possibly the best plug-in I own, not to mention the Opal control in the same bundle which is also absolutely awesome.Thank for such an amazing product at an absurd honest price.
The breadth of sound design this machine is capable of, comprised in one unit, is absolutely unreal. I've had my taxed after-work head in it since the weekend and my god. My only beef is those damn triggers ha ha. If I had a krona for every trigger I accidentally dumped by altering vel, but if I work on a trigger a long while then I'll copy the step or entire pattern before adjusting velocity slider. I am just floored by the variety of sounds and textures this thing is capable of. Today I composed one entire ambient piece using all tracks in a single pattern. Imagine if this was a piece of hardware. Perhaps I'd never go back to working in Ableton again because this has all I need. Love love lurv it. Big applause for the Fors team

Ive watched this entire video probably like 15 times lol. I finally got live suite a month ago so i could use it along with other M4L devices outside of max, and it was so worth it. Fors just makes the most high quality sounding synths around, especially in M4L. And theyre actually looking to the future of sound design instead of constantly reiterating the past

Thank you for attaching a granular device to a sequencer. That's something I think hasn't been done before outside of ppooll and will be very helpful for creating granular ambient music with a rhythm (Tim Hecker comes to mind)
Suggestions (for this already very great Device), I read through the comments and also added my own onto them : - Randomize Button for Everything (maybe also to decide what to randomize with a menu / or just everything - tick the boxes) - Push Integration for use in User Mode - Parameter Slides - Scale Function (lock seq notes into scale - option in which even the random generated notes - by applying modulation on the pitch - are also quantized in relation to the selected scale) - Midi Version (to use with Hardware / Outboard Gear eg. Elektron Machines) - Ipad Version / Mobile Version in general - to be continued possibly.... My own suggestions : - Being able to type in the Note Value of the Steps with the Keyboard - Higher Ratcheting Values (for even more glichy goodness) - More Fx that are applied in the Mixer - Distortion for example - Track Parameters going to higher values (or maybe even unsynced goodness to be chosen by Hz) - Zoom option for the Waveform View of Sampler - Master Level + Master Compressor for the Mixer (and omg think about having a Eq...) - to be continued possiblly....
Those are good ideas, but I think you're missing the point of this device. Fors makes creative tools that embrace simplicity and restriction to think less and play more. And it's not standalone ! Ableton can provide most of your suggestions.

@@publika6883 glad you asked. Constraint control would allow a user to apply different amounts of randomization. So if there was a constraint knob/slider next to the randomization button, turning it up to 100% before hitting the button would randomize the settings quite wildly and give you very unpredictable results. Turning the knob to 2% would perhaps (it is still randomization after all) give you slight variation on the initial or previous state of all the affected settings, giving you more predictable results when needed. I love the option of randomization for stumbling on new inspiration, but oftentimes the results can be unusable, so being able to dial in the amount can be helpful depending on how adventurous I’m feeling at that particular moment.
As a DT user,I believe the workflow of opal is very awesome and familiar. Anyway, Edit a sequence with many parameters without visual feedback is very hard (I mean like DT or any Elektron devices. The parameter lock allows you to see the current status of edited value).
@@ForsFM Will be an instant buy for me also if it becomes easier to see locked parameters on a given step with the resulting lock value [number or graphic]... :)

Awesome machine! I would love a overall swing slider though. So that patterns that aren't fixed to f.e a 16 step sequence also keep on swinging on the right moments. I haven't found an easy way to do this with the nudge function.
Super smart devices!!! I'm so happy to see some P-locking in Live. I think I'll use the standalones a lot too. They sound so fresh. One thing though. The standalone devices can be a bit small and fiddly to tweak and program. A way around this could be to group and assign to Live's macros. But I don't think it's supported. Which is a shame, that means we can't take advantage of Live's macros snapshots or macros randomization.
You can try with a larger UI zoom setting in Ableton Live - but also, the individual devices are mappable, but you need to map to the numbers beneath the graphical controls
Love all your products. is there any way to make them look a little larger in the device tray? They're sometimes hard to read, especially glanta and bokeh.
Could you perhaps add a scale function? Which locks sequencer notes into scale. It sounds kinda counter-intuitive maybe since we can mess with the semitones of each device, but you have added note selection and base key to the sequencer side. Could it maybe even lock the semitone pitch into scale on each device? Maybe too complex
Is there a way to play the instruments with midi while they're in the "full Opal" mode with the sequencer? It seemed like Ess was doing it in this video to preview the sound while tweaking parameters, but when I try I see Ableton's midi metering shows activity, but Opal doesn't make any sound.
A seemingly awesome drum machine/groovebox; any plans or possibility that Opal becomes available in the future as an iOS app on the iPad or an hardware drum machine in a somewhat near future!? If so, I would be all in! 😁🙏
You've got something very special here ... I hope you someday consider making a followup to Opal in the VST/AUV3 world. I think it could be enormously successful. p.s. Imagine dragging an intricately crafted FM/synth sound to a sample slot -- it automatically populates the slot with a .WAV resample of your sound design, using the parameters of that particular sequencer step to determine the length and other relevant properties. The mangling and reshaping possibilities are endless from there. Just an idea.
Looks and sounds amazing! The only thing I was struggling with during the demo was the tiny dot indicating the position of playback in the sequence. It's very difficult to see and it should probably be in a much more visible colour. So you can see it in the corner of your eye while looking elsewhere on the interface. Maybe it's more obvious in Ableton, guess it could be the frame rate of the video capture.
Can I ask how you're navigating between parameters with your keyboard so quickly? For example around 59:48. It seems like you're using your keyboard, but I could be mistaken
Fantastic device. Still exploring it every day something new. Is there a way to record MIDI out of a sequencer for further arrangement? Am I missing something? No mention in manual.
its very easy to deselect a trigger when moving around locks and other parameters under the trigger, which can be frustrating when you don't remember the exact tweaks on that step , can there be an undo button in the next update ? Also will there be a way to click on a step and preview it instead of having to run the sequencer? Thanks
We'll look into refining that a bit. For what it's worth, a step is never considered to be deleted until you release the mouse button, so you can keep dragging in order to avoid that for example. Using the Undo in Live (Cmd+Z/Ctrl+Z) will undo the last changes in Opal. Step preview is on its way. :-)
