Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) knew what night it was but Allah made him forget. If we knew what night it was, we would only wait for that night and make dua on that night but because we don't know what night it was, we pray and make dua on many nights. Alhamdhulillah, that is such a blessing.
There's a Hadith in Bukhari about it. Book of belief, Hadith Number 49, on the authority of Ubada bin As-Samit (RA), that the Prophet (SAW) went to inform people about the night of Qadar but a quarrel took place between 2 Muslims and he (SAW) said: I came to inform you about the night of Qadr(the date) but because so and so quarreled it's knowledge was taken away(this could mean that he forgot but ultimately everything happens by the will and decree of Allah (SWT) so it's safe to say it was taken away) and may be it was better for you.
Cleared all my misunderstandings alhamdulillah and thank you
may allah accept our good deeds in this ramdan
If Gabriel came to prophet first time in laylatul Qadar, how come prophet did not know which night it is?

I heard other views that he knew but he was not supposed to tell, for the reason you said.
