Welcome to renting in Australia!! So pleased you got your bond back. One of the lucky ones! The handling of rental bonds by agents I feel borders at times on criminal. We saw so much in QLD. Agents would call their own known contractors, for example, tidy a garden, if the tenant was unable to return to the property to do themselves. What a surprise when this cost a fortune and a tenant lost most of their bond. Seldom even if a tenant disputed it would they win over the agents word. I worked doing rental move out cleans. Nightmare!! Never , ever good enough as would point to the most pathetic things to justify deducting from a bond. Great idea to take video as this is what we always advised people to do. Breathe and relax now!! Love xx❤❤❤
@@kimberleylucas no doubt you did Kimberly .It's definitely no reflection on you. A Japanese family we knew unfairly lost most of their bond. They took up the offer of the agents to call in contractors to' finish' the jobs. I knew the state of their rental and this was ludicrous as they kept it spotless. Took near 2000 from them. We tried to help with appealing but got nowhere. Really needs more regulating so agents don't have such power. Many friends we knew suffered anxiety as to how much they would be left with. Hope you are able now to settle happily in your new home. Moving anyway is such an ordeal. You will certainly have a warmer Christmas ⛄ than in the UK lol. Getting cooler here now and the Christmas jumpers will soon be appearing! ⛄⛄Take care love x
That's why we have a Rental Bond Board - a third party - an agent cannot take your bond without your signature, and they need to provide evidence too and wait!
This happened to us when we rented in Brisbane back in 2016. Our landlords wanted us to use a cleaning company that they recommended. We decided to do it ourselves as the cleaning company were going to cost more than our bond being returned to us. We spent 3 days excessively cleaning. In the end the pulled us up on things such as dust on top of the light switches and topside of the ceiling fans 🙈. Because of this, they refused to return our $2000 bond. We'd returned to UK so we couldn't dispute this and lost the lot. We still talk about how ridiculous it was. It was a lose lose situation for us as we would've either spent $2000 on a cleaning company or lose our bond. For context, we were a household of 2, that are very clean tidy people. The system is very unreasonable and takes advantage of people in our situation.
Yep, we had to get a professional cleaner in as part of our contract and im glad we did as all we did was send the receipt in to show it was done. Always document everything when you first move in and send them it!
To clean glass use steel wool grade 0000. You can get this down at bunnings. Also a fresh clean razor blade can scrape off anything stuck on the glass. Also the steel wool can clean stailess steel sinks easily and aluminium like the window and door seals.
G'day Kimbo. You have to be very very careful of these people. They will try anything to get out of repaying any monies at all. One time i was renting in the Capital and i was subject to a Property Management inspection every couple of months. I was presented with a report that i had to remove a filthy MT coke can from my glass lounge room table or be turfed out. I took time of work for the next inspection. The person walked into my appt as though i wasn't there, didn't look at ONE thing but immediately went straight to the table with the coke can and gloated that i was to be immediatey presented with an eviction notice for disobeying a previously written inspection report. You should have seen the hags face when i pointed out that the ' Filthy Empty can was indeed a MONEY BOX. I could name the prop management Co, but, i won't. Oh, she stormed out the door, NEVER to return. No letter of apology of course. P.S. that was her only complaint. The B. ❤❤❤❤. Keep your ed up mate, you Will overcome.
That's definitely an excessive list of defaults, it really isn't fair! I always have the carpets cleaned professionally and hire cleaners after I have moved! I always keep all receipts, and always take photos of every tiny thing! As I have allergies, I used to clean when I moved in too, and everything was always dust and mould free! Leave things cleaner than when you moved in is my motto! This stress was because extra agent fees had to be paid for reletting!? Good luck with the new one! 👍
It really made me feel like I wasn't a clean person, I hated it. They just want to use you as a professional cleaner instead of them paying to have it done for the next tenants, it's not right!
@@kimberleylucas Yes, it's really insulting especially when you obviously do care! I agree, some prefer less work for them and need more praise for appearing to do their job! It's over now, and we know how meticulous you are, relax now and enjoy decorating the new house! 🤗
Hi Kimberley, My Daughter and I have recently found your channel. Welcome to Sydney. I am from London myself. Your experience with your final inspection is no surprise to us. My Daughter is renting and I have rented years ago. Every rental we have vacated and left clean and tidy we have had to go back and fix something else. I think they do it just to be difficult and because they can it’s unrealistic really. My Sister was also a renter and she is the queen of clean and she was picked on which we could not believe. They are very unreasonable here they expect you to have lived in it but not actually lived in it or used it. I don’t like Aust myself for lots of reasonsI I wish you good luck with your move here. Scotland is lovely by the way. My Niece moved from Sydney to Edinburgh she loves it and never coming back here.
Hello! sorry im just replying now! Its so awful, they must make so much money from people. Theres only so many pictures and videos you can take of proof and you shouldnt have to do this at all! I'm glad your niece loves Edinburgh - its my favourite City for sure :) miss it!!
I went through something similar it’s a nightmare! Managed to get all my bond back and most definitely left the property far cleaner than when we moved in. There is a cream cleaner specifically for glass hobs. I use Astonish back here in the UK it’s really good. I’m sure there must be something similar over there.
its so sad to read how common it is. they really shouldn't get away with it! my husband bought the cream cleaner and nothing seemed to work, because the actual paint/markings had come away and they somehow wanted that to reappear! haha
I apoligize for the behaviour of these people . There is good and bad here, and that lot are the worse people in the country, real Estate Agents are like car salesmen and politicians, they are not your friend.
Im furious for you!!! Theyve gone totally over the top. I worked in rental management for 16 years but in the UK, and ive also rented my own houses for 20 years. Always take pictures before you move in anywhere, and take them the day you move out keep any receipts for cleaning etc so yoi have a file at hand for instances like this again. Pay your water bill now and then completely forget about the ridiculous carry on!!! Get back to enjoying your time with the kids. X

It's shocking what they get away with. We definitely handed that house back way more cleaner than we received it! It's really bad

Omg i’m totally going to be taking pictures of everything before we move in! Sorry you had to deal with this but you handled it like a boss! xx
Thank you. Yes absolutely EVERYTHING!! 😅

I've learnt that the hard way unfortunately. At least I know now for our new house. Just crazy!
Lucky You And was a obediant boy and put the paper work in as he was ordered/instructed to do. Proud of you You And. You are a good Lud mate. 😊😊😊😊
Hi Kim, , did you say 'it's 6 and two seas or Cs' or something ....
What is that .? 😊

It was completely unnecessary in my opinion. They have you cornered as they have your bond that you obviously want back. It's not right
