Hey mate, I have to tell you something. I saw you that day in Erfurt with you camera (I still have date and time) on the Krämerbrücke and initially thought about trying to talk to you. Sadly I was there with my class and we moved on that moment, so I kind of wasted / lost my chance. You can actually see me and some other students at 1:30 in front of the green house. There is a guy with a white shirt and a black bag and behind him with the green backpack and also a white shirt, thats me. I achtually was born in Erfurt, but my family moved away when i was only 2 years old, so beeing there makes me happy every time. Also, i want to thank you for your videos, which are always very enjoyable to watch. I really like to see you perspective concerning germany as somebody who was not born here. Keep up your good work and if you read this, please do not be upset about possibly made mistakes, because english is not my first language. ;-) EDIT: How long (in hours) did it take you to make this video, so filming, research, recording the voice and editing?

I like that some footages were shot at dusk when the lights are illuminating those beautiful buildings. I thing some nice blue hour / evening shots could certainly help in future destination videos.
The Erfurt Bridge is not the only bridge of this kind in Europe. Ponte Vechio from Frorence, Italy and is mentioned from year 999 and since 1333 is like we see it today. Ponte Vechio it's also a bridge that has fashion stores, watchmakers and jewelers.

Glad you finally got to the KiKa characters, my son had fun discovering them! On the topic of religion, you missed out on the Alte Synagoge. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures inside. Another location in Erfurt we discovered through a friend is the EGA (Erfurt Garten Austellung). The grounds are magnificent, and our son had a wonderful time on probably the best and largest playground I have ever seen. Meanwhile, I was in the process of catching a cold. I would definitely visit Erfurt again, there are many things we didn't get around to doing.
Erfurt and Eisenach are some decent destinations to visit in Thuringia, but i've got a feeling, that you've been missing out on a quite obvious city in that area...

As someone that grew up at the very border of those two dioceses, I am well aware of that. I was just referencing the same in-joke rewboss did at the beginning of the video...
There is a difference between the ecclesiastical diocese and the secular property (Erzstift) of the Bishop, which they ruled as princes among others in the empire. The Diocese of Mainz was huge but the secular property (Kurmainz) was rather small. Erfurt was in fact an isolated exclave of it.

One question, however: How in the world came they to want to remove the renaissance balcony from that church? I mean, it's not some 20th century ugly sort of thing, but part of its history. I hope they'll think that one over.
It's not a 20th century ugly sort of thing, but it is a 16th century ugly sort of thing. There is always this kind of discussion when restoring something to its historical state: which particular part of history are you returning it to? The thing about those balconies is that they really do look out of place, and they are built across windows. This very much ruins the effect the architects of the original church were going for, and it makes the whole church interior a lot darker than it should be. Gothic hall churches are supposed to soar to the heavens. Also, with dwindling church congregations, the balconies aren't used any more, so they serve no real purpose. It's a tough decision for sure, but removing them would certainly make the church lighter and a bit less... well, claustrophobic.

that's not my point. MLK was named after ML, but the us-americans pronounce it differently. rewboss pronounces names of buildings, towns, and so on in english, when there is an english way to pronounce it. so, i wonder if it's a british thing with luther's name or not.
I pronounced it the German way, since Luther was German. Martin Luther King was American, and while he was named after the German, his name was anglicised -- a perfectly natural thing to do. Similarly, the Rothschild family anglicised the pronunciation of their name when they came to the UK -- in German, the name is pronounced so completely differently it's barely recognisable. So I use the German pronunciation for the German Reformer, but the Anglo-American pronunciation for the American civil rights leader. Incidentally, I don't know who you were talking to (it seems they deleted their comments), but for most of the sights I translate the names -- "city hall" for "Rathaus", for example. Those aren't people's names, so they're treated differently. Sometimes they can't be translated: for example, "Anger", which I am careful to pronounce the German way and not like the English word "anger".

You should visit us again. Much has changed since 2017. Especially the Petersberg Citadel recieved a lot of attention and care and the city invested a lot of money because they hosted the Bundesgartenschau in 2021. I always loved Erfurt, but with all the investment in recent years I love it even more.

I lived 10 years in Erfurt, truly a hidden gem. I always enjoyed walking thru the city enjoying the amazing architecture.
