Okay, so years ago, when I was 12-13, I had four premolar extractions due to severe overcrowding and overbite. I also wore braces for a year or two. Now, years later (I'm 17), I'm rethinking it. I think the extractions might have narrowed my dental arch, but I'm not entirely sure. I now wish I had kept those teeth. My bite is generally aligned, but there's a gap between one of my teeth, specifically on the left bottom jaw. Do you think I'm just being crazy, or is there something really going on? I do think my smile looks good from the front and even the side.
Thanks for the question! When we extract teeth, it can effect your Sagital plane. So, when they are closing spaces less then ideally, they could make your profile flat, face sunken. On the other hand, Narrow palate is the transverse plane problem! There is no reason teeth extractions would be the cause of narrow palate. It is more likely that it is due to some factors or a combination of , genetics, mouth breathing, incorrect swallowing pattern etc. As for the gaps, it's is probably a relapse. Even without premolars, we can still widen your smile and close the gaps by moving teeth forward for the aesthetic reasons :) P.S I am not saying extractions was the optimal therapy for you, i have no idea :) But, i wouldn't blame ex's on the narrow palate, and if you have gaps or aesthetic problems, you can get braces or aligners again regardless of extractions :)
@@drstojanovicvladan Thank you for the information, Indeed i am not a Dentist, So i don't know the specific names of everything, I meant that the width of the left and right side of the teeth, aswell as the Back to front, narrowed basically, that was my concern, So i suppose i'm worried about the sagital plane, I hope that's not become a problem over time.
@@GrizzlyGamingUA-cam Shouldn't be a problem either. You are still young , so in a few years you will see your wisdom teeth come out if your "sagital plane" is "short", there will be room for them and you wont have to have extractions :) For the bite, you can check bite (in sagital) , type in google Class I occlusion and open images. You should have your upper canines between your lower canines and premolars. (if the space closure was done right ofc)
@@drstojanovicvladan That's reassuring, I assumed my teeth we're all not developing correctly, Due to all of the extractions, i'm still gonna visit a dentist to be sure
This man is spitting facts. I also got extracted my teeths 2 upper teeths. And I regreted it later. Many doctors told me that there was no need of extraction. And now I need to extract another 2 lower teeths (All the doctors saying this) Else They say implants is only the option. Can you suggest which decision would be better (Braces vs Implants) so that I don't regret again.
Ugh thats an impossible advice to give without a proper analysis :( Lets try like this. If you are happy with you upper arch that had teeth extracted, then extracting lower teeth would make sense if they are crowded ofc. You would let them fit your lower arch to the upper one. If upper extractions were a wrong plan, then you would open up spaces for implants and basically reverse the previous treatment.
@@drstojanovicvladan Thanks for advice. My teeths were not that crowded. Let it be. Whatever happened is happened. The real situation is, I personally want my teeths to look good. and for this, braces is the only option. But I am worried about 3 things : 1) Will I have the natural bite or not? (As there will be movement of teeths) 2) If Yes, What if the teeths starts to move again as before, After the treatment? (I know about retainers, I am ready to use it. But how long) (What are the chances of happening this?) 3) Will it impact my face structure after some time, like Jaw line (I have a nice jawline) So you got my point! I don't want any negative impacts if I go with braces. After considering these points suggest me what to choose (Braces or Implants) Thank you!
@@samnayakawadi 1) Goal of every extraction therapy is to either end up in the perfect occlusion, or to maintain the correct occlusion that existed at the start. So asuming orthodontist does his job, that should be ok. 2) Retainers are a must, since teeth move even without ortho therapy. So as long as you want teeth to stay as they were at the end of treatment you should have retainers and wear them at least a few nights a week. 3) If you have a nice jaw line, your orthodontist can use mechanics to close spaces after extraction so that it doesn't change your face. As for advice...i still can't give any definitive advice over text :(

Hi doc, to make my problems easier to understand I’ll just make like 4 points 1: Should I consider MSE over braces? My big concern is facial aesthetics as well as ease of breathing in one of my nostrils. I notice my left nostril is able to gain more airflow compared to the right nostrils when i cover one or the other. 2: Again with MSE over braces, I have a slight overjet of the upper and lower incisors… as well as a super superrr slight crookedness in one of my lower central incisors and a slight crossbite. Will MSE remedy the issue? 3: I’ve heard with MSE some people gain balloon face as of course the lower jaw isn’t expanded equally with the upper. How would I remedy that if I chose MSE? 4: My wisdom teeth are attempting to come in and are most likely going to be impacted. Should I get them extracted of could expansion of both my upper and lower jaws potentially allow them to grow in better? I know somebody in this comment section asked about wisdom teeth extraction but I’m still very skeptical. I am concerned about functionality of course but I am very concerned about aesthetics overall.
Hello sir , I've a 5mm overjet and I've extracted 2 of my premolars from upper jaw and for lower jaw the doctor did some trimming in the teeth, I've got the braces , will it ruin my face and my jawline and will it cause problems like in breathing and tongue space, please reply 😢

Hello doctor. I am worried. I got extracted my premolars after getting braces because my dentist told me it was the best option to move backwards my teeth since i hated how prominent my mouth looked. Also, the upper front teeth were not straight and stood out so everytime i smiled i looked like this one emoji 🤓. Now i am scared becase of all of the comments about tooth extraction. What can i expect? Was this the best option if i wanted my mouth to stand out less and look a little bit more flat?
That sounds like the standard treatment option. When you have front teeth sticking out, in addition to which you already have crowding in front...you HAVE to create space somehow to retract those teeth back. While there are some other options, in general, when you have combination of both of those factors you have to extract something :/ If it wasn't Premolars, it would have been surgery and extraction of wisdom teeth :(
Hello sir, i have overjet/overbite, i was confuse because what is see here in youtube about overbite is removing premolars but why my dentist advice me to remove wisdom teeth in upper before getting braces on?
When you have overjet and overbite, one of the treatment options is to distalize the teeth , move them further back, in order to do that, your orthodontist might plan to extract 8s, or 7s.
I have bimaxillary protrusion with impacted wisdom tooth my chin is recessed my dentist suggested ipr or extraction of premolars
Thank you for the useful information! 🤓
