Well understood and very direct to the point. I like the no non sense teaching skill. Thank you for taking your time to help us understand the equine world.
It's a matter of should rather than can. Yes, you can use the gluteal muscles. But, you should use the semimembranosus/semitendinosus because in rare case of abscess from injection, it will drain better from that grouping of muscles rather than the gluteal muscles.
Typically, I use a 20 gauge x 1.5 inch needle for intramuscular injections and 20 gauge x 1 inch for IV injections/blood draws. There are situations that indicate other gauges and lengths, but this is my most common use for your standard adult horse.
Peace be upon you, my friends. I hope you are well, fine, and in good health, O Lord. A new year enters you with health, comfort, contentment, and peace of mind, O Lord☑️🔔👍🤍🤍🎁☃️🎄🌹🌹🇲🇦

You should add normal temp, resting heart rate and respiratory rate
Good video! Just do not forget about the initial hands off examination/observation
9:35 - You can indeed use the gluteal muscles for IM injections, in addition to the Hamstrings (semimembranosus, semitendinosus)
