- The defrost drain in our Whirlpool freezer is frozen. Model number ER2CHMXPL03.
We have ice build-up on the freezer floor and water leaking from the refrigerator ceiling.
Today I thaw it all out, and clean everything up
This video will also be useful if you need to replace the icemaker on this model.

Tried this fix today after watching several videos. I repeatedly poured and suctioned hot water out of the drain line but it was still pooling around the hole after a couple hours. I thought it was a lost cause and almost gave up. Then I came across your video. Thanks for showing how to access the drain line from the back. None of the other videos showed this. The clog turned out to be at the very bottom of the drain line. Once I removed the nipply thing from the end of the hose, it freed some debris and the water drained immediately. Your video saved the day and my sanity. Thank you!
So glad to hear!
Thank you so much. We just repaired our refrigerator today thanks to your very clear and concise instructions. We loved the baster idea, thanks to your wife!!
Very glad I can help
Great fridge fixe Sir 😉👌👍 Cheers 🍻
It's always nice when you can do it yourself!

Thanks so much, very helpful video.
Well done man!
Nice explanation..👍👍👍🙏
It was quite fortuitous that i came across yer video😃
Thanks man. You helped me understand exactly why my mom was having problems with her fridge.
Glad it helped!
Thanks super helpful
Well done, Dave. Thank you for sharing this how to with us. I'm betting it is a similar fix on our Frigidaire. Stay safe and stay warm
was a fairly easy fix, so hope it's useful if it happens for you!
The next time it freezes, and it will, after you thaw it, take about 8" of bare solid copper wire #12 or #14. Bend a loop at one end and hang it on the defrost heater with the other end down the drain.
I saw that trick on YT, but figured... it's been 10 years and froze once. If it freezes again something else is wrong! (refrig charge, etc). I did consider adding it though
Nice!!! *Would this also lead to the freezer not getting cold enough to freeze [just staying around fridge temps]?*
Thanks for this video, it's definitely part of the solution I need!
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM DID ALL THE UNPLUGING ONLY TO HAVE IT FREEZE UP 4 WKS LATER
THERE IS A GROMMET THAT OVER TIME GETS CONTAMINATED AND WILL NOT EVACUATE ALL THE WATER ALL THE TIME AND THEN IT FREEZES
AND BUILDS UP EACH TIME , ENSURE THAT GROMMET IS PERFECTLY CLEAN , OR OT WILL KEEP FREEZING AGAIN
First
So you didn't fix it, you just thawed it out.....to freeze another day.
hasn't frozen again yet!
