It kind of doesn't really know what it is...it's not a limiter since it doesn't have a ceiling, nor is it a clipper for the same reason...so it's just a clipping gain knob with a fancy title and overly exuberant marketing...
@@levondarratt787 gain matching is intended to be used as an on and off thing, you match the input and output gain to hear the differences b/w the two and actually hear what the limiter/compressor is doing instead of being blasted away by a jump in volume. You can however use it as just an auto gain button of course.
Love the vid. This thing is actually really handy for SFX and way more geared towards that audience. I use it quite often as a last top when designing sound just to quickly add some top end or low end thats squeezed together. It also does pretty well on aggressive isolated instruments (Metal music, electronic, trailers ect). As far as something to just use on music as a whole...nah I dont think so. Really quick and powerful tool for individual instruments though that can shorten workflow which is all we are looking for at the end of the day in most cases.
This plugin is absolutley amazing for Dialogue, I'm a filmaker and I havn't seen anything so simple and amazing for dialogue using the 3-band tool. wow
Love your Snake Oil :) I was kinda waiting for it to show up on your radar, since - full disclosure - I made the trailer for BOOM, so obvious bias there. Still, I myself barely ever use Uberloud on the master, but mainly on individual takes / tracks / groups that get drowned out in the mix, even on full gain - or to get some extra power or even clarity in there. In many sound design scenarios it takes too much time to eq and (mb-)compress stuff, so Uberloud helps me out with that, especially when just pushing individual bands (usually the top 2). Cheers :)
Yeah, looks like a fast, usable plugin - especially for individual sounds. Enjoyed the humor in the ad too. Too many audio companies are up their own ass, music is mostly about having fun.
I'm a big fan of you and your channel and I often comment nothing but good things. But this time, I really wish you'd given the plugin a bit more time and attention. So it clips, I get it, but they have also given you an output gain to turn down - which you made a point of barely using. We also didn't see any of the other features such as the multiband side of it. For once, I think your dismissal was unfair. And no, I have nothing to do with Uberloud. I had never even heard of this plugin until this video. I agree, it is annoying that it clips, but they give you an output knob. Of course, if it didn't have that, I would be completely with you on this. The thing is, although the plugin is probably not for me, it still might be very much worth looking into (yes, I know there's a demo). I just hoped to see more of it in this video. This isn't meant to be a dig, but more constructive criticism. Much love, as always.

Hi Wytse.. i watched almost all of your vids and do like your investigations about plugins. But i think you missed a function over here. Oh... BTW seems like sausage fattener or OTT with 100% wet, producers still do that a lot for sound design. I dont see much point in covering this type of plug from a classic mixing/mastering engineer point of view as it will never make sense in that context.
I downloaded the demo some days ago and I've already produced a couple of tracks using it. I dind't push it to 100% (of course) but I've used it with discretion on some tracks (the drum bus, some synth busses, etc) and I've been able to compensate the gain using the output control of the plugins. The result was a very good amount of extra energy added to a couple of tracks that were already well mixed. To be honest I've no complains with the plugin, that guarantees that sensation, that "sound in your face", at the touch of a button. To be honest: it also has its own chatacter, I could reach something similar with stock plugins, but not exactly that sound. That's the reason why I will buy the plugin at the end of the demo: it adds something you could live without... but now that I've heard the results I prefer to have that "something"!

what really triggered me, is that you didn't put the plugin-clipper on 100%. If it's still "too loud" at 100%, that's when you can complain, in my opinion. Also I do not think this was meant for masterbus. They stated it is for sounddesign and producers. And of course it makes sense to push something to 0 dB somewhere else, than on a masterbus... if your plugins are pre-fader, you simply use the fader to send the right amount of volume to mix and masterbus. So no, this is not a plugin, that I feel I need. But this also wasn't a review, that I feel was good. But not every video can be good right? Just as not every song can be good. Sometimes it's just a song you have to do, before you do the next one.
Pro L2 has autogain. Have you ever bothered to try key modifiers? Seriously? I can't remember which one off the top of my head but it's either shift control or alt, one of the three will move output at the same time.
I love your videos my friend! Very informative! Having bought the plugin i find it extremely useful in sound design. It gives back texture from weak recordings. Something you can do with various plugins but the “one knob” thing helps a lot in everyday situations. I think this is its purpose. :) Not something I would put on my master bus !
I don't like it either, but... come on, if you don't want it to clip, turn the input gain down a few dBs!! You didn't even try the other 2 multibland options and complained about ducking!! Awfulness quotient @100%. This p/i should be called 'Can't mix to save our lives are us'. Anyone resorting to this needs to give up and pull their own plug. Worst waste of cpu cycles I've ever seen - period.

Bit like those that drag and drop loops to make music.
When will you ever use a plugin the wayy a normal person would? Not on an already mastered material for crying out loud. Just load a raw snare sample and process it with this thing and let us see that. Otherwise you're coming of as if you were doing this deliberately. And if you're not, well, than you should maybe read the manual because it seems like your intuition is a bit different than most people's. That's not a bad, nor a good thing. It's just different. And I don't think this plugin was intended to be used this way. I mean, there's the output gain for compensation! It would be nice if it had an option of automatic compensation, but hey, it is what it is. But don't act like you've shown us what does this plugin do by being lazy to pull the output gain down yourself and claiming that the plugin is doing something stupid. Man, you're sometimes hard to watch, you know that?
ah yes, exactly when the loudness shenanigans went into round number three with the """new""" clip-to-zero trend a mysterious style over substance algorithm appears, what a time to be alive
I don’t think it’s meant as a limiter. Pretty flashy but misleading marketing. It’s more of an intelligent gain, to push things up with added clipping and noise reduction. But you can do this yourself. It’s more of a one knob alternative, nothing special, should be about £15 in my opinion.
To be honest, there are are free airwindows plugins that do this as a side-effect and they are great. But, I think the point is that this is a special-purpose plugin for one purpose, as many plugins are. If it works for you and it saves you time, then it can be of value. You really don’t need to spend so much time having a go at the marketing material. It’s hard to watch to be honest and rarely funny. This video could have been two minutes long.
I won't argue about loudness war but this seems to be a bad tool... Absolutely no control at all about ceiling, auto gain to actually hear the sound alteration or even a true peak metering and ceiling...
The Pro-L get an option with the 1:1 button ( you can increase the DB but the loudness stay the same as it enter the plugin ), u can use it like an autogain, but it's not the purpose of this option
the trailer says it's build for sound designers and producers. so not a master bus vst in any way. might do a demo of it myself and see what it does to crazy dnb basses.
this plugin is bullshit. :D but also sad, so many chances to make it really useful and good. its probably a baby of the marketing dep.: "we need a OTT competitor boys!!!"

I think it's because the brains behind plugin design and algorithem writing have little to no experience working in audio. To them, it's all just code
Probably just cut and pasted code off the internet and built a pretty gui round the modules - no actual understanding of audio required.

Please keep the snake oil videos coming! I wanted to test this, but you saved me, I can do better with harmonic distortion and compression….
Aw no multiband example.. video was really entertaining though
Oh the song you always use on this videos is that hit named 'SNOWSTORM' by a band called DA KINDS, right? :D
I didn't like it with 1 band, 3 bands stress, and pushing the low end for something quick on a channel works pretty good.
Very Nice!!!! Oh and the title of the first song is called "Gelatin Nature" by Ooyy
the trailer says it's build for sound designers and producers. so not a master bus vst in any way. might do a demo of it myself and see what it does to crazy dnb basses.
I think it's Sandstorm by Darude... Not Shure though.
Has no one ever thought about turning every volume control up to max? The more shite and distorted something sounds the better. Is that not the point?
Lol why are we still talking about loudness in 2022?
bc the loudness war isn't over
what do you think about the free Tukan Studio - JS Reaper Plugins?
I know that song, it's called; 'I don't want commercials' they suck !
...no no no friend, we love your ''snake oil'' videos so DO MORE, not less!
Oh wow just what we needed, ANOTHER loudness plugin. Smh
It’s just fatsausage with a better marketing department😅
That first song is Gelatin Nature by Ooyy
Overs? Maybe they should have called it OverLoud... LOL
AND DANCE WITH THE DEVIL!
So this is just ripping off the Heavyocity Punish Knob?
Yeah.
Uberloud isn't a plugin that I'd buy.
My conclusion? Take a look at Heavyocity Punish instead.
if you want auto gain on pro l2 you need to hold the 'alt' knob on your keyboard when you rise the gain knob
Sounds like Sandstorm. Can't remember the artist tho
That kind of bro culture marketing makes me want to vomit.
The title of the song is "Sandstorm" by Darude.
this plugin is bullshit. :D but also sad, so many chances to make it really useful and good. its probably a baby of the marketing dep.: "we need a OTT competitor boys!!!"
@ least it was such premium snake oil that it made you laugh out loud.
Waves L2 are the unbeaten destroyer...
Gelatin Natu.. ehm I mean Sandstorm ofc.
Marketing department going BRRRRRRRRRRRR
