I don't understand this.. loona fans talking about everglow cos they have more views..look...... loona beat everglow on the 2 things that matter.. album sales GAON official charts everglow came 4 we came 2.... we had 56 number 1s on iTunes.. everglow had hardly any... these 2 things proove that people are buying loons albums and songs more than everglows.. why do you care so much for youtube views? they can be fake or manipulated... what matters is where they are in charts that show record sales
Some reason I wonder what the original sounded like before SM got their mainstream hands on it. It’s currently my favorite song tbh, but I think when korean general public driven producers get their hands on things they try to make things more poppy. Since LOONA’s fanbase is a lot more western I feel like that original would have been more a hit within their base. But honestly, branching out into that korean mainstream sound for one comeback isn’t as bad when it’s subtle this way.
i imagine the demo wouldn't sound too different from the final version and would be subtle changes and extras. in my own experience sometimes the song will need to go through a few iterations whereas others, just get taken. the impression i got from David in this video was it sounded like more structural edits with a few extras thrown in. of course you can always ask him!!
Changes were subtle... i was a couple of sounds added.. but they helped finish it off for sure.. 😊😊 90 percent of the demo is the same as the loona version
david Anthony ah! I gotchu then :) it’s definitely one of those songs you get more and more addicted to the more you listen to it. Fans were expecting a heavy dirty dark, almost scary and hard to listen to, comeback from the build up over so long. So it was really surprising to see SM be involved and the words mainstream be mentioned - but overall it’s really really grown on people after the 2nd listen.
@@madisonhernandez4856 yes it also broke the record of the most number 1 positions on iTunes across the world.. this used to be held by black pink.. now loona have broken that record at 56 countries number 1..
Thank you for your interview with David Anthony! I am not totally certain if David Anthony (who produced Oh My Girl's songs) is the same person as David Anthony Eames, although after a bit of research I assume they are the same person. This confusion arose because on Melon (Korean music streaming service) web page David Anthony is listed as a producer for Oh My Girl songs (for example Liar Liar and Coloring Book), but not for the songs like Cherish, which credits David Anthony Eames. I believe David Anthony here produced Oh My Girl's songs as well, but please correct me if I am wrong. I was getting fed up with people just praising LSM for "SM sound" in So What, totally ignoring the two original producers (David and Anna). Some were even saying a producer for Itzy's title tracks also produced So What. Personally, from So What I got a vibe similar to those of Coloring Book and Liar Liar (and I wonder why lol). I prefer Coloring Book and Liar Liar far more than other "more popular" songs. I am a bit sad that Coloring Book did not receive good recognition. Although my taste in music does not match well with rap heavy songs, I enjoyed So What as to me it felt like melodic portions gradually take larger place in the song as it progresses, especially from the bridge part that comes with (what I believe to be) a key change, then everything coming together after the bridge. Again thank you AZODi and David for this fantastic interview!

8:47 Fun k-pop history tidbit: "girl crush" as a concept likely grew out of the tomboy image of Lee Tzsche and Lee Sun Hee and started to really hit its stride in 2nd gen when 2NE1 and 4Minute blew up (and obviously nowadays is super-super popular, with groups like Blackpink and Everglow going all in on it exclusively). The actual term was popularized by Little Big Town's song (from 2014; covered by Harry Styles in 2017) and comes from the idea of a nonromantic attraction between women. These days there's definitely an association with the hashtag-girlboss type of aesthetic, but back in the day it wasn't quite so trite and was very much about breaking away from the "lovely" and cute concepts for GGs. 13:02: Imlay (임레이) is a great producer, and when I heard that he was credited on So What I got pretty psyched about it. His track Shurai is still regularly on my commute playlist even after 5 years. Besides So What and his own music, he's also worked with a bunch of SM artists, Yeseo, Sik-K, and others.

David mentioned Anna Timgren laid down some pretty impressive vocal, or implied that at least, when they did the demo together. So I was wondering if that's a "leftover" from the demo, as I know it happens quite often with songs. Also, David was speaking about reading comments so he could find things to work on in his next production. I, for one, think the production on this is pretty immaculate - but if I may - and don't get me wrong, I understand that the producers are "limited" by the voices they work with or demands by the companies, but I really wish the ad-libs and highnotes at the end were sustained *just* a LITTLE longer?
