So glad to watch you do this. Many years ago, when I had no idea what I was doing, I made the exact same repair on a McCulloch 10-10. I did it exactly the way you just did, blissfully ignorant but very hopeful! That was one of my lucky repairs, lol!
That’s a real nice, very professional job! Attention to detail, hard to find these days! Dealers just want to sell you a new saw! Thanks for showing us a great example of great work ethic!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
29 years logging it all about the chain.we learn how sharpen or be out of buisness..I have mild porting that helps also.but don't help if chains dull.lol.good job on the tank repair.
Liked, "everything that could rattle loose, can and will". Ha ha! I got many of my Mac go-kart racing engine 'spare parts' by just walking the track after a race back in the day. :)
Craig N Ah prairie winters, Tinman I spent a bunch of years as a field mechanic, engines and transmissions in the Alberta oil patch. I called this minus weather incentive, to get the job done and get back inside where its warm. Great chanel
I had to use Kreem on a 90s Harley I had. Ethanol gas ate the existing liner up and it was just floating around in the tank. Another tip on stuck screws in areas you can't heat is to take a cheapo screwdriver bit and heat it cherry red with a torch. Stick it back on the screw and just let it transfer heat through the screw. It works well on stuff like steel screws in aluminum.
Well at the moment here in Oakland's NSW Australia our temperature is at 21c at 6-02am on a Tuesday morning and a great video on how to get around repairing fuel tanks of old chainsaw and very enjoyable Tinman.

You would like messing with the bike motors! Check out Vessel impact screwdrivers. Super nice and they work just like the old style hammer impacts we have been using since the beginning of time.
Hey Tinman, Ironhorse was talking about Q-Bond as a fantastic fixing agent for metal. Just a thought.. We had your cold weather last week and was followed by this uncommon warm winter season. Stay safe TM..
Nice work Tinman. I've got a CP55 which leaks like that. I don't know if I can just buy a replacement gasket for the 10-series and it would fit...? Or if I better try to do like you did here, cut my own gasket. In which case, what was the gasket size/thickness?
Just did a tank using motoseal 1 on a 10 10. My motoseal is pretty runny, and I'm not sure I got enough squish on my homemade cork gasket. Made a separate gasket like original for the carb area. How thick do you try to get the motoseal to lay on there? I did fill the groove before putting the gasket in and smeared what I could on the top side....we'll see if she leaks.
Hey get your old lady a Cricut Machine and then when it comes time for gaskets you can make any gasket you want in the world I turned my old ladies Hobby To fix My hobby problems..lol
I have been wondering about how I could use one of those contraptions to cut difficult gaskets. I have been using one of those cheap CNC engravers you buy as a kit to cut gaskets lately with some success. My issue is that if you only need one gasket, it takes longer to draw and convert to g--code than it does to make the gasket the old fashioned way with punches and scissors. I take a picture of the gasket surface, import it as a jpeg, outline it with tools, resize the drawing, then slice and convert to g--code. I then send it to the mini milling machine. I hold the gasket material on a sheet of high density insulation foam board with spray on contact adhesive. That works good. Those Cricut sticky cutting mats might work better. How do you go about the process with a Cricut to get the correct size gasket?
I always put tape on the airbox side and fill the fuel grommet hole with jb weld and drill a new hole that you can pull your fuel line through so you can use Tygon it's worth the trouble I haven't had much luck with those replacement OEM style lines thay always leak
hi.same heir, when a was younger the could weither was no problem.it was not feeling so could.now aim freezing when its could outside.its funny how it was ,no need for mutch winter clouthes in old times.
I have a 10x12 shed insulated and I have a box wood stove. (The ones that sell for around 200 250$ ). It does pretty good It’s 0 out and it’s not 62 in here after 2 hours
I don’t think the anti vibe saw tanks are made to come apart, I believe they are epoxied together, best thing I have found to use on them is POR15 fuel tank liner
Impact driver is a guys best friend breaking those flathead screws.. would you mind going over what mods you did to the intake exhaust and transfers on that unit please?
Hey Tinman how do you get on replacing the cork gaskets on the likes of the mac 1010 I know you can buy gaskets off eBay but is there another way? cheers
Mechanics of the world unite in there hate for abused flat heads. Leons chainsaws(UA-cam) uses Red Coat on a bunch of old Homelite tanks. -37 in your world and +37 degrees in mine, 74 degrees C difference. That's crazy. Good vid mate, I'm interested in angles an equipment you use for sharpening. Cheers from Tassie.
Nice one again. On the point of old(er) saws. With a new purchase and you kind of get it to run. Would you say that it's best to do the carbs and lines just to rule them out?
@@tinmanssaws But seals means pulling the cilinder and splitting the cases right? Because what I've seen on saws is you can't change them from the outside.
I'm down in Alabama, and I don't have any idea what the difference is between summer and winter chains. It's a frigid day here today with a high of 43°F and windy.

@@timhart2652 I guess don’t understand either. I thought he indicated he ground his chains differently for summer and winter cutting. Anyway I’m clueless what was meant. I just an old duffer who cuts firewood for my own use. Thanks for your response.
Yeah like here in Michigan in the winter time when the wood freeze especially maple That 25 degree will work better than a 30 cuz a point on the Chain will stay sharp longer instead of cutting and Frozen wood and bending them over So we do have a summer grind and dry wood grind and a winter grind It just stay sharp longer on what your angle is
@@timhart2652 Thanks Tim. That makes sense to me now. Here in south central Nebraska I’m no aware of any hard maple. I think what we’ve got is silver leaf maple. It pretty soft and not very good firewood as it doesn’t give out much heat. I mostly burn ash and it’s plentiful and makes a great fire. Thanks for your info!
