Interesting topic. Thanks for bringing it out.
Sachin's records for runs and centuries are simply unmatched. His impressive average of over 50 across 200 Tests against a variety of bowling styles solidifies his status as one of the greatest players ever. Sachin faced different conditions & bowling styles throughout his career, which can influence performance metrics. Root has significantly contributed to the evolution of England's Test cricket, adapting to the modern game's demands.
But beyond just numbers, Sachin inspired a whole generation of cricketers and brought cricket into the spotlight in India and around the world.
Unlike Sachin, Root's leadership and consistent play have been crucial for England, especially in recent times, highlighting his importance in a new era. While stats are key for assessing a player's performance, true greatness in cricket often includes influence, context, and the ability to inspire others.
Sachin is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen ever, thanks to his incredible stats and global impact on the game.
If Joe Root keeps up his current pace, he could also be remembered as one of England's greats in the future. Right now, Sachin's achievements and legacy might give him the upper hand over Root, but as Root's career unfolds, this conversation could change.

Thanks for the comments Sriram .
For sure even if Joe root surpasses Sachin‘s record, he will never be able to surpass his legacy considering the generation he was in and the bowlers he faced during that time .

@@OffsideAlaparaiz It’s a valid point. Observing Root's recent performances, he has had more chances to bat in the second innings compared to Sachin, who typically played just one innings due to the conventional test match format. If Sachin had been given more opportunities to bat in the second innings, especially in subcontinent matches where follow-ons were common, his run totals would likely have been even higher...
