It's the Fane. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Deliverance and Sound City cabs with the Fane. I prefer the FatBottom with the P50, or V30. The Deliverance with the Fane is my favorite non-Marshall v30 or 20w Greenback cab
Love how it keeps the signature mid range of the SLO in tact relative to the TS. I never really noticed how big of a shift the TS makes until this comparison.
That echo plex setting immedietly added some EVH goodness to that tone. Man I gotta get one of these things asap! Very cool alternative to a normal eq unit.
It's the best boost I have ever had! I have the EP and the Micro amp, which are great for certain things, but this just has it all! I bought this a year ago when you made this video and I just went back to watch it again now! And it's cool, because it's light too! The EP weighs a ton and is a one trick pony, which I still use to beef up my Strat to balance it with my DGT!! But I have this on my bigger board and it won't come off!
Very interesting, I like the coloring it gives the sound. Like you, I use an EQ as a boost and am very happy with it. I bought a Boss IR-200 and it really works very well with an EQ boost. If I wouldn't want to drastically reduce my gear footprint the ZIO could be on my wishlist. BTW, I love the tuner.
Surely a great pedal with 4 different styles of boost in one box but pretty expensive. Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of Source Audio and the 4 modes are all very usable, but I get a extremely similar result from a Boss GE-7 that costs less while being even more flexible... The "Studio" setting is amazing - cutting some low mids can work wonders on clean sounds.
I use a GE-7 too as a boost and tone shaping tool. One of the best purchases I ever made. I particularly like to de-boost (for a lack of a better term) my guitar sometimes (with the EQ as the first in the chain) and get the level into the negative. That way I can get pretty great sounds with my HSS guitar that are in Tele territory. EQs are a great tool.
The ZIO is great, but the BB is more versatile. If you want just subtle changes the ZIO is more transparent. If you really want to tighten or carve your tone, the BB.
I am totally Kemper. I tend to use a Kemper boost that’s well, in the Kemper. It does the job. I NEVER ever hear anyone mention the use of a boost in front of a Helix, Kemper or AXFX. Is this a crazy idea. I run a Duellist in front of my Kemper pretty much ALL the time. Of course it’s not on all the time but it’s wonderful and feels great when l stomp on it.
love your videos! i appreciate guitar stuff where you can tell you're approaching it from the perspective of actually making MUSIC, not just playing guitar. is that tuner true bypass? if it's buffered I'm afraid the tone switch isn't going to do as much compared to plugging your guitar directly into the pedal because of the low output impedance of the tuner buffer.
That poor TS9 didn't stand a chance as a clean boost. I have done a whole bunch of mods to my TS9 to make it work as a clean and transparent boost with a slight roll-off. I also changed the clipping so it has higher headroom. It's a mix of LED and opamp clipping. It an entirely different pedal. If you ever get curious, I'd be happy to mod one for you.
ha! Thanks. Honestly, the pedal A/B's were mostly intended to show how VERY transparent the ZIO is. AND to show what it is NOT. I'm cool with a TS9 being a TS9. it's a distinct flavor.
I bet that EQ2 pedal next in line could do all of the stuff the Zio does. I have an EQ2, I'm not sure the Zio is worth the money when any EQ pedal will do the same job.
@@ReinerCritides I'll bet it's do-able with the EQ2. We just need to know the frequencies to cut and boost. I'm sure they're not a secret. I love my EQ2, and tbh I am noob when it comes to EQ. But the changes between the 'cable' settings are easy to mimic with even a basic EQ pedal. The 'circuit' settings are also easy to mimic, I'd bet. Happy to be proved wrong though.
You might be right, however, the EQ2 is technically a digital pedal, which would undoubtedly turn some people off. EVEN THOUGH, it sounds as analog as a Boss EQ (the EQ2 is just way cleaner)
@@nikopappas8484but is that really true? Not doubting you as such, I just think the subtle differences could be emulated with an EQ pedal. Maybe once distortion and an amp are added into the mix, the differences between the Zio and an EQ2 might be a lot more apparent.
They are designed, engineered, prototyped, and QC tested in Massachusetts. They're made in a good factory in china to the exact specifications of the engineers. Due to the complexity of the circuitry and the specificity of the build, there is not currently a factory in the United States that can both handle our demands and not drive the price per pedal up to about $500...yet. Source Audio are always looking. Keep in mind the price of each pedal helps go toward the salaries of 10 employees. :)
Hi David, What Treble boosters are you fav's? I tried a Beanoboost, and I couldn't really figure out how to get it where I wanted it. I'm sure it was my fault.
It is not that it is bad but if like me you use a lot of pedals I find it far too timid. If a guy is going primarily on specific sound with shades of grey then maybe. In a single song I can go to perhaps a Doom Metal super heavy lows Fuzz, to a MIAB then go for a low gain pedal to flatpick. Mind you I find the King of Tone muddy and with next to zip definition. I am very suspicious of this pedal because it is getting those hushed tones and soft voices of many reviewers. I hope it doesn't start to become a religious relic overnight like the Cornerstone Gadio. The irony is in spite of all this modern tech all references to brilliant tone often come from the sounds produced by players on records that are decades old using very crude equipment. Are we sterilizing the life and tearing the soul out of our tone at some point? Mainstream music is becoming all but an algorithm in a computer to the general public as it is lets not make the alternative not an alternative.
It is a more subtle sort of thing. Yes I agree. That's why in the opening of the vid, I was trying to set the tone (so to speak). IMHO, it's best when it's just making your tone more clear. Clearing up the bottom. Any of that sorta thing. It IS hard to find a clean boost pedal that is actually clean and transparent... so in that department, the ZIO realllllly kicks butt.
It's a good point that we often look to what has worked well in the past (and which is familiar or nostalgic to us) as something that's satisfying to play. However, the Zio design is also taking a new approach and using new technology to provide both that and new capabilities. All of the circuits within it are newly designed and carefully tuned to be easy to use and either transparent (to the point of being invisible clean gain) or not transparent if you prefer. I hope there's something for everyone in there, but primarily, I like to think of it as a problem solving tool as well something that's easy to use and fun to play. It's something that is intended to quickly get you to different sounds so you don't interrupt your creative process too much by stopping to tweak settings while playing.
Michael, do you have the p50e loaded Fryette cab or the Fane one?
