Thank you so much for this; it really covers a number of aspects of leaving for an extended time period that people might not have considered. I really appreciated your honesty about your headspace too. As someone who's been dreaming of the trail since the mid-90s, I am so excited for you finally taking the last steps and being on your way. Congrats!!
I'm excited for you! On the head space front: I knew at some point during my journey, I would have an "oh crap, what have I done" moment. What I didn't expect is that it would happen on day 3. I'm sure it had something to do with sleep deprivation, but it's important to know that these moments can come, but they don't last. Good luck!
Very inspiring and know you have alot of support throughout your journey . I wish you the best of what is to come for your passion and goals. God Bless You every step of the way.
You got this!!! You’re strong and brave!!! ❤❤❤❤ it’s ok to be in the headspace, part of the journey? And it’s good that you’re talking about it! Not many people do!
Terrific video, you present some important points to consider before committing/embarking. It is interesting to me when I hear everyone’s various reasons for taking on the challenge and experience of living on the trail. While the reasoning is always subjective, the motivators are not; your motivation is affected in part by your empathetic experience observing the boy on his way to radiology. Mine was an overwhelming instinct to reset by breaking free from the lifestyle habits I developed over 12+ years of building my home and business property by hand and operating the business before I sold it all. It is truly amazing to me how these different life experiences can steer us to the same place. I drove 7k miles to get from AK to GA, seeing friends and family along the way. This morning I am contemplating checking out of Amicalola Falls Lodge and getting on the Approach Trail to Springer Mountain. Your video did me some good this morning. Thanks for sharing. Hope to run into you out there and say hello.
@@BlazedNFused great observations and I hope to run into you. Leaving this morning for Amicolola - should be there Thursday/Friday. See you up there trail. Can’t wait to just “breathe”.
@ if you’re staying at the lodge be sure to say hello to Heather, trail name Feather, their reservations person who spends considerable time at the front desk. An avid local hiker, she is an absolute lovely lady and walking encyclopedia on gear, its properties and weights. Each step of my journey has presented me with a person, either known or new, who made the trip worth taking by themselves alone. She is such a soul. Travel well, and see you out there!
Woohoo! Not long now and you’ll be on the road 😊 I was wondering about e-sim as well. Usually if I go to the US it's just a few days to a week, so I don't bother, and I've never been dinged for roaming. But I figure 6 months is a bit of a stretch 😂 All good things to keep in mind. I'm hoping to be able to hike the AT in '28 after I retire. Fingers crossed 🤞 😊 Safe travels, and happy trails 🍻
You probably already did this but I leave copies of all my important documents with a trusted friend. So copy of my insurance cards, passport, bank cards, etc. That way if I lose them on trail, my friend has all the numbers for who to contact. I also carry a in case of emergency card on me. If something (God forbid) happens to me while on trail, they know who to contact, my blood type, allergies etc. I'm starting the first week of March and have all the same jitters! Rooting for both of us!
I was going to ask you about the 6 month timeframe. Did you have to do anything with the American government for extending your stay? Or are they ok with it, it's just the provincial health? I didn't know about that part, and the bank reminder was good too. Thank you for the information!
@@myjourneytosanity I applied in January of 2024 and tried to get a one year travel visa but the first interview I could get was this coming November - so I’m trying me best to do it in the 180 days. 🤷♀️. If I need longer I will ask on the US side so wanted to have my home stuff covered if they said ok.
