I think the moral of the episode got mixed up when writing this one. It was kinda set up to have 2 potential lessons, but what really came out of it was let Pinkie be annoying or else she'll get depressed with life.

Is it just me, or did Hasbro made a subtle reference/nod to the Cupcakes fanfic by having Rainbow Dash make cupcakes with Pinkie Pie? ._. 🤔

It's a pretty good episode, nice to see that Pinkie is trying her best to fit in the Yak customs by learning how to play on a sax. Even though her playing was a pain to the ear I still have to acknowledge the fact that practice makes someone a master. What I didn't accept and disliked is that Pinkie were pretty much purposely trying to mess around with the mane 6 like staying all night at Fluttershy's cottage and not even letting her getting a shut eye is just wrong. If I were Fluttershy I would've just sent the bear to scare Pinkie away. That was a low blow from Pinkie. I also don't really like the fact that how her friends weren't much supportive towards her practicing. They pretty much just told her that she plays god awful and she should just stop. That's not the way how you should support your friend. I get it Pinkie pretty much annoyed them a lot but still, they could've told her to go somewhere private where she doesn't bother anyone and practice there. And for some extra boost in confidence they should've also said that they will be giving some motivation and cheering too. That's how true friends would've done it, not by telling her that you suck. I also loved the fact that this episode brought back Pinkamena. I really missed seeing her, so yeah kudos for the episode for that. Overall the episode was really good, I enjoyed it. It wasn't a very special episode but it had it's fun moments.

Anyway, following episodes are going to be great, probably the best ones in the season. Can't wait for people to see them.

The ending ruined that episode for me. The moral of 'forgiving the unskillfulness' works for drawings and other types of art but it doesn't work with loud musical instruments. Those are just too disruptive when played badly in public, such disturbance of peace of others can get you in real trouble. If this episode was about any other art obsession it would have made much more sense.

Иван Сомкин Why should music be any different? Just because you don’t have some unnatural god given gift doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pursue it. Like playing the violin, it’s loud but of course it’s not gonna sound good if it’s you’re first time picking it up. But how will you ever get better if you’re afraid of it sounding bad. A violin is just a naturally loud instrument. If you have a kid and they wanna learn how to play it are you just gonna say no and deprive them of that because you don’t wanna hear their bad playing? I do admit, Pinkie Pie was annoying in this episode: if they toned her down and she was only doing it in her on home, the effect of the moral would easily be fixed. But draw from this shouldn’t be “it’s okay to be bad at things as long as it’s not musical”. That just scares off anyone from actually wanting to get into music.

DW It was not about a beginner trying to get better, the whole point was that Pinkie couldn't possibly get better but she liked it this way so it's okay. To be honest, this moral does not make any sense. People don't criticize beginners because most begginers would not be proud of being stuck in one place and would actually try to find ways to become better. But if you are constantly bad at playing and you are genuinly proud of your bad playing, people around you are not gonna like it for obvious reasons. I know a guy who says he likes drums but all he actually wants to do is to smash everything as fast as possible without consideration for rythm or tempo (not even blast beats, just pure chaos). That's basically what this episode is standing for: loud chaotic drummers (most likely children) in your neighborhood smashing everything for hours like there is no tomorrow, not people who actually want to improve and want others to enjoy their music.
      That is problematic.
P.S. No one would criticize you for playing a violin badly if you were actually trying to play a piece properly. But if you were just playing random notes as fast as possible without respect for the genre or technique then people would not appreciate it. Yak musician accepting such behavior from Pinkie is just unnatural, to our world and to MLP world.
P.S.S. If you play an electronic instrument with headphones on then you can do whatever you want of course.

The moral is do what you want as long as it makes you happy and you arent hurting anyone. Stop complaining or stop watching like jeez

Geode I fully adore this show and it's direction but i don't have to ignore the bad because of it. The moral doesn't work because Pinkie still hurts everyone (except for yaks maybe) by continuing to play badly (so the problem of the episode was not fixed by the solution). It's just not a pleasant experience to watch the plot writing of your favourite show obviously going wrong. The staff are talented people who could have done better.

I for one, had fun with this episode. I can understand why it was kinda hard for Twilight and company to tell Pinkie the truth about her yovidaphone playing, I’d feel the same if I knew what would follow later on(Pinkamena). Other than myself, you pointed out the “Pinkamena effect” that Pinkie was emitting throughout the episode(not only looking like herself with straight hair but with a grayish coloring as if she was discorded/mean Pinkie).

I agree, something was wrong with this episode. It felt like the conflict was set up well enough, but the way the other characters handled it was completely wrong at every turn. I think your "What's happening?" face at the ending sums it up pretty well.

  • @mouseonthestreets8675

The idea for this story was good but the execution was just so weak. If they just toned down everything and didn’t make it so dramatic the moral could’ve been good. I would’ve loved to see the idea of “natural talent” and the belief that just because you’re not automatically good at something doesn’t mean you won’t get better and that you don’t have to be a master at something to enjoy it, being tackled in the show. Especially sense ponies have cutie marks and every pony is expected to be extremely talented at something destined from birth. And that’s just not how it works in real life. You like doing the things you do because you want to do them and that’s what makes. You better. Not because you were naturally good at it so you just ran with it. At least with stuff you’re actually passionate about. This episode could’ve shined a realistic light on the phycology of ponies. But sadly, they handled this topic horribly wrong. It’s honestly one of the worst episodes of the show. I would’ve preferred if you skipped this episode and went straight on the next one because I actually liked that episode.

Thankfully, episodes following this are quite a lot better compared to this. I mean, the only good thing I think in this episode was the comedy, and the music by the expert player.

The only problem I have this episode was just *how* she was annoying everyone with the instrument. None of them made sense except for Rainbow Dash's case because people make noises to cheer at sports events, but in every other scenario it was almost like she was written almost like villain. Fluttershy and Rarity's were the absolute worse. I still don't understand Fluttershy's case when Pinkie pie has shown that she's aware of Fluttershy's sensitivity. She wouldn't even let Rainbow Dash prank her, but there she is... At _night._ Playing a horn just a few yards behind Rarity at work just makes me ask... *_why?_* What led up to the decisions behind these two disasters?
Other than that, it was really funny seeing Maud & Pinkamena, and I appreciate what continuity they *did* carry over. Pinkie Pie has been shown to be really good with instruments in the past so it's understandable that not being good at one would bother her so much. She's had episodes where her talent with music was the wrap-up. And in the end, we got to the destination we needed to get some clarity on the instrument.
Ditching all her stuff is kinda natural when she's broken like that. There won't be any parties with Pinkamena around. At least any sane ones lol

My own personal feelings on this episode: Continuity-wise, It's not good, not even close. But it did have a lot of entertaining moments sprinkled throughout, so it's still fun to react to (or watch others react to).

Bon Bon Well if you say so.
I don't know if I'm missing something, I'm to sleepy to notice 😪 I hope is understandable and any questions, be free to ask but plz don't be rude (I'm a little like the Fluttershy of the early seasons >.

  • @bonbonpony
    @bonbonpony 6 років тому +1

Yeah, to me this episode was really terrible too. I would say it even beats the first Yaks episode at being crappy, so I would say that to me it's the worst episode in the series so far :q And I'm usually not so fast in hating episodes, I liked "Mare Do Well", "Princess Spike", "Spike At Your Service" and several other episodes that many people considered bad, which only shows how bad it must be :q But I couldn't put my finger on it to explain to myself WHY it is so bad. I felt that way from the very beginning, as soon as I heard the sound of that instrument for the first time, announcing the apocalypse that will come :P And when I thought that there's nothing that could render this episode any more unbearable than this cacophony, it got worse with characterization and morals ;\ That's why I like your afterthoughts, because it helped me to understand why I felt so bad about this episode.
Oh, and you don't need to feel bad about your critique. That's what I came here for - your honest opinion on the episode and genuine emotions, even if they're bad ones. And not just because I agree with you that the episode was bad - if I disagreed with you, I would still respect your opinion, because it would allow me to see things from different angles than mine.
