  • I await my luxury transport on a great Italian adventure. It turns out to be a Fiat Cinquecento... Our destination? Turin! We're not driving all the way... A slab of tourism mixed with travelogue and car spotting, including the pictured Morelli M1000!
More Pandas than you can shake a stick at, and our first view of the remarkable Lingotto former-Fiat factory. More on that next time.
Merch? Step this way. hubnut.org - Grazie Mille.

I visited this factory around 2003 when I worked for Jaguar as a Development Engineer. We stayed in Turin while we were driving a fleet of Jaguar development cars (probably the first diesel S types and XJ’s) from the UK down to the Nardo test track in the heel of Italy and were lucky enough to stay in the hotel that is in the old factory. It is still to this day the coolest hotel I have ever stayed in. We ate our evening meal in the courtyard outside it was amazing. We only stayed one night and then continued down to another overnight stay in Rome. On the journey we visited all the land marks in the Italian job as it was rude not to. Looking forward to part 2……

Sadly, my wife's grandfather bombed the Turin Fiat works in 1940. Such a shame, but we made up for it as a family by buying a multitude of Fiats over the years.

Lovely to see Turin. It’s a great city not only for petrolheads and football fans. It’s full of culture, history, and excellent cuisine. I visited much too long ago for work and for travel, and I would love to go again. Maybe seeing your pictures of the Lingotto can give me the necessary impulse!

2 minutes and 11 seconds in this video and boy, I'm loving it! For the tiny Italian car and "doing" miles in one; I had a Lancia Ypsilon (Pepito I called it..yes, I too name my cars) and we (my lovely and dear wife) had it for 2 years. In that time we pendeled between Amsterdam (where we lived) and Heerenveen (where my parents lived) and Rakovnik (where my wife's mother lived) and mind you; the Dutch driving was done every 2 weeks and the Czech part we did every month. We also did a trip to Hungary for a wedding and went back to Holland via Austria to visit friends and did some touristy things...in that little Italian car....the ONLY way we upgraded to the Lancia Lybra was because of seats comfort on the long trips because that little bugger checked all the driving boxes.....so, hands up to small Italian cars! And now back to the video

Great video 👍. It went from a middle aged version of the inbetweeners ( I was really hoping you would hang out the window shouting 'bus w#nkers'), to a funny version of Mentour Pilot (I think V1 is when the door is meant to blow off?), to the Italian job with a little Mcdonalds review thrown in at the end. 😂. The Lingotto building looks awesome, I look forward to seeing more.

That classic at the airport was a Lancia Lambda. Way advanced for its day! And wow, the Lingotto works are very impressive indeed. Meanwhile in Detroit, the Packard factory complex deteriorated for decades and turned into a major eyesore before demolition began. It deserved better. Anyway, I envy you this Italian adventure! Very much looking forward to future episodes.

@@HubNut they are a Tadis inside, for such a small car they were very roomy. I was planning to do ann engine conversion back in 1996. I was thinking a Punto GT 1242 engine would fit as it uses the same engine block as a 1.1 sporting. It never happened. That would have been a lot of power for such a minute car.

Great to see Lingotto. I was working at Fiat a few years back (just for a week) and stayed in that hotel (Le Meridien)- I can confirm it was a very nice hotel 😀. I must admit, driving around Turin scared the poop out of me - narrow roads through buildings and dodging the trams. I also got to experience Italian driving first hand. Parking space too small, no problem, just nudge the other cars a little and make it bigger.
