position during his rookie camp?
Russell Wilson excelled in Seattle when he had a good O-line, a great running game, and good foot-speed. Also, Wilson has never been good at working the middle. Knowing all this, it's surprising that the Steelers still brought Wilson in.
I can tell you that the reasons Tomlin wanted him was that he is a good leader and he’d already won a Superbowl. Plus he’s from Virginia like Tomlin.
I keep saying the Steelers should hire Jon Gruden. Your thoughts?
Hey matt, i dont think brodick is a bust but, i do think roman wilson is a bust. I kno we haven't seen him but we are still looking with a wr 2. Soo what was the purpose of drafting the same player we have in calvin austin. It makes no since unless he is a good run blocker. I think he might have been a wasted pick.
If BroJo is the same guy at LT in 2025 we already know LG is a need in 2026--just sayin'
Seems to have revived Mekhi Becton
I've been hoping the STEELERS would sign M.Bechton...solid vet...maybe really help BroJo
not a bust yet unless you can get Meyer away from him. he will end up on the Rams and make be pro bowler at guard.
💯
Doesn't Brian Flores qualify one of those coaches except he wasn't retired. Maybe also try to bring in a guy who has been a successful coach and is in between jobs. Like Mike Vrabel or maybe Mike McCarthy this year
This is the Pittsburgh Steelers bud, they don’t do that. We will have the same exact coaching staff next year with the same exact plan 😂
Wilson kept second guessing and holding on to the ball. If Broderick stays there is one thing, he is reliable and some of the things he does are fixable. Thank you Matt
Right now yes. Play him in his intended role maybe not.
He is describing Chuck Pagano .
Is anyone else just a little bit afraid of putting brod at left tackle? He has issues finishing blocks and that's gonna be a major issue especially when myles is on that side.
i still think broderick will be a great player on the left with a new coach
If you think Jones is a bust you don't know football
If you comment on a video you haven't watched, you don't know what's in that video. -
@DKPS_Steelers I did watch it why made the comment. It wasn't directed at you it was to those people who say he's a bust
@@dougp5044either Matt spends too much time with Dale or it was DK who replied 😂
Lol ,he was drafted way too high on way too little experience that's not his fault but it also doesn't mean he's not a bust but it's also nipple early to know because they won't let him play is own position .
The injuries have nothing to do with Broderick's lack of development it OL coaching or maybe just Broderick
I don’t think anyone on the team is really a bust, it’s terrible coaching to put these guys in positions that make them thrive.
He’s not a bust. Just more of the same for 1st rd picks over the last decade. Just average to pretty good at times.
I think it is too early to tell; I think next year he will be moved to LT and given another chance. If he still fails then maybe he is a bust at that point. Would like to see him get a chance with a better OL coach…
Bro he makes mental errors but when he’s on his p’s & q’s from the neck up he can’t be beat 1 vs 1. The only time he’s beat physically when he hesitates and certain things that tend to be out of his control more often than not.
You have a player who is talented but raw but stick him with a coach who can't develop players or coach.
What do you think was going to happen?
I can’t say any player drafted by the Steelers in the recent past is a bust. This coaching staff is dreadful and can’t develop players/they don’t put guys in the best position to succeed and lean into their strengths. on top of that, they can’t evaluate talent and continue to sit players that deserve more snaps
As much heat as Tomlin is under right now, why, oh WHY, would he bring back a quarterback who can’t get along with the staff??
Say what? Who didn't get along with what? -
@ Wilson and Arthur Smith, reportedly, are on different pages, and did not see eye to eye. I’m sure you’ve heard this if even I have heard this
@@blairbrownie1223 I've got zero idea what you've heard, but it's 100% false. - DK
Who knows
Most QB and OC have disagreements on plays I am not surprised with Russ and Art not getting along. Stop making excuses If you have watched game film on the way Broderick Jones play you will agree with me. He has no idea on what he is doing, a high school tackle plays better, he has no real technique, no pass protection, you would think he could run block he cannot do that, Look at where they ran the ball always to the left side of the line away from him. He came from a major college program never gave up a sack now he is one of the worst OT in the NFL gave up the most sacks. There is no improvement there at all draft a OLT and trade Jones sign a OT in FA and move on. He is one of the problems on offence that needs fixed.
Give the man a better coach, put him his natural position and get back to me, otherwise it's the Steelers wasting a player and a pick.
I dont think he is a bust. I think that we need a better OL coach. Also, he is on a different side than he should be. I think the holding the ball stat is odd. If you can buy time you hold onto the ball. But if you dont how do you get through the reads?
High end left tackle has spent more time at right and has regressed in many ways. I think he is bust-ING and thats a steelers problem.
The Steelers set Broderick up for failure by playing him on his unnatural side.
To early to tell
How much of a difference between left and right side🤷🏽♂️if he's trash in one side than more than likely he'll be the same on the other side
Its not that easy. Try doing everything with your non dominate hand
Hey Matt why dont you dig up the interview with Broderick where they asked him about Mccormick and he said something like "that guy is crazy. I'm not like that" something to that effect. I think Jones is a physical specimen but IMHO I dont think he has that CONSISTENT killer mad dog instinct. Just an opinion from an old guy who has watched the Steelers since Joe Greene first got here. The great ones like Joe Greene hate to lose and take it personally. And that means even losing one rep.
And just an aside about Wilson, I'm absolutely livid that the media wants to glue Wilson and the Steelers at the hip. I'm purely done with Wilson in Pittsburgh, the Steelers did not need Russell, they needed a young talented QB, not an aged out Vet that everyone has tape on. Wilson brings nothing to the table for the Steelers to improve their situation.
Furthermore, Fields can't possibly improve by sitting behind Wilson, watching Russ make mistake after mistake. Fields and Wilson got their stats via different paths. Wilson had better line play vs Fields, whom had to frequently escape his pocket to survive.
Contrary to most fans belief about Fields, he's not a run first QB. he will stick around to find an open reciever down field.
There just seem to be this big assumption that Fields isn't a good QB, because he runs alot. And then you hear the flipside, that Fields hangs onto the ball too long. So which is it? And when he takes off, he's assumed to be a 'Running QB', that he doesn't know how to be a QB.
Well, this is really confusing me after decades of watching this sport.
There has never been an issue with extending the play, as long as you don't get into trouble. There's a time to throw it away, and a time to take off out of the pocket for presumably positive yards. I think Fields has a pretty good track record of that.
What the hell is 'the media?' What's that even mean? Everyone's some single entity? If so, can I claim them all as tax dependents? -
U can say it- the Steelers r cheap 🤔
How do we continue to have a these poor draft choices? There is only one common denominator.....the coaching staff. I have a feeling that we get these top picks and have no knowledge of how to develop them into top NFL players.
Failure must always be laid upon the top dog of any institution. Some of you sports nuts ought to learn how to be objective and not emotional in things!
We should call rex ryan for dc
Id say the truth is, that the coaching staff are the BUSTS..... Go Matt, bag the player.... not the Steelers who feed your wages
