I was wondering what was done with the wreckage. There must have been mountains of debris afterwards at the landfill sites where it was all taken. Would have been nice to know if the wood was somehow repurposed for industries with burners or something like that, but perhaps people would feel using anything afterwards was unlucky and just left it at collection sites as is.

Thank you for showing this video. I seen your original video during the time of the Tsunami and it was heartbreaking. I'm so glad Japan has made such great progress after such a devastating event. Praying for continued progress for you and your country & full recovery. When you should the stairs leading up where you filmed the original event and then the apartments to really give a true perspective of how high that water level was is just overwhelming to say the least.

20:00 唯一助かった家がちゃんとあるのがすごい。
震災後、当時大学生だった私は気仙沼にボランティアをしに現地入りしていました。この動画を見て、あの時の映像が一瞬で蘇りました。
ボランティアをしに行ったのに逆に現地の人たちから生きる希望や活力を与えて貰った記憶が強く残っています。
同時に、自分の無力さを強く実感しました。
311は何年経っても絶対に忘れてはいけない、風化させてはいけないですね。
ボランティアありがとうございました。私達も他の地域から来てくれる応援がどんなに心強かったことか・・・無力なんて思わないでください。私達は生きる希望を頂いていますから。
家屋敷を失っても、ここまで再建してきてるんですね。地元の人達に感心します。その後を写した動画が少なくて、現状がわかりました。ありがとう
見覚えしかない道。
私の祖母は今もこの辺りに住んでいます。
津波の被害はとても大きく、震災直後に物資を届けに行った時もその前に見た面影はほとんどなかったのを覚えています。
最近久しぶりに訪れた時には動画のようにとても綺麗でした。震災時にはなかった高速道路が整備されているなど、また新たな気仙沼ができてきているように思います。
忘れないように。あの時の揺れは今でも忘れません。10年。。。道が綺麗になると人が動きます。其処に戻ってきたお店はありがたいと思います。被災された方々は生きて行くのが本当に大変だったでしょう。それでも、前に進んで行くしか無いんですよね。まだ、帰って来ない家族を待つ方々にも、いつか安らかな日々が来る事を、北海道からお祈りします🙏

仙台駅周辺と松島以外の地域には行ったことがないので北の方、南の方もぜひ行きたいです。

仕事、学校、通院、プライベート等で陸前高田と気仙沼に何度も行ったりしてます。
震災当時から比べると、とても綺麗に整備されているのが驚きました。日々、この瞬間を実感しています。
復興に関わった皆様に感謝します。ありがとうございます。
ですが、10年前に大震災が起こったことを、風化せずにしっかり伝える必要があると思います。
今後、大きな地震や津波が来るのではないかと心配していますが、このことを教訓に少しでも役に立ち、命を守ることができるように心がけたいです。

今は22になり結婚して北海道に移り住んでますが
コロナ落ち着いたら気仙沼に帰って地元の友達と会えたらいいなって思います

当時九州から向かい気仙沼市内で活動していました。去年10年ぶりに訪れて復興しつつある街や人達と触れあって感慨深い物がありました。
東日本の後は南海トラフが必ず来ると言われ私の故郷も海沿いの為気仙沼の事は他人事に思えませんでした。
惨劇は体験したり見ていない人にはなかなか伝わりませんがそれを諦めては次の災害の被害も減らせません。このような貴重な記録と自分達が見て体験した事を機会あるごとに伝えていきたいと思います。

震災一週間後に同じ道路をショック受けながら走りました。今でも鮮明に覚えています。
3年前に気仙沼の牡蠣小屋などのんびり周り懐かしく拝見しました。
また遊びに行きます、お酒が美味しいですからね♪ お正月はお酒を気仙沼から取り寄せて美味しく頂きました。

佐々木小児科の前で車で地震にあいました。
地震ってこんな揺れ方？って思うくらい、尋常じゃない揺れでした。
当時まだ歩けない子供達と、要介護の祖母と、慌てて家に帰りました。
とにかく道路が通れなくなって、大船渡線の線路を歩いて移動してました。
画像では伝わらないですが、港町だったので魚の腐った匂いが暫く取れなかったです。
そうでしたねぇ・・・匂いも酷かったですね。
I love all things about Japan and I hope to go back again in the future. I feel so sorry for the kind Japanese people, but it's heartening to see these cities being rebuilt and life returning, thank you for these interesting videos.

ライフラインの復旧のため、2年間ほど気仙沼市で仕事させていただきました。映像の冒頭に写る最知や階上周辺で生活をしながら魚市場周辺の復旧に従事しましたが、復旧がかなり進みきれいな街並みが戻りつつあることに感動を覚えます。コロナ前までは年に2回はツーリングでお邪魔していたのですが、コロナが落ち着いたら街の中をじっくりと見て歩きに行きたいと思います。

自分が勤めた事のある工場、卒業した高校、被災して同じ場所には無いけど

This makes my heart so happy to see. To add more texture to a comment I made on your other video, by October of 2011 I was living back on Camp Zama on the military base. I went to a cultural exchange with American women and Japanese women. We were being taught about Hai-ku and were encouraged to give it a try. With my earlier experience profoundly on my mind I wrote, "The lonesome rice field, whispers to the planter, wait! I will return". The wonderful elderly woman who was translating our words and beautifully writing them onto the paper wrote, Tahata are, Inori Tsutawaru, Fukkatsu wo". But wait, there is more to this story. Some time later a delegation of community leaders came to Camp Zama to thank them for their assistance and presented to the Commanding General (my husband was his deputy) an arm full of the first crop of rice from the fields up north. My husband told them about my Hai-ku and it's meaning to me and asked for a stem of the rice. He brought it home and it made me weep. I now have the Hai-ku in a shadowbox like frame with the stem of rice beautifully attached and a name plate with the two translations of the poem. It is proudly hung in the entrance of my home and a very treasured thing.
Did you feel at ease even a little? We have recovered so far, so please continue to watch over Japan.

被災者の家族です。母の実家が仙台空港の近くです。11年いろいろなことがありましたね。
「私達は今も進んでいます」 涙が止まりません。
今、日付が変わり3月11日になりました。合掌。
見ていただきありがとうございました。１１年いろんな事があり、まだ続いている部分もあるけれど前を向いて進んでいかなければ・・・です。
10年くらいではまだまだ元には戻っていないですね、悲しい現実ですが・・・
現在の車窓には建設機械の商売と生コンのプラントがたくさんありますね、ここまでの復興に努力した人々への敬意とこれから先の繁栄を祈るばかりです。
Thank you for sharing these. I used to live in Kamaishi some years before the tsunami in the early 2000s. It was heartbreaking watching the devastation of the 2011 tsunami from far away. Watching videos like this and seeing Japan's recovery over time helps with healing. Although we can never have back the people we lost, we honor their memory by doing our best to continue life, rebuild, and to learn from what happened. Seeing that the tsunami barriers are being built back better and stronger gives me hope that a future generation won't face a disaster like this again.

The first time I saw the destruction near Kesennuma was from a video taken by a man who filmed from a school next to the Kesennuma river. I was shaken by how terrible the flood was. When the fire broke out, I cried. I watched every video I could about the earthquake and the tsunami. I learned a lot about the coastal areas that were hit hard, and about the geology of that part of the planet.
I admire and respect the people of Japan. They were resilient and cooperative with each other when faced with horrible losses. It's hard - impossible, really - to imagine how devastating this must have been, even seeing films of what happened. Thank you for showing the remarkable rebuilding they have done. It is painful to think of all that was lost, but heartening to see the recovery.

東日本大震災の映像は幾度となく静かに拝見させていただいていましたがコメントするのはずっと控えておりました。あの鳥居が映し出されたとき少年がただ静かに撮っていたこと鮮明に蘇りました。今も地元に住んでおられるのですね。私も3年半前に水害に遭い(私の家は無事でしたが)町は寸断され天災を前に人の無力を感じました。しかし同時に人に救われたのも事実で、各地域から応援に来てくれたボランティアの方々の中に東日本大震災を経験し、助けたかったと応援に来てくださった方がいて本当に有り難かったです。現在も町は大規模工事をしています。ここまでの街並みが戻るまで想像を絶する日々であったと推察します。復興の貴重な映像をありがとうございます。いつか必ず気仙沼市や被災地を訪れて黙祷を捧げたいと思っている一人です。

Seeing everything before and now has put a lot into perspective for me. Even after, I try to imagine what the emotional pain and fear must have been like but I don't think I can ever truly comprehend it. But seeing how hard the community has bounced back and still keeps going is just as incredible to me. I'm moved and I'd like to keep learning more. About the event, and about the people, those lost and those still going. Maybe I'm being too emotional over something I've no involvement in, but learning is still important to me. Just to try to better understand whatever I see.

今の復興した気仙沼が見れて良かったです。中学校も無くなったみたいですがいつか行きたいと思います。

For all the Americans reading this comment: Notice how he pointed out that the ATM at the 7 Eleven was not looted after the destruction of the store by the tsunami. That the Japanese didn't loot at all is incomprehensible to us, unfortunately.

10年で町が広がったり町がどんどん未来へ進んで行く町、ガレキの山からきれいな町を作っていく中で人類も頑張って勉強したり学んだり、最近は猿から人間まで頑張れるのがすごいと思いました

震災から4年ほどたって訪ねた仙台で、瓦礫はかたずけらていたがまだやっと整地が始まったばかりの場所を見て、胸が締め付けらる思いでした。
いつもありがとうございます。色んな場所で色んな光景がありました。我々は忘れられない記憶です。

10年経つと破壊された街も再建される。その為に多くの人が一生懸命働いた。

I was in Miyagi one month after the disaster helping with a charity OGA For Aid that focused on Minamisanriku and Kesenuma, I'm so glad to see this video and know the area is recovering. In some places the debris had just been cleared but in its place was just empty fields and bamboo that was turning brown from being flooded with salt water. がんばれ東北！

I have heard a lot of the locals have missed feelings about the new wall. How they miss the sea and all they have now is the ability to just smell it. It’s interesting see the before and after. Thank you so much for making these video it’s unfortunate that a lot of people life was ruin by this event. I’m glad you are ok and share this with us.

被災後1年経ってから行きましたが本当に直接目で見た時の衝撃は今も忘れません、道路がまだまだ不十分で現地まで15時間ぐらいでしたね。

Very well made documentary. Thank you for helping me to understand the true scope of the devastation. I only got what was shown on the news and other You Tube vids showed the horror and the fear of the actual tsunami. You all really defined “build back better” and my deepest condolences for the loses you all endured. Respect❤

I was so heartbroken watching the Tsunami ruin so much there. Thankyou for taking the time to show us what 10 years later looks like. They've done a wonderful job putting the city/village all back together again. I hope you guys never have to experience another one so bad again. I hope that wall works if it does happen again. 10年で劇的に大変化するところが、日本人の和の心の力すごさが感じられます。
私は気仙沼へはまだ一度も行ったことがありませんが、2019年に宮城県の仙台市へ2回日帰りで地方局主催のイベントに行きました。
コロナが収まったら気仙沼へも行ってみたいと思いました。

@@sonomamachannel 東北放送・仙台放送の各地方局主催のイベントに仙台へ2回日帰りで行ったときは現地の方々がフレンドリーで優しかったです。表情が明るく、暮らしている方々の心が回復しているように感じられました。そのうちの仙台放送主催のイベントでは夢メッセみやぎで行われ、こちらも震災の津波に襲われた場所のひとつでした。行った当時、震災の面影があまり感じられませんでした。現地の方々が親切でした。
コロナが収まったら気仙沼にも足を運んでみたいと思います。
幾度も大阪、尼崎からピストン輸送し当時の痛々しい姿を目の当たりにしました。今の復興し続ける姿が見れて涙が出ます。亡くなられた方々のご冥福を！今も頑張っておられる方々これからも心強く！そして阪神大震災当時多大な援助有り難う御座いました！

I am so glad the Torii gate remained standing. I am amazed at how high the water rose. It is disheartening that the tall cement wall must be built and destroy the view, but it is much better than a repeat of such an event. The Japanese people must take pride in their accomplishment of returning the areas destroyed to near normalcy in just 10 years. Sad, but also happy. Thank you for sharing with us.
