Can you test the total weight with the covers included? Would like to see how heavy that is in your pocket. Also can you able to play 2 games split screen at the same time? I heard fold phones heavily throttle games due to lack of heat dissipation, is Honor and Xiaomi the same?

I have this. Got it about 2weeks back. I sold my fold 4 and decided no more to Samsung this time. Had all the fold right from the first one Samsung got out. Totally happy. Found gspace for the Google apps. I see your video has all the Google goodies. Wishing I could find a way to sideload that.. Hope they come out with the Global rom to download. Otherwise absolute satisfaction. Great Video as always Glenn.
Thanks well they sent me this early pre release which does have Gapps out if the box. But it's not a final software so this is why I couldn't cover it in the video. But fantastic phone. I really love it.
As many of you know that Honor is no longer related to Huawei in any terms now , all the honor smartphones and foldables will come with google mobile services right in the device . You wont need any other third party apps like gbox ,gspace for the google apps, so your all good to go. Honor is really going all out with ther devices , im currently using the samsung s20 fe and im sure my future phone will be from Honor ,really impressed by them ,especially the value for money you get.

Chinese foldable hardware designs are definitely impressive..I had my hands on the Xiamoi Mix fold3 for about 2wks and it was incredible..it was a bit top heavy because of the Quad cams, which made it feel unbalanced in your hands.. and its peak brightness is 2600nits but I really didn't feel it was brighter then my z fold4 or z fold5..
With that being said hardware design doesn't matter if your cellular company does support it like Verizon and if the software UI doesn't do what Samsungs UI does when it comes to multitasking and apps optimization..
Unfortunately I sent back the Xiamoi Mix fold3 for those reasons..so the Samsung z fold4 and z fold5 are my main phones once again..
Basically the same reasons I'll not hang onto my Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
May I ask what apps optimizations does Samsung have? Because my Fold 3&4 were useless to me, when multitasking in vertical mode. Had to turn the unit 90° every time in order to get a wide enough screen for two apps. If not, in the vertical position I had both apps and web browsers behave erratic with missing buttons due to the narrow aspect ratio. Using single apps worked best, so they weren't condusive to multitasking.
Although I do assume the Chinese units have clunky, cumbersome OS, but I am thinking I am a minority that feels the hardware is more important, which is why I would appreciate more insight why you had to go back to Samsung.
Personally, I will be going for the OnePlus, as a safe choice and middle ground.

Thank you for the video. I'm not really concerned with the banding on the Xiaomi. It has a bigger screen and better screen to body ratio. One thing that could really be a deal breaker for me on the Honor is the lack of wireless charging (The Xiaomi has 50-watt wireless charging) which is a major bummer as I have wireless pads all over the place. and the lack of water and dust rating. .... is a bit worrisome (No rating for the Xiaomi as well). I trust what you say about the hardware, but when it's all said and done, I'm not very happy about the lack of wireless. I know it's lighter than the Xiaomi and the lack of wireless charging and slightly smaller screen are probably the reasons why. Personally, I'll take the extra 28 grams and the wireless capabilities any day of the week. The other thing I noticed is that the hinge on the Xiaomi is much more reliable in terms of not flopping down at certain angles like the Honor does. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment yes the wireless charging on the Xiaomi is great and 50W amazing how they managed to fit that into it. Have used both now for a while it's the software and cameras of the Honor that have after it over the Mix Fold 3.

Also, my understanding is that MagicOS doesn't allow horizontal splitscreen? e.g. watching a UA-cam video on the top with a browser open below. I'd also be interested to know what you think about the fold in the Magic V2 after a month of use. One Chinese reviewer who has had it for a month feels that the fold becomes more visible/spread out when compared to the fold in a Samsung when used over the same period of time.

Mix Fold 3 for the win! I hate how the Magic V2 is curved on only one side, that's just annoying to look at. You rather curve both side or flat screen. It look better that way. Any foldable that's not at least 8" isn't worth it. What's the point.

The thinness of the honor is incredible, and for someone who does drone piloting (and use my phone as the monitor) i can see how it'd be useful for me. My only nitpick would be the camera layout that isn't flattering, and the foldables' price is not going down after all this time 😭
Yea, the hardware of the Honor is awesome. My only issue is they are a state-run Chinese company. The US Government doesn't make a phone, but if they did, I wouldn’t buy it either, for all the same reasons.
And once you buy it the resale’s price drops 60% that same moment you bought it ,

I get 4G+ this version looks to be Chinese hardware with global rom. So not all the bands are there. Final global release we are told will support 5G.

Hi Chris, excellent review. I purchased a Vivo Fold some time ago. Great phone but with a considerable amount of Chinese content which makes certain things difficult such as the keyboard (had to download another) and saving apps to the home screen. Will I have the same problems with the Honor? I imagine I won't be able to get google pay on the phone? Jack
Hi no it's much, much better in that regard with GMS out of the box and no Chinese apps at least with my version I have with the global ROM. I had the Vivo X Fold and Fold 2 due to the software I just couldn't keep and use them full time too frustrating for me this Magic V2 is completely different so much better.

Go for the xiaomi bro mix fold 3 is google friendly , and will resist you great amount of drops , it’s a tank , plus you’ll get 4 years of software update and 5 years security update , also that big screen in and out it’s a thing of beauty when it comes to b3 productive or just chill , honor will most likely cancel its global lunch , instead they launched today a garbage called vs 2
had a few drinks one night last week and ordered both the X Fold 3 and the Magic...The Fold 3 came in 4 days (to NZ). Still awaiting the Honor but think it arrived today. I can only say one thing. If the Honor is better than the Fold 3 I'd be mighty impressed. Managed to load everything on the Fold 3 and must say it's considerably better than my Galaxy Fold 4 in several respects, one of which is auto-call recording. Of course, there's also size, weight, etc.
I like the Xiamoi Mix fold3 better because of the bigger screens..
Mix Fold 3 can go to 2600 nit for in and out screens. Also has better cameras with bigger sensor and ois.
It's only the outer screen and when measured it's just over 1100 (in sunlight)

Its so unfortunate that honor didnt add a proper periscope zoom and wireless charging especially since its going to get a global release (albeit in 2024). Really dropped the ball there this could have been the ideal foldable otherwise

What brightness level was the V2 at when you did the PWM comparison at 6:35 ? Honor are constantly banging on about their high PWM rates and then only implement them at below about 50% brightness which is useless for PWM sensitive folk like me.
He said that no PWM banding even at below 50%. It has very high PWM (3840Hz).
@amfrepo 'no PWM branding' visible on a 60fps camera does not mean no PWM. Other Honor phones brag about the same 'flicker free' display but it's total marketing BS. It still has bad PWM above 50% brightness, this looks the same

Prices from 8999 RMB (16G+256G) or 9999 RMB(16G+512G) on the Chinese Honor site as well as 4 colours (Black,Grey,White and Purple)
Honor mentioned Q1 2024 for the global release and a price in line with that of the Magic Vs (which means 1599€, at least here in Germany) - that is, too late and too ezpensive, by then the Galaxy Fold 5 will surely be cheaper

Have to give it to Xiaomi on the hardware side of things. Mix Fold 3 in my opinion is the most impressive foldable at the moment, looks like a normal phone when folded.
Chris does not understand Xiaomi's product philosophy, that they want to provide the coolest, most intensive user experience at the most favorable price. This may involve trade-offs in certain areas, such as faster wear and tear with intensity, but we could talk about this whole idea at length. They can surprise me year after year with their designs, the most innovative company on the market :) I only buy from them what is intended for the European market. :)
Chris is one of the first reviewers who was checking Xiaomi products and i'm sure he understands quite a lot. It's not negative to point out flaws with software, instead it's valuable feedback for the company@@rolandszocs727

Just because a company says it's philosophy is to cut corners in order to bring prices down, that doesn't mean reviewers shouldn't point out those flaws in reviews. He's reviews all sorts of budget hardware and even liked the Mix Fold 3, but the software not being as good as other foldables held it back. Totally fair review.

If we are strictly talking hardware, the back camera hardware would've been a draw because on the Xiaomi, it has a 4th telephoto lens that goes 5x but on the honor, the megapixel count is higher for the telephoto. On the front cameras though, Xiaomi gets the win hardware wise for the 20mp cameras vs 16mp on the Honor. In real world usage, I'm pretty sure it doesn't make much of a difference but if we compare these hardware specs, I'm wondering why you didn't mention these details.
From what I've seen the magic V2 cameras are better the qualitym but yes the mix fold 3 has the better zoom camera.
Hey, do Honor V2 has working stabilization in 4K30/4K60? I saw video from Tech Spurt and it looks like it doesnt have sny stahilization in 4K. Also zoomed on video looks horrible, like through damaged lens... I dont know if his unit is defective or what.
Can you switch lenses during recording in 4K30 or 4K60? I had Huawei P60 Pro in my hand and I could change lenses in 4K60, iPhone lock out at 4K30.
Software is not final yet that's why, he isn't meant to show that lol as it was under embargo and not meant to be covered. But yes 4k will have EIS and change lenses at 4k30. Using 4k60 no.
The display banding is only an issue when filming the screen, right? You won't see that with the naked eye.
I would be thinking the Samsung displays in the Xiaomi would be of superior quality, but I have yet to hold one in my hands.

1) Can you use the big screen with 4 fingers (for 4-player games for example)
2) Can you have a diaporama lockscreen wallpaper that changes each time you turn on the screen?
3) Can you connect two Bluetooth audio devices at the same time (can you control each device's volume?)
4) Wireless reverse charging?
5) Can you select per-screen refresh rate? (Ex. Small screen 60Hz and big screen 120Hz)
6) Can you separate an app's sound to Bluetooth device? (Ex. Spotify on Bluetooth speaker and other apps on phone's speaker)
7) Any notification delay issues (even when disabling app battery optimization?)

1) 10 touch points max on the screen. So 4 fingers yes or two hands.
2) Xiaomi has dynamic animated wallpapers also via thems you can get changing wallpapers but not each time its turned on.
3) I have my two BT earbuds but it will only play music and to one
4) Yes it's in the setting reversse charging
5) No it's global so 60hz for both or 120hz or dynamic
6) Don't think see
7) Yes noticiations issue being delayed or needing to app to run even with all permissions given

My Honor Magic v2 doesn't offer the same performance as yours, it heavily throttles while playing genshin Impact, the battery gets drained even if I put it on standby mode, and the camera performance isn't even as good as Redmi K60 ultra, I have no clue what's going on with honor
From my personal experience Honor isn't a flagship brand

Camera bumps look ridiculous when creating skinny phones. I hate hole punch etc on selfy cams.. I wish a brand would come out without selfy cam for those of us not arsed about IG etc. Bigger battery.. or offer the mix 3 for example without a camera. But much larger battery and no bump.. be interesting to see if there's a market
But honestly speaking I was in China and tasted all those foldables coz am foldable fun n was tired of Samsung only mix fold 3 passes my taste n had to buy it camera of v2 didn't please my taste that much & on selfie many Chinese smart phones are not gud at selfies few pipo noticed that only mix fold 3 has beta option camera for 👍 selfies & main camera performanced better then all foldables I know
I've found for me at least the Magic V2 cameras better. But I am on the beta Global ROM for the Magic V2.

But no wireless charge is almost a deal breaker. I'd rather have wireless charge than pen support. I pretty much never used my pen with my fold 4. But it'll ultimately come down to the price of the global version as to whether or not I go back to Samsung.

Why are all reviews on UA-cam ignoring the fact that the honor v2 supports stylus pen? I mean come on, at least make a mention of it? And both the cover screen and the inner screen support stylus pen input.

both phones are incredibly great specially the Honor, but I will stick with Samsung for now because they have great customer service, warranty and offer a free 2 year insurance for the fold. Foldables are expensive so those offerings are big deal for me

Still prefer the Xiamo Mix Fold 3's aspect ratio which gives slightly bigger screen real estate both inner and outer.
Other than that the Magic V2 , hardware wise, has the Mix Fold 3 beat.
So looking forward to see the software front between these two and ROM support.

Certainly in terms of software Xiaomi is superior. Also, imagage capability of Xiaomi are far superior with 5x optical zoom 4 cameras

xiaomi miui has an anti-flickr mode in settings. that should solve the flicker problem

Your brain mixes it up, because it prioritizes lighter information (same reason why 3D video works).
The flicker is only an issue if your are filming the screen, he is presenting it to be a big deal when it is a zero deal...but that is only my opinion

In last century it was required by industrial safety to have at least 100Hz PC CRTs because in CRTs flickering was connected to refresh rate. All doctors said that TV destroys vision because CRT TV was flickering at 50/60Hz.
PC LCD went to 50Hz/60Hz again (from 100Hz+) just because frequency of flicker could be decoupled from refresh rate by using faster PWM switch or it could be completly without flicker (Flicker-Free monitors, big marketing push 10 years ago).
Did you never saw doctor, never had eye strain from monitor/TV and never heard about flickering effect on health, all that while being grown adult?
It blows my mind that something that I learned when I was 6 (first elementary class) is such unknown fact to so many adults.
I still don't understand why samsung didn't use this size and ratio for the fold 5. Yea this phone has the correct size screens but the software is the drawback with this one. If samsung would use this size on the fold 6 with its IOS it will be a home run.
