    “Noooo, where’s the hypnotic and repetitive lyrics?” This isn’t winsome!”
    Carry on, kings.

    1 The Son of God goes forth to war,
    a kingly crown to gain;
    His blood-red banner streams afar!
    Who follows in his train?
    Who best can drink His cup of woe,
    triumphant over pain,
    who patient bears his cross below,
    he follows in His train.
    2 The martyr first, whose eagle eye
    could pierce beyond the grave;
    who saw his Master in the sky
    and called on Him to save.
    Like Him, with pardon on His tongue
    in midst of mortal pain,
    he prayed for them that did the wrong!
    Who follows in His train?
    3 A glorious band, the chosen few
    on whom the Spirit came,
    twelve valiant saints, their hope they knew,
    and mocked the cross and flame.
    They met the tyrant's brandished steel,
    the lion's gory mane;
    they bowed their necks the death to feel:
    who follows in their train?
    4 A noble army, men and boys,
    the matron and the maid,
    around the Savior's throne rejoice
    in robes of light arrayed.
    They climbed the steep ascent of heav'n
    through peril, toil and pain;
    O God, to us may grace be giv'n
    to follow in their train.

    Well done, brothers!
    So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17, ESV)

    I understand the intent, but is THAT what God has called you to do in light of such evil? That's not evangelism; that's the equivalent of yelling out "Jesus is gonna get you!"

      We stayed and had conversations and spoke the gospel afterwards. The intent was to sing truth, worship God, and pray for his blessing upon the ministry at hand.
      It was also to declare to the city and those bringing their children to the event that there is a God to whom they must give an account.
      Love proclaims truth and offers grace.

      Also, the hymn is about Christians martyrs being willing to endure the world's hated for Christ

      For people who have never set foot inside a church, let alone heard that particular hymn for the first time, when they hear "the Son of God goes for to war," they're not thinking about Christian martyrs, they're thinking that your intent is to make them martyrs.

      @@lawrencestanley8989 i appreciate your intent as well.
      We have no hatred toward any, nor our intent to be threatening.
      However, to preach a gospel of grace, one must know why that grace is required.
      As such, it is appropriate to sing of Jesus' reign, his holiness, and his wrath to be poured out on all who do not repent and trust in him.
      We seek to be balanced in proclaiming these realities of scripture.
      The evil on display is to be confronted, called what it is plainly, and then grace is to be extended and proclaimed in Christ.
      Our hope is that many will become part of the "such were some of you" and join in joyful worship of God with a restored sexuality by his Holy Spirit.
      Thank you for your engagement
      Grace and peace

      @@lawrencestanley8989maybe you can't hear the words, so I will help you here.

      People interpret actions however they will in ignorance. You can't tell me that this is an imprecatory song. Even though imprecatory psalms are highly appropriate in this setting.
      Please stop accusing these brothers of "being mean." It's effeminate.
