That was fun! Both did really well. For the price the NEO is the clear winner as it is about a third the price with similar results. And you can FPV it!
@@DroneSupremacy Hopefully DJI tunes the NEO a bit better so you get less washout like they did with the OG Avata. DJI also needs to add some video tweeking in their FLy App and faster follow speeds which is really only a software limitation right now.
@@honeybadger5075 My comment was that it was similar for tracking but can do a bunch more stuff at a fraction of the price, so for me it's the clear winner as I use mine not just for the AI stuff but also as an FPV drone using Goggles with an FPV controller. Something the HoverAir X1 ProMax can not do and may never be able to do. In terms of tracking speed, I am hoping DJI sends out a firmware update for increased tracking speed which is only now a software limitation as the NEO can go 60 km/h when being used in full manual FPV mode.
Okay, got it, but they are not even close in tracking. Hover is much more capable with obstacle avoidance which cannot be added via a firmware. Will DJI increase tracking speed - a big big question, they may say it is unsafe because of lack of obstacle avoidance sensors. Yes, Neo can be used as FPV, but you should buy expensive staff for that, it's much more than the price of the Neo itself. So I still don't see the Neo as the clear winner. These are just different philosophies of drones, albeit looks similar from the first sight.
Hi there! Thanks for the test - 8K will be coming soon to all modes, and we've passed on your feedback about the overexposure to our camera team. Next time would be fun to see them at higher speeds and more turns :)
You are feeling the heat, guys! That's good. Please implement a buffer so the drone hovers in the air for 30 seconds before running out of battery and landing on the ground, please. Auto-landing without buffer is a death sentence.
I like the color science from the Neo, but it is bad at framing. It could be a few feet further away or move you into the frame so your whole bike and body are included. It keeps your head in the middle and cuts off the lower part of you. The Promax does a better job with framing. But I think falls short with exposure.
Great review. Especially like the head to head test. IMHO 8k is overkill for anyone who doesn't produce footage commercially. Most home computers can't handle it in the edit and 8k monitors aren't a thing. Did you try the ND filters on the Pro max?
The drone battle between the DJI Neo and Hover Air X1 Pro Max was entertaining, but I was disappointed to learn the X1 Pro Max can't shoot 8K in follow mode as advertised. Both drones had exposure issues that might be correctable in post-processing, and the Neo seemed a bit too close while following, while the X1 Pro Max struggled slightly. Flying two drones simultaneously was interesting, but it's possible it affected their performance. Despite these issues, the video was enjoyable, and I'm curious to see how these drones perform in future tests with some adjustments.
I’ve been loving my Neo. I own a Spark, platinum, air 2, and air 3. Getting an avata 2 next. I love the Neo for what it is. FPV, camera, or follow me. It’s awesome little drone. Takes a hell of a beating too.
Also seems like the Neo is cropped in compared to the ProMax - they are the same distance from you but the camera is much wider on the ProMax compared to the Neo.
cool, nice video! Can you load a video switching for a full screen from a drone to the other? I mean, on this small boxes image looks pretty similar, I guess ( and hope) full screen will be more evident the difference. TY
@@DroneSupremacy ahh okay. I get you but what if the same named setting equals something different per company. Like how shoe sizes are different across countries. What if a DJI medium is a close up to everyone else. Then to select the same "attempt at a shot" , in this case a non close up, you'd select medium on the X1 but then the medium equivelant on the dji. Would be useful if they laid out what 'medium' is supposed to mean, like... "Medium: a shot framing a person from the knees upwards and their head at around 3/4s the way up the screen" would be useful to compare against say... "Medium: a full body where the person is kept center of frame. This shot captures all of a person at a 2m distance. For a closer shot that crops the person at their waist, select 'closer follow' " If any of that makes sense? 😊
Thanks for the vid! It would have been good to see you try to outrun them, I think the X1 is meant to be a lot faster? Let's face it, if you're going to film biking/snowboarding etc you are going to be riding a lot faster than in this test
Could you possibly bike faster at the maybe a trail with more turns with the x1? I'm particularly interested in it's speed. I tried that with a neo and unfortunately it couldn't keep up.
Such a good video. Best comparison I've watched and it's obvious which one is now the one for me to buy (when they are available here). In a tropical country like where I am I'm so glad that I wont get the over-bright lens of the over-priced Hover. And I know you adjust the distance and height on the app for the Neo also. 👋
Did you get ND Filters for Neo yet? I just Got Neo (month delay in US) and had Freewell Magnetic filters ready to go. Also if you use a compatible controller for Neo (RC-2 for Air 3/Mini 4 Pro is perfect) you can set sharpening to -2 and same for Noise Reduction. Much improved image with these changes.
I absolutely love that you took them up together! So hilarious and fun..like dogs fighting over you for attention, and I love how you talk to them like their little droids! ha ha ha I'm surprised how awful the footage is out of the X1...that's so over blown...I don't want to do any extra post editing...just have fun and show off the clips...but the Neo can't fly very well...X1 is smoother...sigh..neither are great in all aspects in the end
Fun video was waiting for a crash but awesome result. My mini3 pro or air 3 can't track like that, so how much do sensors really help, I think the sensors uses so much resources that the tracking suffers
I agree with the neo a good opton or a low price. But the hover is a clear winner with 8K possibilities and better low light performance. The Hover also is more like for pros which a lot of individual manual settings. To me the NEO is a good toy but still a toy . The Hover has a beacon and can also be used like FPV
It is hard to call a winner except on price. The Hover does follow better as you correctly stated it stays back which allows it to adjust its movements more gracefully. The Neo is like a chihuahua that wants to crowd you and that causes it to mess up. The Neo oversaturated the sky and caused the shadows to be too dark. The Hover treats the shadows better, but overexposed some of the sky. Some of the light was also overexposed by the Hover. Considering the price is 199 for the Neo and 799 or more for the Hover, one must ask, what are you getting for an extra 600 bucks? I'm just not sure the Hover can be justified unless they add a whole lot more tricks to it's stable. In a bad economy, price is king so for Hover, if the price is adjusted below 500, there may be a case to be made for it.
But great video anyway. I’m waiting for my pro max drone. I will use it for my running in the woods, so i hope it will avoid branches better then my dji air 3 drone that i also used in follow mode and had many issues in the forest
@@DroneSupremacy The Neo (without controller) will only fly and follow a person. Maybe start simple as possible with just a piece of cardboard cut in a rough human shape? Then a smiley. Then a drawing. Then a photo of you or Trump or Taylor Swift. I don't think that matters. I could tie a dead body to the back of my trike but then the police will also follow me. I may not need a drone at all if they give me the body cam footage. Remember if you change the size of the picture the distance the drone follows also changes. So if that picture is too small the drone will follow too close.
I think there's another video from a german guy cycling way faster in a forested area. There were lots of sharp turns with challenging obstacles and the Dji was left in the dust.
Why do you assume I work for Hoverair. I'm from Singapore and I'm a swim coach. I just bought the first X1 Pro with my hard earned cash. I've seen what the Neo can and can't do and what I'm stating are pure facts. So please do not go about shooting off your mouth unnecessarily. 😂

They said last week that 8k for all modes is coming in an update. So I guess they just didn't have everything fully ready in the release day firmware.
The updates will enable 8k in all shooting modes. The X1 pro series will only get better with time as they introduce more firmware releases.
