I haven't even watched the whole video, but I have to comment that the black book of Rebecca looks def better than the white on. 🤩 More thrillery vibes, if it makes sense. 😄

Rebecca is one of my favorite books of all time. After you read it, you might want to watch the movie - made in 1940. A classic movie from a classic book. Excited to find out how you like all your new books. ❤

Rebecca is one of my all time favourite movies (I am 62). The lady who plays the housekeeper is downright chilling. I recommend the original movie that is in black and white only. The remake from around 2020 or 2022 is AWFUL. I’ve never read the book, but have fond memories of watching the movie with my mom. You will love this Gothic classic, for sure. ❤❤❤

Yes, mine too. I went to one of my mom's book club meetings, and they were reading Rebecca. Loved it! Yes, and watch the movie, too! Fern, please tell us what you think of it after you read it.

Hmmm i disagree, I think a gift given with conditions is not a gift. I personally declutter my space alot because i stay in a small apartment, and I simply cant keep everything. The pressure to hold onto things that I'm essentially paying rent for, is stressful to me

@@lilmissbeats to each there own. I'd never ask for something then get rid of it because I already bought myself a copy, I'd get rid of the copy I bought out of respect for the person who spent their money on it for me.

I actually agree with both of these comments. Just because someone has gifted you something doesn't mean you have to keep it forever, BUT if you are on the fence, you may as well keep the gifted copy. If you've not read the other copy at all, you might be able to take it back to the store for store credit?

I adore magic realism have read many books starting from Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude so anything in that genre intrigues me as well as your picks for retelling of Greek mythology. I am so thrilled you with your picks particularly Shark

What an amazing selection of books! I am so excited that you have Rebecca to read. Daphne Du Maurier is one of my favourite authors and Rebecca is one of my favourite books of hers. I am from Cornwall in the UK where she lived most of her life and that a lot of her books are set in. There is a small museum dedicated to her at The Jamaica Inn, a remote historic smuggling and coaching in on Bodmin moor which another of her most famous and best books is based on. You can see her typewriter that she used for her books, letters, photos and other items from her life. ❤

..Soooo, I am extremely curious for you to read Paula Hawkins’ Into The Water… I’m not saying it’s the best book you’ll ever read or anything but it’s definitely one of those quick reads that you get sucked into!!! I loved it 🫶🏼
Hahaha when I was at Target last I saw Colleen Hoover’s Verity, it was the last hardcover copy with the fancy/fun exclusive new chapter and I snatched it off the shelf and was like you’re coming home with me book!!!

I'm a little late to the video but The Southern Book Clubs Guide to Slaying Vampires was my first Grady Hendrix novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you're interested in different mythologies, I'm currently reading The Shadow of The Gods- It's based around Norse mythology, and the first in a trilogy. So good so far.
I wasn't that impressed with Daisy Jones and The Six. It was alright, but I don't see myself re-reading it.

Darcy Coates “The Carrow Haunt” has a similar setting to “The only one left” by Riley Sager. Stories are different but it’s a great spooky/horror/thriller! Ironically I borrowed this book from my local library and am also looking to get a physical copy for myself 😂
Grady Hendrix how to sell a haunted house is amazing! That book gave me a nightmare while reading it, that’s how you know it’s good. Ignore the negative reviews on that one, the book is very entertaining!

Hey Fern! If you want a good book to give you a top line on Greek mythology I’d highly recommend ’Mythos’ by Stephen Fry. It runs through a lot of the tales and myths but written in a more story like manor rather than academic! They just came out with a beautiful illustrated version too ❤

The southern book club book was a flop to me, like the base plot was ok, but there was so much like white savior plot to it and the POC characters were so shallow I was really disappointed, also there’s themes of pëd0philia and SA that was not handled appropriately and descriptions of younger bodies that just made me want to vomit, I’m curious to hear what you think tho

Oh my gosh, after you read Little Lives, you have to start the Elena Ferrante 4-book series My Brilliant Friend. It’s a journey between these 2 girls lives who start out as kids and follows them through their adulthood-all their traumatic situations growing up in 1960s Naples, Italy. The decisions they make have you yelling at the book I swear! It’s coming of age of 2 girls who start out in seemingly similar lives, but then things happen that drastically alter the course of where they end up and then their choices keep undoing things, but sometimes for the best and other times for the worst. SO GOOD! There’s an HBO series of the books, but read them first!

From your reading updates to you sharing the premises and how these make you feel (either before or after reading)… it kindled something in me, and now I’m reading like I never have before.
