In this travel vlog we visit a secret medieval castle in a small village in Somerset called Nunney. Best of all, it was free! Then we found out another castle was closed and ended up at Sham castle looking over the city of Bath. This was the worst castle we have been to and we do not recommend it but there are plenty of castles to see and things to do in England.

About Travel Beans:
Welcome to the official Travel Beans UA-cam channel! On this channel, you’ll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which you’ll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

Hey I live in nunney it's great there
Went on foot today from Wells to view Fenny Castle ("the last home of the fairies"). Couldn't find a way in but lovely flat walk and there were lots of interesting things to see on the way. Would recommend anyone who goes to Nunney to check out the pub which is excellent and has outdoor tables by the river (when conditions allow I imagine) and occasional folk sessions.
Well, I'm still trying to take this in. I'm American, born and raised. I live in California, now. While doing a little family history research, I discovered that one of my ancestors was born in Nunney, Somersetshire, England in 1822. Can y'all imagine my amazement when I found this video on UA-cam? Even "The Beans" didn't know about the place until their fingers found it on the map. I have no idea why my great-great-grandfather left there for New York nearly 170 years ago, but he did. I suppose poverty in England and the promise of something better in America had something to do with it. Pity, though. The village looks charming. But, it must not have been so much to him back then. Sigh. Life isn't always as it seems, is it? Still, I want to thank The Beans for this. It really touched my heart to see it. And, it made England a little dearer to me. JT
Hey JT. What an awesome comment. So crazy that these series of events led to a comment on our video. I hope you go and visit one day. Also the country is just called Somerset. Its not a problem but thought you might want to know :D Thanks for stopping by and good luck on your family history research.
Sham by name & SHAM by nature ! LOL When my wife & were in the UK last August, we were surprised to find a few towns WITHOUT said castles !!! Love your videos. They bring a smile to my dial & make my day !!
Thanks Robert! It makes us smile that we can make you smile! :D
Leeds Castle in County of Kent would be a nice excursion to see.
Wow! That castle looks awesome!
At 1:10 you can just see the end of the sign of "The George" inn. I stayed there two or three times in the late 70s/early 80s. The landlord at the time wouldn't let locals in, preferring to get his trade from tourists.
Nunney Castle is more of a fortified residence than a real castle.
To visit the castle you had to go and get the key to the gate from a village resident.
We went to Nunney last february a we loved it! We actually really like castles and other kind of ruins so UK is a perfect place to see this kind of places. The Sham Castle is a follie, not an actual castle! LOL Greetings from two traveling spaniards who live in Bath :)
We are from Phoenix, Arizona USA and we visited Nunney Castle in 2018. I absolutely loved it! The area was so peaceful and quant. We also visited Sham Castle and it was nice but not really much left.
Sham (the clues in the name) is what's known as a 'folly'
The purpose of folly's were to enliven privately owned landscapes
Popular with aristocrats in the 18th and 19th centuries they are really nothing more than giant garden ornaments although I think they're still kinda interesting in their own right
@@stephenchappell7512 thanks for the info
I love your videos! It is a little unnerving to watch you driving on the left side though. Did it once in Malaysia and was surprised how fast it became 'normal'. Only once did I eff up, and drive on the right side. My bad. England has a beautiful countryside, thank you for sharing.
My ancestors lived in nunney castle. Their graves with stone effigies are in the little church
I'm a Chinese and I really love your videos about England!!! I hope oneday I will go there!!!its really so beautiful!
Well done guys, English history is amazing, our buildings and constructions are some of the greatest in the world. Keep up your good work!!!
this is a treat for an ANGLOPHILE like me. Bloody awesome !

COOL,ALEX...WHAT YOU BEEN DOING ALL THESE YEARS!! YOU MISSED IT!! BEAUTIFUL HISTORY AN SCENERY IN ENGLAND...
Love a good castle. I used to live 15 mins from Leeds Castle in Kent. That's worth a visit.
Oooh nice! Someone else has mentioned Leeds Castle! Looks bloody lovely!
Seven Sisters please! It looks beautiful!
That last "Castle" is probably some wealthy landowners Folly from the 19th. C. As from the name folly is just that, a talking point over dinner, something to enhance the vista or not. Or is it a film set that has been kept in place, but looks too solid as most film sets are plywood and paint, like the exterior of "Nottingham Castle" in the 1950's - 60's Robin Hood TV series. This was built on the farm of the series producer/Screenwriter in Surrey and looked very authentic when viewed from the adjacent Bridleway.
Beans Buns - filled with Castles! Oh yes, they deliver.
Thanks for another great vlog!
Thanks so much! PS as star wars fans, we both love your username :)
@@TravelBeans Ha! Thank you. I like beans
FYI guys......in the United States we have Castles too.....and their White.

Sean
P.S. Today, April 1, is my birthday... I have treated myself to another Bean Fest!
Happy Birthday Sean! So glad you enjoyed it! We hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Love Nunney we live 30 miles away from here. It’s our local! We come every other week. Oliver Cromwell knocked it down. Not sure about the music though.
How about Bodiam Castle and the Kent and East Sussex Railway? They're right next to each other and Tenterden at the other end of the railway is a very pretty little town.
We stayed in the pub opposite the castle, it was good :)
There is an oter sanctuary about 20 minutes drive from where you were in Derbyshire you could have seen many if the things. Castles don't really do it for me once you have seen one castle you have seen them all. Check out Lakewood in uckfield it will be right up your street and its free
ummm what?! I NEED to go there! Also, Lakewood looks AWESOME! Thanks Chris! 👍
Just fact checked and it turns out the the otter sanctuary closed late 2017 however all the otters have been re homed in the new forest wildlife centre! www.newforestwildlifepark.co.uk/
Visit Bodiam Castle in East Sussex (the most instagrammable moated castle in the whole of England) and set in truly beautiful
countryside. I may be slightly biased here but hey-ho and lackaday...…………………………………...the old man by the sea.
We went to Bodiam castle before we started the channel about 5 years ago. We did a ghost walk thing there at night, it was fantastic. I would love to go and see it in the day though.
Hey Beans I guess Arundel Castle has to be on your list and the Black Rabbit pub is just up from it by the river Arun. Get your Cider on😃
Yes I have never been there and I think we will go there in the next few days :)
I'm liking this Castle theme. More, pls. In SE England: how about King Arthur's ruins. Tara. Anything reputed to be from that period.
They are in the S.W.
Check out our previous videos.. we visited Glastonbury Abbey - home to King Arthur's grave. But yes, we will definitely be visiting some more places in the SE!
Hey guys, when you will visit Ludlow? Waiting for video, cheers!
Ludlow castle does look impressive!!
I will be sleeping in a castle in May for one night. I can't wait
Is that at St Briavels castle?
@@TravelBeans unfortunately not. It will be in Ireland. My brother is paying this trip we are going to be in london for 4 days Ireland for 4 days and Scotland.
Is Michael Palin at the top of that castle shaking his Naughty Bits!?
I fart in your general direction! 😂
You should visit Leeds castle! I live around the corner from it, you should do a sub meet up 😜
Bournemouth pleaseeeeeee
Beans your camera is too wobbly.. Its making me dizzy. Must be the lens or something.
We are coming to Southampton on a cruise. Will have the day only. Thinking about hiring a car. Where should we go?
Hey, you would only be 50 mins away from Stonehenge, that and New Forest would be an easy day trip.
I can't see the new video, it is blocked for my country?
Thanks, we are on it. It will be out soon.
Apparently, I can't watch the new video that you just posted because it contains content from WMG, which has blocked it in my country (USA) on copyright grounds! I have it on the UA-cam Smart TV app, only to have that message appear on it, while it's not even shown on my computer.
Thanks, we are on it. It will be out soon.
Thanks, I am watching it right now!
😯
What is the name of the song you used at the beginning?
heart on the run - park lane feat. vincent vega 👍
Do either one of you live in a castle? Don't most English people live in castles?
Yep. We all personally know the Queen too 😆
You want castles? Go to Wales
