I agree that BN and even StarForce are going to take awhile because of the pvp, which is one of biggest that makes both of these games special. So, all we can do for now is just wait for when it’s release.
Merchandise for the Battle Network/NT Warrior branch of the Mega Man Franchise is still trickling out, so as far as I'm concerned there's still hope for a proper Legacy Collection. Kotobukiya just announced some snazzy model kits for Megaman.EXE and DarkMega due out towards the end of this year, with hopefully more EXE characters on the way (Protoman, Bass, etc). At this point, though, I'd be happy with just ports of the individual games to the Switch Eshop.
Right, they clearly still have BN on the mind, it'll just come down to *how much* it's on their minds. I can't imagine they'd give Battle Network the shaft on a collection specifically, especially since Battle Network was MASSIVE in Japan. Admittedly I wouldn't handle a digital only re-release all that well.☠️ This series definitely needs a modern physical release for preservation's sake, seeing as the games are so old by now.
I feel like there's room for a Battle Network X type story with a grown Lan and an upgraded Megaman. Plus it'll give us the chance to see his kid and their navi.
I would *love* for them to take an approach like that, honestly. Getting to see the cast all grown up and not just the tidbits of dialogue we get from them in files from the Starforce games would be SUCH a huge deal. But I also wouldn't mind it if they wanted Battle Network's story to properly end with 6.
Not even just the PVP, but I wonder if they'll also be willing to make certain quality of life changes. Making the event-only chips accessible in game, rebalances to the reward systems to minimize grinding, bugfixes, translation fixes (including a complete retranslation of Battle Network 4), re-implementing BN6's Boktai crossover content, including Operate Shooting Star and Double Team DS instead of (or in addition to) Battle Network 1 and 5, adding digital versions of the E-Reader cards (that at least should be in the cards considering the Zero collection), and emulating the Battle Chip Gate, Progress Chip Gate, and Beast Link Gate.
I'd absolutely *love* if they were willing to make those kind of changes, especially given that BN is kinda the first MegaMan series where the different re-releases like OSS and Double Team *do* change things up significantly enough to warrant consideration. And since DS emulation is on the table becauze ZX happened. I'm not confident they'd be willing to go that far personally, but I'd LOVE if they did.
@@-ZRG- I did not realize until now how vast the functionality of the various chip gates was. If not, they could take advantage of 6's definitive patch for inspiration on how to implement stuff like that.
@@-ZRG- Oh, one other thing I remembered. The option to turn Press, EnergyChange, BlackDisguise, and the Alpha Detector into key items instead of Navicust parts.
Indeed. This is very understandable considering if they're all going to be in the game, how are they going to implement it? As long as I can play it on PC, I'm fine.
Personally I've resorted to just homebrewing my New 3DS XL to run the roms as 3DS executable until Capcom lets me give them my money.☠️ I still have cartridges for White and Falzar, but unfortunately they don't retain save files anymore.
Yeah, GBA cartridges have a battery in them that allow them to retain save data when not being played, and eventually those run dry over the years. Theoretically I believe you can replace those batteries in GB and GBA games, but I'm not one to want to dig into my cartridges. That's another reason why these collections can be in demand, because the original software only lasts so long.
@@-ZRG- fuck! I figured that only happened once and then it was fine. My bn6 did that years ago and I started replaying it recently with the idea that this time it would stay since the first file already erased on its own
idk, we`ll have the 30th anniversary of Series X in 2023. If capcom is working on a legacy MMBN collection, I'm sure it will take a while to be announced. But hey, buy some of ours useless souvenir (action figures, shirts) to celebrate the anniversary of one of our most popular franchises.
On the other hand, we already have Legacy Collections for the X series, with plenty of merch for X still widely available. If they do anything for X's anniversary now, with those bases already covered, how huge is it likely to be? Big enough to impact the Battle Network collection all that much? The only thing I can think of that MIGHT derail Battle Network plans would be a totally new X game. Which isn't totally unlikely given that we got a new game for the original series. If they do make a new game, though, I would hope they cover the Elf Wars.
I'm just tired of being in BN "wait and see" hell. I'm pretty confident a collection is coming sometime, but the wait is just... Eurgh. I'm at the point where I really, really want to play through the games again, but doing so on the original hardware is unappealing since all of my normal DS systems have broken shoulder buttons (likely because of BN in the first place) so I'd have to go all the way back to an original GBA to do so, which isn't great. I'm just not a huge fan of emulation in general, so that's not an ideal option either. I've been playing 4.5 with the translation and traditional BN gameplay patches to have *something* but that game ain't great and it always seems like there's a bit of battle lag that's messing me up, not sure if that's an emulator issue or my controller or the game / patch. Plus if I'm going to do stuff like chip and folder grinding and playing both versions of games I would want to do that on something I'll get a lot of play of into the future, not start it on an emulator and have all that time wasted when a collection does get announced. I definitely hope it's a collection and not just Switch releases
I'm tired of it myself, truthfully. It's such a painful position to be put in, especially given the *lack* of mention for it in any Capcom leaks in recent memory. I'd personally just broken down and modded my 3DS to run GBA roms as Virtual Console exe files, but it just doesn't have the same feel to me that I'm looking for.
My hypothesis is that they have licensing issues with Konami about the crossovers with Boktai, which were a major narrative and gameplay aspect in the second half of the series. With Hideo Kojima gone, I doubt Konami is going to be that cooperative.
Yeah, that was something else I'd considered too, though I thought that was also why the Count scenario was cut from the EN version of Battle Network 6. Though I could very well be mistaken on that front.
I honestly didn't know lol This video was more of an outlet for me to try and research the patterns present between the other collections, and try to make sense of the situation for myself and others. It's *also* why I'm trying to work on a similar follow-up video covering the current reveal state of the Collection, because given some of the trailer footage? I'm not *quite* done talking about it yet.
Nintendo did a lot of translation work in exchange for releasing games that otherwise wouldn't gave been released in the west back in the day. In most of these cases Nintendo "owns" the translation, which means a new translation would have to be developed from scratch. That could be the case with MMBN
On one hand, that'd be pretty dire and create a lot more work for them... On the other though...it'd give them an excuse to make Battle Network 4 look like it was localized by someone getting an actual paycheck, so...🤔
I doubt translation is a issue in these modern 2022 times. People have dubbed anime and games for free for years On top of the fact that the words already exist in a translated format They could easily improve upon the dialogue if they have to start from scratch or at the very least make it similar to the international counterparts... Considering that they exist on the Nintendo Wii u eShop I like to believe that getting Nintendo to give the okay wouldn't be a issue Especially considering how they zero and zx legacy collection already exists
That would be cool. I noticed recent Ace Attorney games has Japanese names, but the re-release of older games still retain the localized names and terminology. I never played the series before, but I wonder if that would create inconsistency due to different localization methods. If Battle Network were to localize from ground up, it would help polished the localization that faithful to the original.
Rollback of BN6 eSport community shows we still love the games. Difficulty is implementing multiplayer and locked content when they were a blip in their time and oddly an artifact shoved your fresh BN Wii U file. Random Gospel 500 chip and such fighting two Metts 10 min in the game
I heard somewhere that there could be a MBN mobile game. If that is true then they would want to release the BN collection and the BN mobile game at the same time for marketing reasons. I really hope they at least release a BN ,SF and legends collection
I've definitely heard talk of a Battle Network mobile game, and I'm...not too hot on it personally. Well, if its the ONLY Battle Network game to come out for the anniversary, anyway. Celebrating a series' 20th anniversary with a Gacha game would just seem really tone-deaf coming from them. And God, I REALLY want those other Collections too. I've always wanted to try Legends, and Star Force is just *more* Battle Network esce games for me, so yes. Please.
It is arguably far more fitting for BN compared to other series aside from maybe Starforce. The prospect of your phone functionally being a modern day PET is likely where it comes from. And hell, I could even see them toying around with some AR implementation for a Starforce gacha game's combat to simulate the Visualizer.
I feel the reason NERD tested BN5 was to test the frame blending effect in ACDC. When you're ready to go to Dr. Regals base, a Helicopter will show up in ACDC Town's park. A real GBA Screen will perform what's called frame blending. The Shadow is a solid sprite that flashes every other frame. But when you use frame blending, you get the illusion of transparency. The Wii U emulator doesn't do frame blending by itself. Capcom added code to their BN5 ROM's to send special instructions to the CPU to do so. When Prof. 9 was making the Virtual Console patches, which allow you to turn your legally dumped....or not legally dumped GBA ROM's into virtual console ones, they had to make a frame blending patch and a non-frame blending patch because there was a chance people would play them on a real GBA and these instructions would crash it. Interesting , the NSO GBA emulator has multiplayer. The Wii U didn't have it since Nintendo didn't code it, but here Capcom wouldn't have to spend time coding their own emulator if the Multiplayer functionality in NSO is solid. If they want to do a legacy collection, I think they'd have to code their own emulator, especially if they want it to be multiplatform. I don't think Nintendo would let them use their emulator in that case.
Holy shit, I didn't even realize that the process ran *that* deep. I knew it wouldn't be effortless to get these games ported over, but I appreciate having this added context given.
I hope that if we do get a collection, the switch version has some level of local multiplayer. I know online is likely more of a priority but it would be very nice to go back to a time where you could play these games in person with other people.
I've watched Capcom give a Street Fighter on WiiWare netplay and Square Enix give a KH rhythm game local multiplayer exclusive to Switch, so honestly? Feels like anything is possible on that front. I'd *love* to have a local play option considering I was the only person in my friend group that played the series.
Absolutely! People keep clamoring for this collection to happen, and I hope that it really is along the tracks for us. Even delayed, it'd still make for a great cap off to the series' anniversary.
What about "Rockman Taisen"? I mean, I think there might be a possibility of a PvP Megaman game. We might see all megamans in one game, battling each other? Maybe I'm just crazy but I would love to see a fighting game of megaman 😅😅
I have only played battle network one and that was when I was a kid I would love a collection for it with all of the exclusive chops and other things. I pray for a spin off collection not only does legends need one but we can't forget megaman and bass(snes) and x command mission not to mention the psp games they still have so many titles that fans want all in one place.
Right? Even though I'm not as big on most of the series(because I'm *godawful* at platformers☠️), these games should still all get their proper chance in the sun again.
Honestly, I just want both Battle Network and Starfrece games to have a Legacy Collection overall. To the point where I don't care how long I have to wait, just as long as there's no indication that it might be canceled or anything. Lord knows they deserve to be in the spotlight again, especially Starforce but... that's a rant for another time.
For sure! Ideally I'd like a joint collection like Zero/ZX, but considering the amount of main games both series have, a BN only collection first might just show that Capcom sees enough value in SF to sell the trilogy on its own.
I can see that side of it, but I'm personally just *way* too burned out from Capcom repeatedly shoving X Dive in my face to tolerate them settling for a mobile game to celebrate the anniversary.
Yeah, that's definitely the hope. It'd be really unfortunate if after all this time they drop the ball on releasing the definitive ways to play these games. Though considering their spotless track record on the other collections from my experience, I'm not *too* worried.
@@-ZRG- the Zero/ZX LC was a masterpiece. But X and Classic LC were just emulation. They might have more features than previous compilations but the fact that the current ones are emu bugs me. X Collection on PS2/GC are ports of the 6 games which means the games can take advantage of the more powerful hardware such as removing slowdown and sprite flicker, something the LCs brought back. Also they won't port Saturn MM8 or X4 which pisses me off
Ah, fair enough. In all fairness, I wasn't aware that was the case for Classic and X, but that's unfortunate.☠️ Out of curiosity though, what was the distinction for the Saturn versions of 8 and X4?
@@-ZRG- Saturn MM8 had a different song for Tengu Man's stage, two extra hidden bosses, more enemies throughout the levels, boss name text went from pink to yellow, and exclusive graphical effects on two levels. Also has a bonus mode to test voices, music, fmvs, etc. Saturn vers has much higher quality audio and songs have more instruments. Cutscenes are slightly blockier though. Saturn X4 is more subtle. Just has higher quality audio and a heat wave effect in Magma Dragoon's stage.
Damn, kinda wish *I* had that version of 8 growing up. Granted I was also even more shit at non-BN Mega Man games than I am now so I still likely wouldn't have gotten that far, but that sounds like a REALLY cool version of 8. Sounds like a similar issue as far as getting OSS for BN1 or Double Team DS for 5, and I wish they'd be willing to use the definitive versions for these collections.
The problem that I glean is that there is only one way that this collection will ever manifest, and it will be in an unacceptable state. They will use the modified Roms used in the Wii U virtual console, which means no multiplayer and unchanged localizations for BN4 and BN5. Likewise, no BN5 DS, and no restored Boktai content for BN6. And this is all touching the sharp edge of the biggest problem: The Japanese and international version of this collection will be two completely different products.
Been a part of the N1GP community for only a little while, and the introduction of Tango has helped the community grow (from what I’ve seen). An official online PVP would absolutely bolster the number of players (imo), and would definitely help when it comes to making it even more competitive
Absolutely, it'd be killer to have an official way to compete that's much more plug and play, for lack of a better term. And while I'm sure not running from an emulator also reintroduces the issue of needing to build up a proper Save File, I don't think it'd deter people any more than say...IV Breeding in competitive Pokémon. If they *really* wanted to go the extra mile, they could add a "competitive" save File that gives players access to everything to streamline the process.
All things told, as much as i'd like a collection of these games, i'll be pretty sad if they decide to separate them into two different collections like they did with the former two even though i'm pretty sure the internet will come up with plenty of excuses as to why it needs to be that way. These are all GBA games that iterate on each other instead of being entirely new games from sequel to sequel and i'd much rather just have a version select instead of doing the whole "now go out and buy the other one" thing now in 2022.
The only way I could see them releasing 2 Collections for BN is if they split them like the dual version releases were initially. Like, both have BN 1 and 2, and then one version has White, Red Sun, Colonel and Gregar. And the opposite for the other version. I hope they *don't* take this approach, but I can't completely rule it out either.☠️
Capcom themselves haven't hard confirmed anything, but given that they already hit the entire classic timeline beyond Legends (which is a bit hard to sell as a "collection" with just 2 games IMO), and their last collection in Zero/ZX hit the bases of GBA and DS emulation, it'd be logical to assume that BN would be next in line.
Too many party walls for me to get this game on the switch. I really loved the pvp, so if this game does not have it, I’m not even thinking of buying it.

Absolutely! People keep clamoring for this collection to happen, and I hope that it really is along the tracks for us. Even delayed, it'd still make for a great cap off to the series' anniversary.
@@-ZRG- boss the series can make a huge comeback with internet online gaming support
What about "Rockman Taisen"? I mean, I think there might be a possibility of a PvP Megaman game. We might see all megamans in one game, battling each other? Maybe I'm just crazy but I would love to see a fighting game of megaman 😅😅
There's definitely potential for a Megaman fighting game, and I'd *love* to see that come to pass.
Cough
Battle network needs to come back even a gatcha to collect the different cards from the split series would of been good
I can see that side of it, but I'm personally just *way* too burned out from Capcom repeatedly shoving X Dive in my face to tolerate them settling for a mobile game to celebrate the anniversary.
I need this game thanks for the news
I just hope if a BN/SF LC come out it'll be the definitive way to play these underground gems ie. no emulation.
In all fairness, I wasn't aware that was the case for Classic and X, but that's unfortunate.☠️
Out of curiosity though, what was the distinction for the Saturn versions of 8 and X4?
And this is all touching the sharp edge of the biggest problem:
The Japanese and international version of this collection will be two completely different products.
I wonder do the metarot switch games have online pvp.
Hey i subbed
Many thanks, mate! I appreciate it *greatly*~
Lmao this aged poorly
I've NEVER been more happy to have had a video be outdated in my *life* lmao
Wait, BN's getting a Legacy collection? Or is this theoretical?
Capcom themselves haven't hard confirmed anything, but given that they already hit the entire classic timeline beyond Legends (which is a bit hard to sell as a "collection" with just 2 games IMO), and their last collection in Zero/ZX hit the bases of GBA and DS emulation, it'd be logical to assume that BN would be next in line.
And guess what we’re getting
Too many party walls for me to get this game on the switch. I really loved the pvp, so if this game does not have it, I’m not even thinking of buying it.
i hope collection has pvp. suck starforce isnt part of collect. since it part of BN timeline
