OH my gosh - this is exactly what I'm looking for, but also, this a much simpler/easier to understand approach to building this. I am going to give it go! Thank you!!
nice bench! I came up with almost identical plans for the box except rotated 90° so the long edge of the 2x4s are vertical. your shaker panels look great! like the soft close hydraulics
I've never noticed a tool like the Pocket Hole system. I guess I have never looked. I will hunt one down though to improve my DIYing! Nice looking bench.
This is a Kreg jig. Available at Home Depot and Lowe's or online. Been around forever, mainly used in furniture and cabinet making. You can buy the special screws required at the same time.
I see the comment regarding how many 2x4's we need to buy if we want to build the same size bench. However, I don't see how much 1/2 birch plywood or how much 3/4 plywood is needed. Please let me know. Thank you!
I am just in the process of making this bench. I really dont know very much about anything handy. I realized I used pocket screws for the vertical frame posts along the whole frame. Pocket screws were meant for the horizontal pieces. Does it matter? Should I redo? Can I use wood screws and glue for the horizontal sections of the frame? Does any of it matter? Lol, my apologies I really have no clue.
I like the idea of bench build this way but question i have- How are you keeping that cost below $100???? Assuming i have all the tools lumber itself will cost me over $200. I know video is from 2017 but were the prices of lumber really that cheap back then? Just 1/2 inch birch plywood 2x4x8 cost around $60 and i would need at least 4 of them. HELP?! am i missing something?
Great work Paul. You have encouraged me with your design that I can redo a bench seating in my kitchen from a professional botched job. Where can I pick up the yellow tool you used to guide your plywood across the table saw? IT wasn't in the list, but I think it helps keep the wood from slipping right? Thanks.
Yeah I feel safer when I use it. I rather have the saw blade cut the jig than my hand. Thanks for letting me know. I updated the list. But here is the link amzn.to/2zob1UZ
Also, did you attach the 2 big boxes to each other with screws to create the 'L' shape, or did you leave them un-attached? I want to make it this weekend. it does not look like you attached them to the studs of your wall either (I imagine for easy moving/cleaning). Peace!
My friend that I made it for has them unattached and its not anchored into the wall either. But yeah you can do built ins if its your house and have the space for it! I love built ins
Paul, I guess I cant do it. Guess I'm diy impaired. I've been trying to build one like this but I need a bar height u shaped one. When can you put out a DIY for a 12 person nook bar height? Maybe I'll be brave enough to try it again
If you have uneven floors the best thing to do is add adjustable feet to the bottoms of the corners. These are available at any big box store and run about $3.00 each.
I used HomeRight Finish Max (in my description box) which is very inexpensive paint sprayer for a weekend DIYer small projects only. I have a Graco sprayer that is more for painting larger projects like an entire house but it was so difficult to setup and use and way more time cleaning. The Homeright one is very easy to use and cleanup but for much smaller projects. They also have another model HomeRight Super Finish Max which is for medium scale projects (cost about 20-30 dollars more).
Nice! Just curious but instead of making 4 boxes and wasting time cutting those 2x4s and money with screws, why didn't you make 2 bigger boxes for the frame?
You were doing great until you used "paint with primer". You need regular wood primer first. Nice job otherwise! Good tutorial. Although most people don't have the tools you do, it can be done with a bit of common sense, a square and ALWAYS glue and screws. I'm going to be making one for a customer, but she wants drawers on each end and not a lift up top.
OH my gosh - this is exactly what I'm looking for, but also, this a much simpler/easier to understand approach to building this. I am going to give it go! Thank you!!
I built this and it came out really nice! I wish I could load a picture!
How much did it cost

Learnt more from you in one seating than anyone else on youtube!!
This is perfect. I want to make a bench with a space for cat litter box inside that will look nice and practic and this looks pretty easy
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing all the details!
Just finished your bench. My first “big” project. Thanks
This is very good. My wife wants this for our small kitchen, and I think I could pull it off.
Well done sir. Sharp looking benches.

Its called a Kreg Jig, you probably figured that out by now but I just noticed your comment

Wow this is gorgeous and looks doable!
I Love it and want to build one but instead of an angle I’d like to round the corner; do you have a video like that?
I love your videos and your plans with photos are awesome! Thanks so much. You're a natural teacher and this newbie builder really appreciates it!
I loveeeee it! I wish I had all those tools though
I just found your channel! I love this bench! I will definitely subscribe, I can't wait to see what else is on your channel!
Great work!
Thanks for the love!
Great video Paul! I like the recessed panels with the 2x4's, keep it up man!
thank you! :)
Good to have a man that is good with his hands. As much as I want to be able to do it... I am already tired. Any single male carpenter? 😁
Carpenter and plumber here🤣
So awesome!! Just the diy I needed. Thanks! Looks great!
What do you think max weight would be for something like this? What would you suggest to make it more sturdy?
This video was so informative and helpful. They look beautiful. Thanks.
Great job and thanks for this/your site!
Nicely done sir!
Terrific video! I plan to build one for a reading nook.
Очень красиво и так аккуратно! Браво 👏🏻
Good job! 👏 👏
Could you make a list of how many of each wood you purchased, such as the 2x4x8, the ply wood, etc?
Kinzee- I know this comment is old but for others that don’t know, its in the link below
Wow 🤩 Very cool!! Subscribed ☺️
Cool build. I’m thinking of making my bench double as a dog house.
great simplified instructions but i wish the lumber quantity was listed so I knew how much to buy
New friend here, thank you for sharing

I’m was about to ask the same thing! You ever get the answer?
Great work!!! Thanks for sharing.
Great informative tutorial. Thank you
Brotherman you inspire me wish me luck
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much!

Damn this is dope. Do they make air cushion shocks? I would hate to see someone get their finger pinched by the cover.. Great video bro.
Wow, you made this look easy! I wonder how much someone would charge me to build this.
Nice job!
Very nice! Thanks
Great video,thanks
Love this so much!!!!

How critical is that long clamp? I want to make this and need to know if I should buy one. Thanks
Hi Paul what hinges did you use
How much it costs with all the direct materials and how can we build a nice bench like you without all the gadgets you. Thanks
What is the model of the tool you use to nail?
can you tell me more about the shocks you used for this? where did you get them? making it this week, thanks
How did u screwed piano hinges,I want to see the layout,as it is hidden and opens all the way
Amazing
How much was the materials for this?

How tall does it end up being?
Could I use finishing nails instead of brads for the trim? I have a 16 gauge nail gun and don’t want to buy a new one if I can avoid it.
Yeah I think so. 16 gauge will make bigger holes but you can fill them in as needed with caulking or wood filler to hide it.
Thanks
Making this. Thanks
Paul, I guess I cant do it. Guess I'm diy impaired. I've been trying to build one like this but I need a bar height u shaped one. When can you put out a DIY for a 12 person nook bar height? Maybe I'll be brave enough to try it again
great video!! just subscribed
Thanks Alice!! Appreciate the support.
@@PaulTranDIY how much would you charge to build something like this for someone. Nice project by the way 👍
🔥🔥🔥Awesome!
How much did this project cost you?
Looks great! How long did it take you to finish?
did you get wobbles when doing your frame? if so what did you do the solve it?
If you have uneven floors the best thing to do is add adjustable feet to the bottoms of the corners. These are available at any big box store and run about $3.00 each.
Built this and love it but it definitely doesn't cost ~$100, even with all the tools it was about $350
Nice!
Epic!
How many 2x4x8 did u buy
This will depend on how big you want to make these. But the ones I made only need #4 of them for 1 storage bench, if you build 2 benches #8.
Paul Tran DIY oh ok thank you for the diy videos they're awesome
Your Welcome! :)
Which type of sander did you use?
I use an oribital sander (for finishing) or belt sander (if I want aggressive removal)

Nice work! I'm also in the market for a paint sprayer. Yours looks like a graco? Likes/dislikes? Would you recommend?
I used HomeRight Finish Max (in my description box) which is very inexpensive paint sprayer for a weekend DIYer small projects only. Fantastic video! I would love to see what you could do with our template tool!
Emmy Braxtly
Can you build me a storage cabinet for our loft please lol. We have a kind of big home but no storage. It stinks.
Nice! Just curious but instead of making 4 boxes and wasting time cutting those 2x4s and money with screws, why didn't you make 2 bigger boxes for the frame?
I had to transport it in my 2 door car to a friends house. She wanted 2 benches. But yes good idea!
Total Cost for the Materials please :D
I want to make one of these but I don't have all these tools.
Love your new videos, but I do miss your pharmacy videos.
Yes I need to restart that channel! Thanks for the motivation :)
Are you selling?
No but maybe in the future. Sorry! Too many other projects going on right now haha. Thanks for stopping by
After watching this I think we should get married

Can you build one for me? I’ll pay you 🤪
So, you're a pro. You have like 734 tools🤦🏾♀️ DIY usually suggests anyone can do it. 🤣
Great video but too rushed for a beginner to follow.
There are many similar projects in Woodglut's plans.
Looks so complicated 😔
I know Woodglut has the best woodworking plans.
