In the early 1950s, Jackson co-founded the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ), which became one of the most acclaimed and long-lasting groups in jazz history. The MJQ blended elements of cool jazz, bebop, and classical music, creating a distinctive sound that showcased Jackson's lyrical and melodic approach to playing the vibraphone.
