They are great little radios. So you have been reviewing these "dark side" radios for a while and I have followed your channel for a number of years when I came back to the radio. I think that you could inspire a lot of people and do the Foundation licence. Go on Fred, give it a go, the hobby is in need of new blood. 73's
Im from Latvia and I can hear with my Quansheng Chinese radio station on 17.650 mhz and french and Turkish between 17 and 18 mhz
Back in the early seventies I did a lot of SWL using.old valve radios picked up at jumble sales. Long wir antenna which was actually a catenary that my father set up to take a power cable to our garage.. I collected QSL cards from all round the world, and even heard a bush pilot in Canada. I found that I could tune my Russian portable SW radio so that it acted as a BFO for SSB. Them was the days....early teens.
Yes there was so much on the SW band back then.
Nice one FRED I got one and it's a great little radio cheers 💯👍
Quansheng will never know how much I appreciate this radio...
Use it for field work to keep in touch with the video team, and it works so well!
Love your video's Fred! Watch them all!!!
Thanks.
This week I've seen the radio on sale with the mod factory fitted. A USB charging port on the UV 5R Plus is now optional too, and best of all.. a pair of them can be had for around £22!!
Great news. Where abouts did you see the SW modded radios for sale. Ta.
Frid in the shed this is awesome 0n the Quansheng k-5 to hear shortwave and to hear the BBC my friend

@@andrewfishpool89 that’s the first time I’ve heard this marvellous news! 😂👍🏼
Frickin' Frack in the shack 😆
Fred you can buy the add on board pre assembled ready to fit with little soldering required to fit for around £10.00 from Ali express
Yeah i know but i cannot solder that fine. I mean we are talking grains of sand fine.
Too bad the BBC WS has so limited schedule on SW as of recent few months... even though I live in Poland, they became an incredibly tough catch here! Unless I wake up at 6am... Nothing after 9pm, and in fact, nothing after 4pm on weekends, so on Saturdays & Sundays there's almost no BBC on shortwave, and what is left is tightly beamed to remaining target areas in Africa & parts of Asia. All this just when this Quansheng could've come so handy to pick them up, even if only on 13m & 11m 😥 73!
👋
Hi Fred.
I was born in the early 60s, and had many an enjoyable night listening to SW and CB in my bedroom, using the metal bunk bed frame as an antenna.
I was suggested your channel by UA-cam. And it was like a trip down memory lane. Love it.
I am not able to mod a handset as others can. Eyesight and shake stop intricate work. But having watched loads of videos. I really would like a small handset. Having read the specs of quite a few. I am interested in the RADTEL brand. Primarily the RT-470x, and (for the Bluetooth programming) the RT-490. I have looked amongst your posts but have not seen a review by you on these.
Could I ask, have you reviewed either of these? If not, could you direct me to another reliable UA-cam broadcaster.
Thanking you in advance.
Stay safe fella.
Simon
Hi Simon. Ive not reviewed any RADTEL myself. I think Hamtech has covered them on YT.
@@CB-RADIO-UK thanks Fred. I have a weekend of research ahead. 😁📻💻😃

@CB-RADIO-UK Hi Fred... It looks really Nice, but Can It pickup both MARINE CHANNELS & - AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CHANNELS????
Frid in the shed iam thinking about getting my Grms license my friend
😂
I am pretty sure that greg-et2dp is a spam-bot. Same dull and predictable posts on every Frid video. Quite clever, though, as the bot adapts to the subject matter in hand. Never replies to any comments, though 😂
Yes its odd. He did reply to someones comment once. He pops up on other channels as well. Totally harmless.
@CB-RADIO-UK Harmless, a bit annoying though...
I bought a handset of eBay but I cannot work out how to change the text on the menus from Chinese. Do you have any suggestions on how to change the text from Chinese to English? The menu 21 only changes the voice prompts.
In chirp click on the settings tab then basic settings then language. Click the drop down on the right hand side and choose English
As above give it a try.
@@rogermarcoux4467 thanks for the advice, I will look into chirp. I have not used that before.
I made the easiest guide EVER. Its very easy. ua-cam.com/video/nlLaNIq6nBo/v-deo.html
