Wow! What a great video! All the pages look really good. Great idea to measure the pencils! Your books are such a treasure now, with all the work & all the memories of other people who've added some colour. Brilliant! 😀
I love this idea of a limited palette through a whole book. What a great challenge! You are really doing Rita Berman proud. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.
Oh thanks! Yeah, that chart is a little quirky, I know, but that’s how my crazy brain thinks. 😂 Some of the pencils have changed a lot! I’m just a few pages away from finishing now so look for a completed flipthrough soon!
I just loved your video and all the great ideas; the limited color pencils approach, the idea to involve others and have your book treasure good moments is priceless!!!
I love love love this. I think I get fatigue from all the medias mixed up. Your colors are amazing. I am gravitating more to channels who just simply enjoy the coloring. I really need for my hobbies to be simple right now. Anyway, beautiful job, and how encouraging to know this kind of beauty can come from 24 colors.
Thank you! I agree, there is so much stress everywhere else, I can’t have it in my coloring. Sometimes I like to try a new technique but if it starts stressing me out, I know that’s not the technique for me! And I don’t want to spend a ton of money on lots of different materials. I just want to color. :)
This is such a heart warming coloring video. Your pictures awe wonderful. The idea of using just one set of 24 pencils makes you apply your creativity to each page. I love the idea of coloring at a Starbucks or park and sharing what you are doing with others. On several occasions I have seen artists creating at a table in a restaurant and have struck up a conversation with them. I love to color. I am 73 years old and don’t travel very far anymore. So you have inspired me to grab a small bunch of pencils and a coloring book and go to my local coffee shop or park and color there. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.❤
Thank you so much! That is so sweet of you. I hope you do it, and I’d love if you come back and let me know how it goes! I’m on Instagram too, same name, so if you’re there too, it might be easier to message people there. Happy coloring!
I am so envious (in a good way!) of your ability to dedicate yourself to such a project!!! I think I would have separation anxiety if I left my house for A WHOLE MONTH with only one book and one set of 24 PENCILS!!! LOL And to do the whole book with only those colors is mind boggling to me! However, you are doing a great job and really making it look more like you used 124 pencils!! Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress. In the meantime, you have given me inspiration to reduce the stress and decision making in coloring by using a smaller set of pencils...maybe not 24...how about 48?! 🙂 I will TRY to concentrate on one book, but I think that is impossible for me LOL LOL Thank you so much for sharing your talent, your process and your travel memories.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like it. I have to say that when I got home I did a whole lot of pages in other books with other pencils. 😅 The sacrifice was worth it because I traveled with only a carry-on bag so my space was really limited. I hope you do try a limited palette for at least one page - it makes you be really creative with your choices. If you post a photo of one on Instagram, tag me in it! I’d love to see it. Thanks for watching and happy coloring!
I love your idea of having others color on those 2 pages! Great idea! Your pages are beautiful. I subscribed to your channel so I can watch your progress. TFS your ideas and your talent!
Thank you so much Susan! It might be my favorite part of this project. :). And thanks for subscribing! I hope to be able to publish more often before too long.
Tonja - congrats on your halfway mark in this book! Your pages are gorgeous! So cool that you were able to color some of these while you were there! I love how vibrant your pages are, it’s so inspiring! Just subbed! ❤
I love Rita Berman--and I love your coloring style---this was such a fun video to watch. And what a clever idea to ask others to show THEIR coloring skills! Oh thank you! And it’s a deal! I don’t have plans to visit Manhattan at the moment but if I do, I’ll let you know for sure! 😁 Wouldn’t that be fun, to do a coloring tour and have meetups with colorists all over?
What a great idea---let Colorists know when and where you will be---and we'll each color a small item on your book's' page!!! That WOULD be fun!! Lynn in NYC @@tonjacolors
New sub here! Loving your colourings, girl! I recommend using fixative on your work to prevent it from transferring or smudging. I use Winsor & Newton's fixative. Another good one is the one by Conté à Paris ❤
Thank you so much! I know I should try fixative but I always hesitate because I’ve heard so many horror stories about ruined pages. Thanks for the encouragement! 💙
@@tonjacolors If you use it on dry medium (i.e., no watercolour pencils) and keep a good distance between fixative and paper (30 cm, at least), there shouldn't be any problems.
Great job on half way done! Getting random people to color in your book is so exciting, it must be really scary and fun, but also really memorable! I might actually try that myself! :D But Norwegians don't really talk to strangers, so Its gonna be hard 😅🤣
All my ancestors are from Sweden and Norway, so I understand what you mean. I’m very introverted too unless I have a specific task to do that involves people. :). I don’t ask everyone, only the people who mention it first, so that makes it easier. And in one case it was a little girl at a park who kept coming around and just trying to get a look. I did ask her if she wanted to see it and that led to her coloring in it. Her mom was there so it was ok, and I ended up having a nice chat with the mom too. :)
Great job on all of your pages! Ya know, I've noticed that when I color different metals, the ones that look the most like metal and the most realistic are the ones where the dark and light areas are highly contrasted. Really, it's like that with anything shiny! I used what I learned from that on a mermaid tail and it made it look like it was very shiny and I loved it! But anyway, thank you for sharing this video!
love your ideas! and the colorings of course 😁 I might steal them and dedicate a travel book and some pencils too. I took a pocket coloring book on a trip and macaron pencils, but never got to color in it while I was away.
Thank you! I’ve never been to Slovenia but several of my friends have spent quite a lot of time there and say it’s beautiful. I’d love to visit one day!
Such an inspiring idea about a limited palette! I own no Rita Berman but this has definitely made me seriously think about getting one. Also loved the idea of getting a record of the length of your pencils! If I do I will tag you for sure! New sub 947! 28:0628:06
Thank you so much! I highly recommend Rita’s books. She has four books that are the four seasons but there’s a compilation book with the favorites from each season. That’s the one I have. It’s called Meine Spaziergang durch die jahreszeiten. Her three travel books are really good too! I have the Europa and Asien ones. Afrika just came out last week. Please do tag me - I’d love to see your work! Thank you for subscribing! I really appreciate it!
@@atxroque I buy them on Amazon, but they’re probably available on other sites. I think she made a post on Instagram recently about an alternate to Book Depository, but I don’t remember what it was.
Thank you so much! That’s a great question! I started by coloring a few pages in another Rita Berman book that had a variety of items to see what colors might handle all the things. I knew I’d need colors to make gold and silver metal, and enough greens and blues to handle all the plants. I decided the two aqua-ish colors would do all the water and the three blues would cover the skies. A couple pinks and purples because I just like them for flowers and then a red to round things out. I decided on Polychromos for almost all of them because they’re high quality and wouldn’t soften too much if the weather got hot (which it really did. And my apartment in France had no air conditioning, which was fun during their almost-record-setting heat wave 😅) The sand colored Crayola and the two pink Castles were just because I liked them better than the Polychromos alternatives. Their only downfall is that after this book (maybe before the end) they will mostly likely be stubs and there’s no open stock option. Thanks for watching! 💙
If that lavender came from Castle Arts, I have that set and don't use them! I wish there was a way to give you my lavender one because it's just sitting in the case and not getting any use! I bought them at the beginning of my coloring journey and then right after I got them my hubby bought me the set of Prismas and I haven't used the Castle Arts ever since, except for one time and that was a while ago!
Oh that’s so sweet! Yes the lavender is a Castle pencil. Light lavenders are hard to find and one of my favorites. I do like the Prisma lavender too, but for this book I was afraid the Prismas would get too soft when I was traveling in places without air conditioning. I’ll have to get creative when this pencil gets too short 😅
@@tonjacolors Yea I would send it to you if you had a PO Box! And I totally understand not using Prismas if you're going to be in the heat! And they also don't work as well on certain paper. I have a book by Eriy and I didn't like using Prismas on that paper. I had to use a colorless blender pencil over it, and that seems to work. I barely use my lavender Prisma pencil because it's the only one I have and it's discontinued.
