Uniden Upman P25 PII is mandatory for any modern scanner. But fastest growing technology is DMR, not P25 PII. Loot at Motorola. They are in panic about Hytera and other cheap Chinese stuff. China produce tons of DMR radios starts from $180. It is a revolution. You will have myriads of DMR transmissions in 2015. And it's absolutely crazy that Uniden ignore it.
Thanks for the review. I have never been able to justify the model I. I hoping since this is out now that some used model I's will hit the market. Thanks for your time. Tom
My question is dose the Home Patrol 2 pick up APCO Project 25 phase 1 and phase 2 the Police department in my area are still on Fase 1 and I was just wondering if I could still pick them up on the Homepatrol 2. And when they go to fase 2 my scanner will still pick them up.
Was really hoping to see at least a few of these Newer modern UI design, easier to use and responsive replaceable Li-Ion battery replacing SDCard for high speed eMMC(quicker loading) formatted as ext3 (corruption resistance) with USB MTP (for transfering audio recordings) capacitive , higher resolution, IPS screen Basically, make it behave like a modern smartphone I would pay for this.
I know this comment is primarily around aesthetics and appearance and isn't really about function. With all of the sophisticated technology that's so readily available, especially in terms of the touchscreen display, why Uniden couldn't put a nicer high-resolution display. It would also be nice to refresh the UI. Change the menu structure a bit...add better in-line help for people who are new to scanning or are just occasional users, and add some nicer more professional looking icons and graphics. There's a reason Apple and Google products are so desirable by most. Attractive devices and easy to use devices are what bring in new customers...not a re-hash of the same tech that has been shipping for years. It looks identical to the HP1 but with a fresh coat of paint. There better be some incredibly killer, I can't live without, feature to motivate me to move from the HP1 to the HP2.
I would like to know if it is possible to change some of the “category” labels. I know that this all comes from Radioreference.com and how THEY label things, but (personally, anyway) I do not care for the way they call things “Law Dispatch”, “Law Talk”, and “Law Tac”. It makes it sound like we’re going to be listening to lawyers! If any of you remember the Gene Hughes “Police Call” directories, he called them what they are: “Police” (which included “Sheriff”, “Highway Patrol”, “State Police”, etc. Can we do the same with the HP? Relabel things to our liking?
Mark Lassman Yes you can, however you really need to buy ARC Patrol 3.1 for the complete experience. I have found that it's worth the money. It's made by Butel Software. Butel[dot]nl.
As for the case color, it is similar to what the camera manufacturers used to to. There was the “silver” color (for most folks) and the “black” was called the “professional” color. Yes, they charged a little more for the black bodies even though there was nothing all different about the physical camera. Now, of course, everything is black, for the most part. Though I don’t need Phase 2 (at least for now), the HP1 would be sufficient. However, the silver case color makes it look too much like a toy whereas the black case looks like a “professional” unit. I don’t know why they decided on the silver color for the HP1. Look at amateur radio transceivers and most every other Uniden scanner over the last 20+ years. All black.
Pretty nice radio w/o wasting money on the upgrade. What do you have to pay for it anyway? It's $500.-, it should have every bell & whistle imaginable. The Sentinel Software isn't the best, but you can add extra frequencies if you tweak it a bit. Biggest turn off. A missing bell/whistle, why in God's name isn't there a way to set priority channels? Even the cheap radios have priority channels. Over all its a nice radio, but why can't Uniden ever just "Nail it"?
Your arm is blocking the image for most of the video. I wanted to see the exact antenna connector that comes with it - you didn't cover that. Since you have already "unboxed" it, this video was not a true or accurate unboxing vid. Disappointed.
Well, if the antenna is SMA, it is a pretty good bet that the connector on the scanner would be SMA, as well (it is). Antenna is male. Scanner is female.
Looks good and easy to use.i can't wait to get one and use the improvements.
Upman, it's crazy to release scanners without DMR, NEXEDGE and even CloseCall support! This will lead your company to the same place the GRE gone.
Crazier to not come out with a APCO Project 25 Phase 2 scanner, when that is the fastest-growing segment of public safety communications technology.

Tom
I have the hp1 and love it! Eager to learn how the hp2 is different.
Is the HP-2 a better scanner than the Uniden 436/536 scanners? How does it fit in the car? It appears to be more for home as a base station.
It was very good to watch😀 Thank You
Love the darker color vs the HP1.
Reminds me of what they did with cameras, where there was the “consumer” silver color and the “professional” black color.
I just bought 1 from Amazon! I had been waiting for aprice drop and it was 230 bucks lower!!

Ant it's still cannot do search by multiple frequency ranges like traditional T/XT sereies (aka Custom Search)?
How long will those 4 batteries last leaving the scanner on? Is there a way to listen all day without turning it off?

I Have a Question The's Homepatrol 2 pickup all over the world
from Nassau County NY?
No. Radio scanners only pick up local signals.
Will this pick up kenwood nextedge digital transmissions????????
No, no scanner can do so at this time.
Larry, pick up a cheap rtl dongle , get the program dsd+ a cheap scanner with a discriminator tap and you can listen to nexedge.

SMA connector with a 90-degree angle (as is stated in the video at the 0:45s mark).
that is the antenna itself not the separate connector. What is the connector BNC? male or female? to SMA male or female?
