A local chap asked if I could make a grill cover for him. Your video is EXCELLENT and I love your narrator; he's got a great delivery and some subtle wit as he describes what the seamstress is doing as she measures & sews the cover. You've created an exceptionally professional, clear, understandable video. THANK YOU!
Thank you so so much for this fantastic tutorial. I have a small grill and can't find the right size anywhere. Now I can make my own, thanks to you guys
Thank you for your kind words! We're thrilled that our tutorial helped you solve your problem. We appreciate your support and hope you continue to find our videos helpful.
Instructions were great. Got my fabric and supplies from Sailrite, made my cover, and it turned out so much better than any shelf/generic cover! The only thing I did a bit different is I added a 2-inch wide strip on the inside of the cover over the corners that face a lot of wear from motion due to high winds with rain and snow storms. The grill does not have smooth, rounded corners on the side tables. Someone suggested using pool noodles on the sharp corners, but of course that was after I had already added the reinforcing strips. I think I might try that idea on another cover I will be making. Pool noodles split in half and tied or taped to the corners might be better than my reinforcing strips.
Thank you for producing this video. It was just what I needed. I need heavy-duty covers for my shop tools. They include a miter saw mounted on a tool support stand and a large table saw. I use and store them in my three-sided carport with a sloping roof. What material should I use, and what sewing machine should I purchase to handle thick material? I'm considering using a fabric like canvas, and my wife's sewing machine will not be up to the task. I'd appreciate any assistance you can give me.
Excellent projects. I would use Top Notch 9 fabric, it is water, UV and abrasion resistant fabric. It would work great for those covers. Also, the Sailrite Ultrafeed LS sewing machine would sew it with ease. Thanks for your very informative reply. I'm going to your website to order the items I'll need. Please don't let my wife know or I'll me sleeping in my garage, forever.@@SailriteDIY
A much stronger material like canvas will work as well. The secret is to incorporate a vinyl mesh with strategic placement. This will allow air in and reduce the typical corrosion found with most pits.
Would it be more beneficial to have the fabric come from the center and angle down towards the edge of each side table? With the flat sections over each table I can see water puddling on the table and eventually seeping through since it is not waterproof.
If the fabric you pick is not breathable, all vinyl fabrics are not breathable, then a vent should be installed. If the fabric is breathable and water resistant at the same time then no vent is required. We used a breathable fabric called SurLast other great fabrics for grills are Top Notch 9.
yea no one has the time to do all of this marking, measuring, sewing and cutting repetition... rather just buy one, rather read a book than doing all of this lol.

Excellent suggestions. Glad it came out well!
Great video, thank you very much! My cover came out great.
Good job!
Ditto!!
The narrator sounds like the kind of guy who will leave the light on for ya
lmaoo
I met him; he would. (But he looks nothing like Tom Bodett. I think he's cuter.) The people at Sailrite are super-nice, and very knowledgeable.
Yes, you can use straight stitches to sew a grill cover.
Thanks for the explanation the how to make

Thanks for sharing
Excellent video thanks
Your welcome!
Are straight stitches acceptable for items like this? What strong stitches should I consider? Thanks. Great video.
Great!! Thanks...
What kind of thread did yall use?

Only if the fabric is kept taught. If the angled fabric is not, then it will have more chances of catching water like a cup.
Is it necessary to add any kind of vent in this cover? The crappy old store cover had a mesh vent in the front, presumably to prevent condensation.
If the fabric you pick is not breathable, all vinyl fabrics are not breathable, then a vent should be installed. If the fabric is breathable and water resistant at the same time then no vent is required. We used a breathable fabric called SurLast other great fabrics for grills are Top Notch 9.
is the fabric waterproof?
No, it is very water resistant and a breathable fabric as well.
What / where fabric to buy ?
You can purchase the fabric here: www.sailrite.com/easearch#!-surlast&ea_a=Application%3AOutdoor-Storage-Covers
Link just takes you to sailrite......How many yards of 60" wide material did you use on this project?
Why no vents on top ?? Unless they are vented properly, most BBQ's rust out since the moisture will be trapped inside.
We are using the breathable fabric called SurLast.
I made a cover 4 years ago, and the grill lives on the deck through Indiana winters. It is in brand new condition---the grill and the cover!
