I like this technique because there is no mixing with a carrier. It is good you emphasized safe use. I used a variation of it a couple of years ago to kill a large autumn olive tree in our woods which is an invasive here in the Mid-Atlantic USA. I drill several approximately 1 inch holes per trunk with a 3/8" bit several inches apart and will refill a couple of times using Roundup Super Concentrate (50% glyphosate) applied with a plastic syringe. Doing three more now, started a couple of weeks ago in late April and clearly seeing effects. I prefer large specimens of this particular tree species to be completely dead with no leaves before cutting down and replacing with natives in late summer/early fall. We discovered dozens of sapling size autumn olives had infiltrated our small meadow when we moved in, no doubt as a result of the large ones in the nearby woods border. I just cut off and apply the herbicide to the sapling cut stems.

I then used some from a fresh jug and BAM, those trees were completely brown in no time!! I emailed the company and they said the shelf life is around 5yrs.
I did this before I even looked online to see if it was a thing. I used a regular, thick drill but and drilled 4 downward holes on one side of a black walnut tree and used a dropper to fill the holes with 50% concentrate. After I did it, I was like, let me look online to see if it was a thing lol. And sure enough, hit after hit came back. Your video was listed first I believe. Anyway, within 5 or 6 days after I did it, the side of the tree I did it on was nearly totally defoliated. But the other side of the tree still looks almost normal save for a slight bit of wilting. So will that side of the tree eventually catch up to the other, or will I have to do it on that side of the tree as well? I'd prefer not having to do the other side of possible.
It should kill the other side also.. Just have to be patient.. Mine took 2 months to fully die out.. Limbs have long since fallen off but trunk is still standing 4 years later..
I used Glyphosate -71% on Neem tree (hack and squirt method) when the tree was shedding leaves before spring. It was a complete failure. I used it on my neighbors tree because its leaves, branches, flowers were causing nuisance. They did nothing to reduce my discomfort. Now after a month new leaves have grown in all over its branches.
Ive done this for years...it works. Its a bit quicker using a 60 cc syringe to draw up the round up......and go buy a long IV needle at a farm store 6 " inches long.... dull the point so you dont poke yourself.....put the needle the full depth into the hole.....otherwise the remaining air in the hole wont allow the Round Up to enter. In larger trees.....say up to 3 ft diameter I will drill three holes evenly spaced around the tree. Allows for a quicker result.......death ! For smaller trees....consider " Pathfinder II " Its a basal treatment 100% effective....also works on multi-floral rose !

hello! thanks for the helpful video! quick question - I'd like to use this method to kill a maple tree discretely. I'm looking to do it in the last week in November in Canada. I'm wondering if I time it as such, when it comes spring, will it grow any leaves on the branches? Or will the branches grow these "red/copper" colored leaves indicating that it's been poisoned? Thank you and pray that you answer as I am a little anxious how it's going to turn out.

Just tried this method on my Royal Empress tree. Using 50.2% glyphosate. Used a 1/2 drill bit, drilled several holes around the base of the trunk about 5 inches in depth. Shall see if this method works.
I believe I have been successful. It has not produced any new foliage. The ones that tried to sprout have turned brown. Will wait untill fall to cut down to make sure it is completely dead.
So update on my Royal Empress tree. This tree is a beast to kill. Very resilient. I have not completely killed those tree. On that note, the holes that I have drilled and filled with 50.2% glyphosate looks like it has destroyed that portion of the tree. I was curious as to why I was still getting sprouts in my yard. Well today I pulled some bark away from some of the dead spots and to my surprise this thing is still kicking. So I will be drilling holes all around the tree and filling it with the kill juice.
Thanks for the tip. I intend to use your method on an out of place tree in my bakyard. What worries me is the danger of a large dead tree standing, ready to fall and hurt someone. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the video, really good. But i think trees die quicker if it is done ( drilling ) between october and february when the sap is not rising. Thanks again.

Fall is best from what I've read because that's when the tree is going into dormant mode and sending more nutrients to the roots.. But I've done this twice once in April and once in May and it worked each time.. This is the other video: ua-cam.com/video/k0gZFmSJR2Q/v-deo.html
That's your choice.. I'm letting mine just naturally fall little by little.. It's a few hundred feet from my house so there's no danger in doing it that way..
from what i've read the best time is winter when tree is sending nutrients to its roots.. which means now, early February, should work.. but in the video i did this in late may and it worked also .. so it may work any time of the year..

I hope I haven't poisoned the surrounding ground ... holy shit I feel a bit nauseas ... do you think I have poisoned the surrounding area of the stumps? I have poisoned those ornamental cherry trees.
Yes.. It took 1.5 years for the limbs to fall and even now (5 years later) most of the trunk still stands.. This is follow up video: ua-cam.com/video/4bp4nTYHDDA/v-deo.html
If you don’t like the appearance of a tree with a broken top, I’d imagine you’d like the appearance of a dead tree with a broken top, so why not cut it down. I imagine you will but you made no mention of your intent to do that. I would have cut down first then do the drilling and glyphosate injection afterwards, if I was concerned about it bouncing back or the whole purpose was what the roots were a nuisance to property. Just curious.
No way to drop this tree without damaging the many desirable Camellia plants that surround it.. Tree also provided too much shade for them.. Limbs have long since fallen.. Only thing left is trunk which I plan to let fall as it will..
I have a large pine tree. I think the diameter is just over 1 meter. Will this kill the tree? Also, will the herbicide ruin the soil? I have other plants around the tree that I don't want to harm.
It should, yes.. But your tree is much larger than the one I killed.. So you might want to drill/fill multiple holes.. The tree I killed had camellias all around it at the base and they were not harmed..
In March 2003 I used 15 ml for 30 yrs old conifer (3 holes x 5 ml). He was gone in 2 yrs. In September 2024 I used glyphosate made in 2003. Two trees 40 and 70 yrs old. Only 6 ml per tree. I predict they will be gone in a couple years. No need to hurry up. I love trees, but these destroying my and neighbor roof. And garden owner, crazy man, forbid even touch these trees.

If the tree is 12 inches across drill at least 6 or 7 inches, drill into center of tree AN it will kill any tree or bush, it is safe to use for sure kill add a couple of times.
The tree takes up nutrients from the outer edge of the tree " the bark " . Best to keep the holes shallow..... the depth only allows for a reserve of chemical. The tree takes up very few nutrients from the inside. However.......it still does. Just much slower !

fall/winter is actually a better time to try this from what I've read.. when the tree is sending energy (sap) to the roots and not to leaves/branches.. that sap carries the glyphosate.. by spring should be dead or dying tree..

Use fresh glyphosate!!! I first used some from a 5 yr old jug that I had got a deal on. The trees were only half dying after several treatments. I then used some from a fresh jug and BAM, those trees were completely brown in no time!! I emailed the company and they said the shelf life is around 5yrs.
Good to know.. Thanks for the info..
Experts say you should do this in fall/winter. Reason is spring/summer liquid flows upward while fall it goes downward to the roots and kills them
I did this before I even looked online to see if it was a thing.
So the method in this vid didn't work for you?
Got it.. Thanks for the tips..
Have you a email? Thanks.
If I use this method on my large rubber tree on my empty lot, will it also kill the roots deep down in the ground?
I have a tree of heaven infestation and I was thinking about doing the drill+41% glyphosphate method. I'm happy to see that it works. This is awesome!

hello! thanks for the helpful video! quick question - I'd like to use this method to kill a maple tree discretely.
Don't know for sure but I would think it would die out over the winter and not produce any leaves in spring..
Remember to follow label directions. This technique probably is not on the label being that the container says “grass & weed killer”. Glad your using PPE.
We have a massive trees in neighbours garden.
How many holes do I have to drill?also the depth of the hole since its a huge tree.
YOU don't have a massive tree. Your neighbour's do. leave it alone.
How’s the inside of the tree if cut down? Is it still the same color as it if would’ve died naturally?
Same colour.
Thanks this actually works I done it to two cottonwood trees works great.

I’ve got a 100 year old large tree in my garden despite the tree being old and prefers g to preserve it it’s doing more damage financial wise then worth it to save the tree It’s destroying all my garden fencing causing me thousands a year to fix and killing my lawn blocking the sunlight not to mention when it’s autumn all the leaves that pile up in my garden here in the uk we have laws that protect these trees the council here in the uk got laws to protect the tree but im willing to take the risk of a fine at this point still be cheaper than the amount it will cost me over the next couple years to maintain the damage it’s causing I’ll plant 2 new small trees in it’s place because this tree is round 5 times thicker than the 1 in the video would I need to use more of this product?
I'm honestly not sure.. 1oz (29.57ml) has worked for me twice.. Second time killing much larger pine tree.. Link to that video is below.. Just be careful about the limbs eventually falling because they will.. And the trunk of the tree killed in this video is still standing 5 years later.. ua-cam.com/video/k0gZFmSJR2Q/v-deo.html
You still have to cut it down to remove any “widow makers”, so why not cut it down & drill several holes & apply the liquid tree killer?
Just tried this method on my Royal Empress tree. Using 50.2% glyphosate. Used a 1/2 drill bit, drilled several holes around the base of the trunk about 5 inches in depth. Shall see if this method works.
Update?
I agree..

Is this method is usefull for coconut trees??
I use the same method with one exception I drill a hole in the base of the tree or into a root if possible. The tree is dead in a week. I dont even use an oz I think that is alot of concentrate.
