Ah yes, Ninjago. Truly a fantastic show that I hold dearly which, against all odds, *is still making new seasons over 11 years later.* That is insane because at first glance, there's no good reason who a Lego show should still be going after 3 let alone 11 years!
But honestly, the reason why Ninjago is still going strong is because it's genuinely one of the best animated shows of all time. These first 2-ish seasons aren't the best example of what Ninjago has to offer and only those blinded by nostalgia say they are peak Ninjago. The earlier seasons were pretty standard action-adventure cartoons, not bad by any means, but not great. But even in the earlier seasons you can see shades of greatness. Every now and then, they produced something really emotional but it was overshadowed by the cartoony, toy selling nature of the show.
But around seasons 3-4, Ninjago really came into it's own. The writing and plots became tighter and the emotions, action, intensity, and even animation all significant improved. Ninjago began to to tell more complex, deep, long form stories. At this point, each season became a perfectly serialized arc which felt more like a 3 hour movie than a tv show. This was also the point where Ninjago began to take greater risks. I'm talking about killing off main characters to deliver some seriously emotional moments that deserve to be recognized alongside the greatest moments the history of tv animation.
And all the while, Ninjago has been building this crazy history and lore that slowly accumulated over every season. That lore combined with fantastic music, progressively better animation, solid character work, and fantastic writing really solidified Ninjago as a quality animated show.
This quality continued into season 8 where Ninjago *dialed it up to 11.* That's when Ninjago went from good to *phenomenal.* I won't spoil anything because it's the type of season you have to see blind, but anyone who watches season 8 legitimately cannot believe that it was created by Lego. That season went so intense and so hard, it's has everything! I'm talking terrorism, cults, demonic rituals, seduction, betrayal, and emotional manipulation. You think I'm joking but I'm not, everything I just talked about was in season 8 and I don't know if Ninjago will ever be that hardcore again!
Ninjago is a strange series. It's lasted 11 years and that meant that it had the rare opportunity to grow up alongside its audience. The writers realized pretty early on that to keep their audience engaged and challenged that they had to up the intensity of each season. That's why you see a jump in intensity in season 4 and another in season 8. And now, the writers face the challenge and privilege of having both new fans and old fans watch there show, kid just discovering Ninjago for the first time along with the original fans who are now late teens and young adults.
When people say that they love Ninjago, they are either people who haven't seen the show in years and love the older seasons for nostalgia, or they are modern fans who stuck with the show over the last 10 years. And the reason fans like me stuck with it is because Ninjago really did do something great in these later season. They pushed the boundaries and told stories no other animated shows dared to tell. These stores are rife with intense emotion, memorable character, and engaging plots and stay in our minds because they are genuinely good. It's something that I'm grateful for because out of all things to survive my childhood, Ninjago is not the one I would have expected. But I am elated to have been proven wrong.
So if you ever want to see what makes Ninjago so good, I recommend giving season 4 or season 8 a shot. These are great entry or even reentry pionts and this goes out to both the creators of this channel or anyone else who want to give Ninjago a shot. Because if you see one of those recommended seasons with an open mind, I promise that you'll see what all the fuss is about and realize why, for some reason, this show about color coded plastic Ninja is still going strong and still captivating it's viewers 11 years later.

Same here, it low-key hurts knowing there’s so much more to the series that they’re missing here.
Look I love Ninjago been a fan since the pilots but I'm gonna be honest Story-wise it fell off after season 9. When season 8 dropped it was okay the story was a little on the weaker side and it kinda felt boring but it was still compelling, season 9 was more entertaining than season 8 easily, so much things going on and with this it felt like Ninjago was back. But once the season where the army of Oni came back to Ninjago ended its like they didn't have an idea of where to take the story.
@@KON853 I actually really enjoyed season 8, I thought the Harumi twist was really well done. Because I genuinely wasn’t expecting it. I also really liked the intro scene where at the beginning you thought the thief’s were the ninja and then Lloyd comes out and is like nope. But I’ll admit I didn’t like the whole Garmadon thing and making him evil because I missed the old Garmadon. I also really enjoyed season 9. I agree season 10 wasn’t the best, it just felt so rushed and the Cole twist wasn’t well done at all. Like they could have done so much more. The first half of season 11 wasn’t great either. It had a rough start. But the second half I thought was great and I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed seasons 12 through 15. Ninjago is always a fun time to me.

@@KON853 I actually don’t mind the changes. Personally I think Lloyd and Nya look better than before. I also really like Lloyds voice change. Cole and Zane didn’t really change much. I do miss Zane’s old design but I can deal with the new one like it’s not a dramatic change. Kai and Jay on the other hand, I can’t stand it. Jay looks younger than before, I don’t mind the hair, but the freckles like whattt. Also they removed his little eyebrow slit. Kai is just ruineddd. The hair, the bandaid on his face. Omg I can’t stand to look at him. The old design was wayyy better.

Weird how guys didn’t start with the pilot episodes with the Skeleton army. That’s basically the origin story of the whole series. With it introducing the main characters and Garmadon and all. I guess it’s due to the season with the Snakes being considered the start of the TV series proper, and most people not usually counting episodes not properly part of the seasonal run, like pilot episodes.
The pilots also aren’t really legitimately available anywhere anymore except on DVD… at least in the US. And to my knowledge.

@@iswiftyfox8997 I can get some of the stigma with not watching pilots first, as there are instances of them being non-canon. They are usually made to show off the main gist of the potential series. But there are a few instances where that isn’t the case.
Guys, Ninjago was my childhood.
And even looking back at it now, there is NO REASON a LEGO show made to sell toys needs to have this good of quality! There's NO REASON why it should be this memorable. There's NO REASON Why it should be emotional as all heck. There's NO REASON why it should shock you. There's NO REASON why it should have a cast of characters so complex and yet so loveable!! BUT THEY DID IT ALL ANYWAY.
PLEASE do more of this! And AT LEAST get to Episode 7 of this season, it is STILL one of my favorite episodes of the entire franchise!

I wish they would confirm the ages of the characters tbh. All we can do is assume they're teenagers in the beginning of the show, but I'm like 90% sure they're all adults in the later seasons. We can assume that Nya and Lloyd are most likely the youngest in the group. And since Jay asked for Nya's hand in marriage in like season ten, they have to be in their early to mid 20's at minimum. Lloyd is most likely near the age of 18, but they never confirmed how much he aged when he was when he was hit with the growth gas.
I choose to believe this is canon because they won't specify the age range :/

I figured that cole being the oldest was 19 or twenty at the start, then kai is 18, jay is 17, nya is 16 and lloyd is 15. Zane is like 40.
It's best if you don't think about their ages or the timeline, it just doesn't really make sense, like the first 7 seasons all most likely take place the same year, nothing suggests that time is passing, they're all ''grown up teenagers'' according to season 9, they aren't older than 19 unfortunately, also the legal system irl and in Ninjago isn't the same, the ninja were somehow able to work as teachers in season 3 despite being teenagers

I'm actually glad their ages are never specified, I think that should be open to interpretation by the audience. Revealing their age wouldn't really add anything to the show. In fact, it could actually make things more complicated and confusing because it might create a timeline that doesn't make sense. Or it might lead to uncomfortable implication of teenage characters being in relationships with adults (like with Nya and Nadakhan).
I think it's best to have the ages of the characters stay ambiguous, that way they there is no fear of any laws being broken (like age of content laws) of the implication that teens are being forced into really intense situations. Viewers should simply be able to decide for themselves what age the Ninja are based on what the Ninja do in the show proper.
And as another comment said, if you add in definitive ages, that means the Ninja will get older and there is only so many adventures you can do before they get old. Not giving them ages just avoids the problem.

Honestly, I’m with you regarding Nya! I had a major crush on her as a kid. She’s in her late teens and is two years younger than Kai, but no specified ages
A lot of Ninjago fans felt a certain way about Nya and honestly, it's a discussion the fanbase isn't ready to have yet!
But I mean it makes sense when you think about it. Kids get attached to figures or characters that enter their lives early and stay with them across a long period of time. They have no standards then and will develop their standards (for beauty, crushes, personality, etc) based on what they are exposed to. So when Nya was one of the only female characters in a show targeted at little boys and was presented as, how should I put this, an object of desire by the show itself (multiple characters have crushes on her) she became the standard for those little boys.
And as those boys grew up, Nya stuck around so they stayed attached to her. That's why a lot of the late teens and earlier 20 year olds that make up the core adult fanbase feel that way about her now, because she made an impression on them as kids, was a constant as they developed and grew up, and accordingly became their standard.
And I'm using Nya as an example here but what I'm saying could be applied to any fictional character. You wanna know why so many 20 year olds have crushes on goth characters? It's because a lot of them were exposed to goth cartoon characters in the 2000's when they were growing up. The same can be said of furries, it's because those were exposed to these types of characters in media as kids.
And to be clear, I'm not encouraging or endorsing any of these crushes on fictional characters. I'm just observing that it does happens and providing an explanation for why. Because it's happening all right, as much as some of us might wish it wasn't.

I tried to explain to my friends as a kid that “Ninjago” was “Ninja go”, but they didn’t believe me. WELL, WHO’S LAUGHING NOW!?
Just so you know: Ninjago was doing the multiverse thing before the MCU.
I remember that one episode they mentiones Clutch Powers, who is from a direct to DVD Lego movie of a dude who was kind of like an adventurer who had to learn to work with a team and together they had to save a medieval fantasy planet from a wizard, and I think they wanted to do other 2 movies to capture other 2 bad guys who escaped from an interplantary maximum security prison, but it never happened!
Apparently he was a reccuring character, but I didn't see all the Ninjago episodes.
And even in later seasons there are other realms, including Lego Chima!
In other news, the Pilot is actually important, because it explains how the characters became ninjas and it will be referenced later.
Also, I think the Green Ninja is like the Avatar because green is usually the color of life and I think qi... at leats that's what i got with Kung Fu Pand 3 (I know it was also gold, but my point stands still because you know)

The first 2 seasons are exactly as juvenile as any shows would be in the 2000s. As time goes on, the show really comes into its own. I'm sure you've seen many fans in the comment section pointing out that season 8 especially delivered, so I highly implore you guys to keep up with the watch! It's absolutely worth it!
By the way, seasons 1-10 are done by Wil Film Aps, while seasons 11-now are done by Wildbrain. The Wildbrain era has elevated Ninjago to new heights, boasting a more comprehensive writing structure with callbacks to older seasons, and even more bombastic animation and fight choreography. As an animation nerd, it's an experience to see how much the quality of the production has grown over the years, from character models and facial animation to lighting, background staging, and sound design. I'm looking forward to so much more from you guys :D

Funny enough, there’s a show called LEGO: Monkey Kid, which has LEGO fight scenes that are actually good. It’s from the same studio that did Glitch Techs and Rise of the TMNT.
Also, the later ninjago seasons have some of the most fluid fight scenes that I’ve seen

WHy does everyone just skip the Pilot season? No hate, but I thought it was common knowledge that it exists and that you are supposed to watch it before Season 1. it gives you context for the Ninja, the Golden Weapons show and who lord garmadon actually is.

Yo, answering this two years late. Depending where they watched it, it might just not show up. I watch Ninjago on Netflix and they don’t have the pilots registered under the same series. So when new people go and watch it they see Rise of the Snakes first

These first episodes to a certain audience, I could see on why you wouldn't enjoy it, but continue watching, it later genuinely gives amazing animation, awesome action, amazing stories, lovable characters, and phenomenal music!! I remember building every 'pilot episode' set I could get my hands on. I would start martial arts a little after they were released, and am now a second-degree black belt. I've stayed with it through the highs of Rebooted and Possession, and the lows of Day of the Departed and Hunted, all the way to Dragons Rising.

Watch Lego Monkie Kid! It’s based off of the “Journey to the West” Story. It’s really cool, has amazing animation, better fight scenes than ninjago and I want to see what nicknames you give certain characters also reactions to the hotter characters like Spider Queen or Princess Iron Fan.
Better fight scenes than Ninjago? I wouldn't say that, Ninjago has some of the best 3D fight scenes in all of tv animation.
But in general, I don't think you can compare MK's 2D action with Ninjago's 3D action, they are entirely different mediums.

Omg dude I grew up watching this. Im pretty sure I watched every episode. I drew pictures and owned Cole's and Zane's vechical as well. Idk what happened to those sets but it holds a special place in my heart. Also yeah tmnt never interested me. It was only ninjago for me
