Interesting, I believe that question how much is in connection to what you feed. If someone is using mixtures which are lower in energy then pigeons will need to eat bigger quantity of food. We feed in general 10 grams per pigeon morning and 20 grams per pigeon in the evening and are using mixtures which have relatively hig energy

When the weather is cold, feed the bird more, birds needs to warm their body. Add more corn.

I still stay close to the amount in the video though. I may adjust my mix on time of year and weather. I adjust for racing and I do increase corn for colder weather and barley for less cold winter days. Unless I’m breeding or mounting then I give max protein.

How do you feed for your longest races? Can you make a video of it? Thank you for sharing your knowledge

Thanks for asking Ralph, I will work on a video to show what I do for feeding based off length of races.

Is that amount, 1 can for 6 birds, once a day or twice? Thanx for sharing!

@@RichOnLife-1 I’m sorry I should’ve clarified that! I feed that amount twice a day, once for breakfast and once for dinner.
Also when the breeders are pumping babies I will add a little extra in the mornings so they keep feed in the feeder most of the day. I prefer my babies to eat as much as their parents want to feed them.
I do change up my mixes during racing for the birds on the race teams but I keep using the same amounts throughout the week except on shipping day. I will do some videos of those too, I just don’t keep those mixes on hand until closer to race season.

@@SevenStrongLoft Great, I thought that, that’s about the same amount I feed also. I also keep pellets in with the breeders.
I feel the parents feed the babies pellets and they are easy for them to digest. Once weaned, no more pellets. Thanx for the reply.

@@RichOnLife-1 I tried pellets a few years ago but I didn’t like how damp the droppings were. I have been debating on trying the meat chicken 19% protein pellets at tractor supply mixed in to approximately 25% of the feed this year.
I guess I have to decide soon because I started getting eggs yesterday!
