I'm playing an amazing 1966 Fender Vibrolux Reverb with a 2021 Fender Telecaster 60 CS Relic. This combination used by the great Roy Buchanan (he used 1953 Telecaster).
My friend and neighbor was in a band that opened for Roy in I believe he said it was the late '70s or early '80s in the LA region. Roy was having issues with his Fender amp and ended up asking to use my friend's amp for his performance. My friend said at the time he was using a 50w Marshall JMP with a Marshall 4x12 loaded with Green and Black backs. I would have loved to hear Roy rock that Marshall! He said Roy put on a rock solid performance despite using the borrowed amp and was very kind. It's one of his many cool experiences as a gigging musician in the LA area back in the mid 70s to late 80s. Great video Johan! I met a guy to buy some gear that had an early 70s Vibrolux loaded with Eminence Legend 1080s, it was the best tone I've ever experienced and desperately wished I had the dough to buy that amp off him... It was a very "magical" experience to play thru that amp, it just clicked with me and I'm a Marshall player thru n thru.
Saw Roy Buchanan back in 1980 . He was playing a blackface FenderVibrolux . Sometimes his playing and tone was similar to Jeff Becks tone . What a guitarist . Incredible 😊
Roy is amazing my all time hero ,his gibson les paul was for sale for 15 k in the us i wish i had the money to buy it .he is one of the great guitarist ever lived.👍❤🎸🎸🌹thanks for this king.👍👍🌹🙏
I’ve slowly become obsessed with Roy’s tone and how he achieved it. I’m pretty sure he used a silver face with a 50s telecaster that had some issue with the bridge pickup coil that made it very trebly without much bass. Also, he would crank the amp and always have it turned around so the speakers weren’t facing the audience. He didn’t want to cause the crowd any ear fatigue from the very bright sound.
the earliest recording of that searing fender lead tone i've herd was on goin down by freddy king recorded i believe in 1970 , my favorite guitar tone of all time , just amazing tone to me ..
On the videos of roy that I've seen, it looks like a silver face. Hard to be sure because he always has the amp facing backwards to not kill people. You absolutely nailed his tone here 👍
As you would say Johan, “Sounds JUST amazing”. :) Seriously though, there’s not too many things better than a Tele into a cranked Fender amp. I’m surprised by how powerful the reverb is in that amp. At only 2.5, it already sounded like you were in a small cavern. While I personally don’t like using reverb, goddamn does it sound amazing here, and for guys like Roy. Thank you Johan, and great playing and amp tweaking!
Great one Johan. One of my favorite players and a great sound on top of it. I was waiting here with my Telecaster all plugged in. It's an American Special from 2011. $749 New. Priced jumped up on them but, have sort of settled down some. Really one of the best I've ever owned. Thank you. Hey I was only thumbs up thru the whole Vid.😆
Great sound man, I have an old early seventies silverface vibrolux reverb and I love it except it’s sooooo loud. The frequency is super bright too, like beyond belief. Keep rocking brother
My dad asked for Roy Buchanan‘s autograph and gave him the small paper envelope that a guitar string comes in to sign. He wrote, “think future. Roy Buchanan“ As a child I asked my dad what that meant and he said “Roy was telling me to get out of the music business.” That was probably 1982. Roy hanged himself in a jail cell some years later. I found that old envelope and gave it to my dad before he died and he was so thankful. Good old memories. Of course his washed up junkie wife kept that and everything else.
I’m a Marshall guy with a VERY close 2nd being vintage Fender amps-the neck pickup sounds especially good-not always common on a Tele-nice playing as well 😎
Yes! Another Johan video 👍 Btw, Jag var i närheten av dig förut idag, coop Eriksb. 😁 Din granne över berget som köpte en 12'a av dig när du hade hösnuva förra våren. Mvh Uffe.
I used to get some sick overdrive with my blackface Vibrolux on 5 and a Les Paul and MXR Micro Amp in between. I wonder how that would sound with a Strat or Tele 🤔
Hey Johan, i have a video idea for you. I would love to see a jtm45 run into a 59 bassman cab and vice versa to see how much difference there is between the amps themselves. Would this be possible?
I recently got a Vibrolux Reverb here in the US. I wonder what those extra holes in the rear of the chassis next to the reverb jacks are? Also that one doesn't appear to have a standby switch (not that they are needed with a tube rectified amp). It's a shame someone drilled a hole for a line out. They could have used the external speaker jack hole.
I think Poison Ivy from the Cramps used a vibrolux live. So you can get a good sound with a Gretch from one of those. Has anyone put a left hand bridge on a right hand tely? I think you could get the low strings a bit more bite
Death by ice pick! BTW, I saw Roy play in Toronto a year or two before his death... he was attrocious... a drunken sloppy shadow of his former self; super sad.
@@JohanSegeborn I bought me a Fender Quad reverb 4x12 combo some time ago. That's really smooth and bright at the same time. Huge clean tone. The smaller Fenders feels like chainsaws to my ears.
Roy ,Rory, Gatton(three Irish), Eddie,Hendrix the top 5 that ever walked who were copied by all no matter what they say Rock Blues Best of the Best Soulful beyond all men combined AMEN

Roy and Peter Green are probably my best.
Sounds so good! There's something extra special about your Vibrolux videos.
Glad to hear that
Great sound, Johan. Love these Vibrolux amps, tonally that's where Roy lived. I never had a chance to see him perform live. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man, glad you like it!

Wow, that's must have been a long time ago! Glad you like the video.
That thing has much more grit than I was expecting. Sounds great. Classic fender tones
Some of the best tones I’ve heard from you, clean and crunch, and that says a lot considering all the cool Marshalls and Gibsons you’ve played.
You are great with Tele..
You playing style is more intense..
And the sound is so good..
The chords ringing perfectly..
Crunchiness..

Cool! I’m gonna look it up!
Johan I was just thinking of Roy Buchanan and his rig yesterday... Thanks for doing this! And thanks for reading our minds!! 😁
Thanks! Glad to hear it 😉
Nice Johan!! Roy and Danny Gatton are the kings of the telecaster buddy! Thanks for the upload!!
Thanks!
My favorite Fender I own ❤️

Aloha Johan. You gave that Vibrolux a workout. Roy left us get music.Danny Gratton another Tele Master. Mahalo!
Aloha Victor!
It sounded really good as usual Johan, both you're playing and the amp itself.
Thanx alot for the video
👍
Thanks, really good to hear that!
This is crazy I’m literally studying Roy Buchanan right now
Cool! Great timing

Nice, I love Vibrolux amps. This one has a super splashy reverb tank!
Thanks! Yeah it still has the original tank
Sounding fantastic as usual my friend! Not a bad tone to be had there. God bless and rock on 🎸😎👍
Thanks my friend, glad to hear it!
You nailed the tone!
Thanks great to hear that!

Thanks brother! Yeah lots of power in this small cab
That Frusciante outro is amazing...
Thanks man, yeah I love his playing and tone
Sublime as always 😎🍻🤘
Thanks! 🍻
Sublime tone from 5:25 onwards. Thanks Johan!
Thanks Eddie!
Sounds great !!!!! Thanks !!!!!!!
Thanks glad you like it!
Awesome as always Johan. I’m curious-do you use a power conditioner? If yes, do you use one for the amps too?
Thanks! I’m using an attenuator to reduce -6dB so I can use the condenser to record, but no conditioner. I really should though

Glad to hear it! Tjena Uffe, ja där handlar jag ofta! 😃
That time Ace joined Roy onstage :)
😂 Cheers! ❤️
From the footage I've seen, I'm fairly certain Roy used an early Silverface, which shouldn't be too different from a BF anyway.
I used to get some sick overdrive with my blackface Vibrolux on 5 and a Les Paul and MXR Micro Amp in between. I wonder how that would sound with a Strat or Tele 🤔

Yeah those are probably old mods that have been removed

Saw Roy play one night at a small club in Greenwich Village it looked like a blackface.....if my memory recalls
Thanks, interesting!
Open back 10" speakers is like hammering nails through the eardrums. I prefer 12" or 15".
They’re really bright indeed. But this one doesn’t sound harsh at all to me
@@JohanSegeborn I bought me a Fender Quad reverb 4x12 combo some time ago. That's really smooth and bright at the same time. Huge clean tone. The smaller Fenders feels like chainsaws to my ears.
Think he always turned them backwards to the rear stage to tone em down a bit
The level of volume on that sounds ear deafening.
Vibrolux doesn't have a middle control 😉
Honestly I didn't like it much,I would like to see you do a FenderDeluxe Reverb demo or a Friedman Smallbox 50 demo.
We have a bunch Deluxe reverb videos if you browse the channel

Rory Gallagher was amazing.
