It's not him singing, it's actually an assistant that helped on the movie, the guy (I forgot his name) had a good voice so they wanted him to do Marty's singing voice. It wasn't Michael J Fox that sung.
He can act, proven by the fact that he didn't actually play guitar, nor sing in this film. He learned a few cords on guitar to make it look authentic, however.

Well, it's especially weird because _Johnny B. Goode_ is an autobiographical song - Berry wrote it about himself, changing "colored boy" to "country boy" so it would sell better. Rock music was already getting itself together by 1951 with _Rocket 88_. I like rap, hip hop, pop, jazz, blues, reggae, and all other kinds of music. "Good music" is more than a genre. Good music lies in every genre of music to date. Part of having an ear for music is to be open to it. Disliking a genre makes you close-minded and limits your ability to expand and learn more about the art form itself. There are songs I don't like, and I may like more songs or bands from a specific genre than I do from others, but I have no favorite genre or even artist. So your comment about "death metal kids not knowing good music" was very narrow minded. I may only be 19 years old but I've listened to everything from Chuck Barry to Behemoth, Metallica to Kanye, AC/DC to Brantley Gilbert. You get the idea. I may not like certain artists for things they have said or done, or for things they condone. But it doesn't mean I don't like their music. Sure, there are Death Metal bands who have burnt down churches, but there are others who do good things too. For example, they stand up against animal testing, child abuse, rape, murder, and so on. And some even educate to an extent. Amon Amarth for example, all songs about or related to Norse Mythology. Not bad for a C average public high school kid eh?

Well, it's especially weird because _Johnny B. Goode_ is an autobiographical song - Berry wrote it about himself, changing "colored boy" to "country boy" so it would sell better. Rock music was already getting itself together by 1951 with _Rocket 88_. While Berry codified the genre, the first rock song he released was the chart-topping _Maybellene_, recorded several months before Marty went to the past, so it's weird that no one recognized Marty playing Berry's style. Berry didn't even release _Johnny B. Goode_ until 1958. But hey, alternate timeline - _Back to the Future_ is a world where electrostatic propulsion can make a Delorean hover.

I like rap, hip hop, pop, jazz, blues, reggae, and all other kinds of music. "Good music" is more than a genre. Good music lies in every genre of music to date. Part of having an ear for music is to be open to it. Disliking a genre makes you close-minded and limits your ability to expand and learn more about the art form itself. There are songs I don't like, and I may like more songs or bands from a specific genre than I do from others, but I have no favorite genre or even artist. So your comment about "death metal kids not knowing good music" was very narrow minded. I may only be 19 years old but I've listened to everything from Chuck Barry to Behemoth, Metallica to Kanye, AC/DC to Brantley Gilbert. You get the idea. I may not like certain artists for things they have said or done, or for things they condone. But it doesn't mean I don't like their music. Sure, there are Death Metal bands who have burnt down churches, but there are others who do good things too. For example, they stand up against animal testing, child abuse, rape, murder, and so on. And some even educate to an extent. Amon Amarth for example, all songs about or related to Norse Mythology. Not bad for a C average public high school kid eh?
