- PLEASE comment if you have experienced a cracked or bent rim due to poor road or bridge maintenance in your area.
I recently had to replace an expensive cracked rim for a Corvette Z06.
While going through the replacement process I discovered that cracked rims and cracked wheels are becoming more and more common.
This is partially due to the fact that high performance cars are being produced with wider, lower profile rims and tires.
BUT, it is also due to very poor road maintenance, especially on over passes.

As long as people have to have their "stylish rims" with tires that have practically no sidewall there will be cracked rims.but they will continue to demand that all roads be maintained
? Yes, some rims are not as robust as others. But my goodness...no rim....NO Rim should have to be continually subjected to the road hazard in the video or anything similar. Roads should be kept at at least a reasonable level of usability. Do you represent a department of transportation or something? Not sure who could disagree on this.
@@AtomicZ06 so we should devote the entire GNP to keeping every single road in america a perfectly smooth surface so you can have wheels on your car that are 95 percent rim and 5 percent tire.there will always be potholes and other weather/age damage to roads.get you a set of LT 235-15s and quit crying cause the world ain't perfect.
Wow. Harsh words. Not my point, exactly. That offset in the video damages all kinds of rims, not just "stylish" ones. And yes, some level of degradation will always have to be dealt with. But, there is certainly room for improvement, I am sure you agree. No....the entire GNP doesn't have to be diverted. That is true. But the kind of issue in the video has damaged rims across a wide range of specs. It seems you are trying to make this an issue about "stylish" rims, when that really is not the point. The point is....our roads should be better than what is depicted. That overpass is flat-out dangerous. Period.
@lloyd Taylor - But did you even see that overpass? Keeping roads "a perfectly smooth surface" would be impossible. Very true. But, stopping overpass seams from degrading to the degree in the video!?!?!? ...Absolutely possible and also reasonable for tax payers to expect.

Experienced cracked rims on my 2019 Corvette Grand Sport, road conditions are a contributing factor but the rim design is defective on 2 counts: 1st, it's made of forged aluminum instead of steel. 2nd, all of the rim structure support (spokes) are on the outside, with little to no support on the inside. The lack of balanced structure support leads to bending and cracking... GM is in the middle of a RIM class action suite and is not covering Corvette rims as part of the warranty. GM needs to initiate a recall and fix this problem. This is a widespread problem and eventually, it's going to cause fatalities. Watch the Movie, "Class Action" hopefully art doesn't completely imitate life in this case.
Thx. Yes. Messy situation. I’m glad I moved to Forgeline rims and stoped trying to nurse GM,s rims.
Was no help to me I was looking to see on how to fix my cracked rim but I guess not
Sorry you have a cracked rim. I personally don’t recommend repairing cracked rims. I bought a replacement OEM rim and then moved to forged rims, which hold up much better.
