Heck of a free heli ride! No lie, watched it the 2nd time around with this soundtrack youtubedoubler.com/hh3v. Make sure to submit your footage to GoPro.com/Awards and kudos to the Kicking Horse Rescue Team. #GoPro #BeAHERO
+Itz Frenzy SHHHHH don't tell contour that.. You might be able to score some stuff from them! But in all honesty Gopro is my fav company by far.. Best customer service I've ever delt with by far.. Absolutely love them
This is insane (insanely awesome)! I thought rescues on lifts were normally done by rappelling people straight down to the ground, this is obviously WAY cooler.
+WestcoastWheelman Yup I work up a Kicking Horse. They've been rehearsing rappelling straight down all throughout the summer but there are some REALLY high up spots on that chairlift and the heli evac was the better option I suppose
Wow, that was so sick. Watched it years ago already. Ich was an exchange student that year in Golden and had just left the mountain before the gondola stopped working. Otherwise I would have been rescued too. Such a bummer. Most of the guys were actually rescued by rope, but that gondola was too high up the ground and in a rough terrain. You were lucky to be in the exact spot and the hours of waiting were well worth it. Cheers
I'm sure you froze your butts there for a bit, but that must have been such a great ride! Glad everyone made it back to safety with a story you'll be telling for a long time.
Yes, that view....all those runs! Would love to thrash that bowl right there....Oh man...the Rocky Tops view in the horizon....endless Mountaineering....Canadian Rockies....Wild!
Why was the Gondola down? Too big of cross winds? We got stuck at the top of Big White (backside) chair for 1.5 hours in -20 (-32 w/wind). So cold and only 30' from getting off. Worse was getting off at 5:45 in December. It was pitch black. They told us to make our way to the bottom of the hill (without lights) to catch the next chairlift (that they started up 30 minutes after we got there) to the front side. Finally got to the bottom of the frontside at 7:30. Thankfully the frontside was lit. Got free pass, but not Heli ride.
Kodi, now that you are a youtube star, you should put up some videos about your many exploits as a Canadian mountaineer. and btw, way to go Dad, for staying so calm!
Wow. Just wow. Would skiing ever be a thrill again after that ride? Is there a resort anywhere with a "hang from a helicopter on a skiny rope over steep snowy mountains" ride? Wow.
Nuts... They should have had ski patrol under the gondola, lowered them out of the gondola (or repelled), and tossed their board or skis out. Then they could ski down. Instead they took them to the top of the mountain in a more risky and costly trip, and they STILL have to get down the mountain without a board/ skis. The gondola is broken, so I guess they tracked them down in a cat? If you are flying them, why not to the bottom? Who is running this rescue...
So, were there two gondola passengers on that rescue ride? Was the one on camera a kid? Was the helicopter returning to the gondola to pick up someone else? How many were rescued that day? Did the resort pay for the drinks after the helicopter rescue?
Lucky ! Beats rapping down the Goats Eye chair for sure ! Too bad they didn't drop you off at the top of Terminator 1 or Terminator 2 with your gear - you would've saved yourself going up the boot pack trail ! Beggars aren't choosers I guess ... ;-)
I think you might be able to drop that far and not break anything, but I can only speak qualitatively by comparing the leg-breaking distance of solid ground to this situation. You were right not to jump though.
+Scotty Catman Snow can be as hard as the ground dude. When it gets warm it melts and then freezes at night creating a layer of ice. Plus that snow under them looks groomed. Probably would have at the very least broken a leg from jumping.
Pride Lion You think that thin-ass layer of ice is going to do a whole lot? It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop. If you hit the ice, it's just going to break right through. Might even be better to have the ice if the snow is not that thick. It's VERY high up... really, Madam Smellypits ? No shit. You can jump off a 170 foot ledge into water and not be injured. Your comment is useless. Same goes for you ***** . Yes, they *could* die if they decide to try going head first. I'm assuming they're a little smarter than that.
+Bryon Lape Normally they rappel down off the gondola, but there are some sections that are just too high for that to be safe. The helicopter is only used in extreme situations like that.
+Adam Sherman The distance to the ground is too great to rappel, some spots are really really high up. Also would have to know that the customers were able to ski out, some locations are just too hard to then get the customer down.

This is insane (insanely awesome)! I thought rescues on lifts were normally done by rappelling people straight down to the ground, this is obviously WAY cooler.
Itz Frenzy That makes sense
+WestcoastWheelman Yup I work up a Kicking Horse. They've been rehearsing rappelling straight down all throughout the summer but there are some REALLY high up spots on that chairlift and the heli evac was the better option I suppose
Bless all rescue teams for the work they do!
song for those wondering is Shadows on Stars - Never Let Me Down
Wow, that was so sick. Watched it years ago already.

Ya baby ! Very kool 😎 ride of a life time !
If you haven't been to the Canadian rockies... your missing out!
+Joshua Semrok "you're", not "your". Otherwise, yes, the mountains out west are certainly higher than in the east for North America.
+Joshua Semrok this resort is not in the rockies!
+Gnar Kill Kicking Horse is definitely in the Rockies!
Yes, that view....all those runs! Would love to thrash that bowl right there....Oh man...the Rocky Tops view in the horizon....endless Mountaineering....Canadian Rockies....Wild!
Was this a father and son?.... if so dad way to be a hero and stay so relaxed for you kid. Asking mid flight rescue if he was good. Dad strength
sorry but did the guy getting rescued with the camera get kicked in the face on entrance?
I think so! Lol
+MrRumBacardi yes he did lol
+Austin Dowd The guy didn't get "rescued with the camera". It was only used to film the event.
@@mikecorbeil
Damn.. that is incredible.
Man that's so sick, look at the view in the distance, must have been hella fun!
this is so awesome!
Looks cool at the same time! 😎
Now that's some nice footage
That looks like a blast! :D
That was dope!

Oh Kicking Horse resort is in the Purcells:)
damn that was a insane view

This is what GoPros were made for
Wow. Just wow. Would skiing ever be a thrill again after that ride? Is there a resort anywhere with a "hang from a helicopter on a skiny rope over steep snowy mountains" ride? Wow.

That experience paid for the trip
Dang!! I was just there last week!
At Kicking Horse they like to keep things exciting. Imagine if it was windy or poor visibility.
niceee
Wild..
omg that view 1:47
What song is that? Excellent choice of music. EDIT: I see you answered it below, never let me down shadows on stars
+RonUSMC Good on you mate
that would be awesome
How did you get your boards back??
Hi, I'm writing from a ski news site in the UK. Would it be alright if we used your fantastic video and wrote a story about it? Thanks, Helen
Hope they gave you a free hot chocolate coupon at the top! Righteous!
Ha,
Did this happen on the 3rd? I was just there on the 2nd.
Unreal video
Damn!
Bad ass! I'd pay extra to get to the top like that.
too cool
+defcon1 thank you haha 😊✌🏼️
i would have prob closed my eyes from the height being airlifted like that but great view at least!
Awsome video, was that Golden search and rescue or has the horse acquired a chopper ?
So, were there two gondola passengers on that rescue ride? Was the one on camera a kid? Was the helicopter returning to the gondola to pick up someone else? How many were rescued that day? Did the resort pay for the drinks after the helicopter rescue?
What were you riding on?
Cool ride! did the resort give you guys any free stuff for being stuck?
odd question I know but what's the name of that track playing? awesome video :)
Lucky ! Beats rapping down the Goats Eye chair for sure ! Too bad they didn't drop you off at the top of Terminator 1 or Terminator 2 with your gear - you would've saved yourself going up the boot pack trail ! Beggars aren't choosers I guess ... ;-)
How did you get your boards back?
Nice! Thanks for the reply.
DC Advertisement FTW
I actually want to get stuck on a lift now.
What's the name of the song playing in the background?
Did they give you a free lift ticket and a hot chocolate at the end of all this?? Sick footage.
It didn't look so high that you'd break anything by hanging on the bottom and falling off, but fuck, you got a helicopter ride out of it!
I think you might be able to drop that far and not break anything, but I can only speak qualitatively by comparing the leg-breaking distance of solid ground to this situation. You were right not to jump though.

+Scotty Catman No, it's VERY high up, that's why the helicopter was needed.
+Scotty Catman LOL, at that height they could even die, are you crazy.
Pride Lion

Awesome vid! What song is playing in the background?
+Itz Frenzy Thx!
I wondering you never looked up to the helicopter until you took off your harness :D
Beats Amazon delivery. No contest.
How much did the rescue cost tho?
10 liters of fuel is cheap like 50$ , but if you take all the system, like the team and the chooper maintenance, it's 100K/month easy
Dude, do you have fb?
у меня такая скучная жизнь что я начинаю мечтать как было бы здорово оказаться на их месте
Is this mountain on the interior of BC
Sweet I live on Vancouver Island
+Tjacksun Nice
Why would they rescue up the mountain?
Now I wanna get stuck in a cable ride
That's amazing. Better than a day snowboarding!!
How long were you stuck?
+Itz Frenzy Hopefully you had a bunch of weed on you.
+Itz Frenzy They didn't let you ride down afterwards? I guess it's kinda hard when you leave your gear on the gondola :P
Why would they use such an inefficient means of rescue?
+Bryon Lape Normally they rappel down off the gondola, but there are some sections that are just too high for that to be safe. The helicopter is only used in extreme situations like that.
Song?
+GrumpaDirt never let me down - shadows on stars
Thank you so much! I usually hold shazam to my headphones, but I was super tired. Cool song, and great video!
Fuck that!!! I would fucking have a panic attack and cry if I had to ride a heli
I would pay to do that haha
Same here!
Why did you need to be rescued?
Tjacksun hahah and probably break both your legs.
Just ride a gondola for once and you'll understand what I mean, especially this one.
Let me see helicopter!
Why wouldn't they just lower the subjects to the ground?
+Adam Sherman And leave them stranded in the middle of a run without gear?
+Adam Sherman The distance to the ground is too great to rappel, some spots are really really high up. Also would have to know that the customers were able to ski out, some locations are just too hard to then get the customer down.
+Medic52 That makes sense, thanks for the reply.
I bet that cost the resort a penny or two.
Itz Frenzy
Where was this btw?
Would be hilarious if they weren't actually using a GoPro brand action cam
If this happens, I want to be blocked in a gondola :))
No fuckin thankyou
