Bought mine new in 2014 for a long trip, stellar performance. Shutter died on me on another trip in 2017, Olympus replaced it for a pittance (labour, they picked up the parts) because "it shouldn't have happened". :-) Been largely replaced with the EM1x and the OM1, but it continues in use for time-lapse and as a back-up. Been using Olympus since 1973...came for the compactness, stayed for the lenses.
I was given a 12 megapixel Panasonic GF 1 with 20mm lens two years ago. I was so impressed with the images that I considered replacing my 30 megapixel FF DSLR with the M43 mirrorless system To test that idea and to meet my needs further I would require a rugged system that had to have a view finder. Enter the EM-1 at $300 CAD with a 14-42 kit lens, along with the 20 mm Panasonic lens from the GF 1. I was very impressed. I loved the ergonomics. The flippy screen was excellent. It all just worked. I sold the EM1 and Canon gear and I purchased an EM1 Mk III. I’ve since added six lenses, a mix of PRO and premium glass. I love this set up as it really suits my needs. My only real regret is selling off the original EM1 and not keeping it as a backup. When out shooting, 80-90% of the time I too prefer the flippy screen over the fully articulated screen, although the convenience of the articulation when shooting vertically is nice. In my opinion, M43 is highly under rated. Most camera buyers should really give it a try before slamming the System. I think they would be shocked at how really good it is. All systems have their advantages and disadvantages. But when you look at each system there is a good balance of give and take between them.
Hi Robin I'm Julian from Cordoba Spain Olympus user for many years I have almost all the analog OMs and also the digital ones up to OMD_EM1 and I continue to use it for me it is one of the best cameras in History, greetings I follow you and I like the enthusiasm you put in your videos.
I will never sell mine. Love how it renders with vintage glass, love how it feels in the hand, love the door locks and the little switch for changing focus modes. I always feel glad for anyone else who has one! Cheers from New Zealand.
Hi Robin my wife and I have the same em1 originals and they are great Kameras for us hobby photographers they are perfect. Love all your work and I never miss any videos you make, keep them coming. 👍👍👍👍
If y you are a stills shooter you could buy a used EM1/3 and a used kit lens or buy a used EM1/1 and a used 12-40 pro lens for around the same cost or less. I’d go for the mk1 and pro lens everytime
Robin, agree 100%. Still love the feel of my EM1 best of all. Still remember the first time I picked it up and get that same feeling every time I take it out. Find it hard to grab it over my EM1 Mii but still love it. Would recomend to anyone even today.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have two copies which I still use for pleasure , one with the battery grip attached, which makes for a very tactile and fun camera to use. I have later EM1 models too, including versions 2 & 3, plus X, but the original is an excellent performer, and a joy to use. The shutter has a 'harder' sound than the later models, but is reassuring and very positive. Unfortunately, the original EM1 is the only Olympus that I've had to send for repairs, but once it was seen to, it has performed without problems, hence the reason why a bought a second copy, like new, for very little money. They are a bargain on the second-hand market (UK).
Hi Robin, Great overview of the OM-D E-M-1 Original and your experiences using the camera. Your shots of the celebration were incredible - further proof that this camera is still relevant today. Thank you, great job! Looking to get one in good condition for my Daughter as a Beginner Camera. :)
After seeing this video and reading the comments below. I don't feel as guilty for having an EM-1, EM-1 Mk3, and a EM10-Mk4 along with a bunch of Olympus lenses. Thanks for lifting my guilt! 🤣
I really have to agree with you Robin about the EM1. It’s still one of my favourite cameras ever and although I cannot prove it with specifications I feel the image quality and colour output from this 16Mp sensor is better than my mk2, it’s just a personal feeling but I get more smile factor looking at my mk1 output
That is exactly what I intended to comment - I have used different 16MP and 20 MP Olympus cameras and I cannot help myself, I like the look of the 16 MP pictures better, at least for the photographs I usually take - no crazy high ISOs, no dramatic pulling of shadows etc. I just find those pictures to be somewhat cleaner, more vibrant, more pleasing. Must try E-M1 :-)
The newer 20MP image sensor does give better high ISO and dynamic range, about one stop improvement. If you are not shooting in challenging situations the 16MP sensor is sufficient of course.
Thank you, Robin, for all your awesome videos. I use my E-M1 all the time, I love it. I also have an E-M10mk2 but I haven't used it much since getting the E-M1. I bought the 12-40 pro lens because of a video you made several years ago saying how good it is and you were soooo right. Thanks again.
I use my EM-10 and its tilt screen for street photography. It has 3 advantages. 1) the tilt screen. 2) the size 3) the grain monochrome art filter. It make stunning pictures even with the 16 MP sensor. It’s the best. I find the 14-42 pancake lens is fantastic for this purpose.
I bought a used one of these around 2 years ago as my first camera that wasn’t a cheap point and shoot. It’s been more than enough for what I want it for. Which is mostly taking photos of birds. I can see it lasting another 10 years honestly.
Hello Robin I brought on used few days ago and I love it now going to get mark 2 I love Olympus Have many others I always go back to Olympus have a soft spot
I shoot for fun and love wild life photography... but i struggle with events and portraits (basically anything with artificial lighting). I enjoy all your videos Robin. Lots of very helpful OMD tips! Wish I had more time to shoot and learn but your videos have helped alot. Thank you!
A beautiful,, well-loved camera to be sure. Reminds me so much of my Nikon FMs from my film days... it was almost an extension of your hand. You knew what you were going to get from it and where all the controls were without even looking. You used that keyword several times in your video.."confidence". I've held one of these but never owned one and I agree the size is very very perfect.. just like holding the OM1 and OM2 film cameras back in the day. I wholeheartedly agree with you that this would be a wonderful gateway camera for somebody starting out into micro 4/3 and I'm sure they would keep theirs just like you've hung on to yours despite whatever newer models you move into. Perfect reminder to all of us that you don't need the latest and greatest to make great photographs. Thanks Robin!!
The confidence part was about me "getting the shot", somehow, E-M1 was the first mirrorless camera that gave me that confidence, and convinced me to switch fully to mirrorless from DSLR!
Bought my used Mk1 after my Mk2 as a low cost workhorse and back up. ! absolutely love it and use it a lot. Even though I now have an OM-1 the E-M1 is my preferred tool for the mountains. A little bit smaller and lighter, I'm still pleased with the images. Since it only cost me £200 I'm a lot less stressed about using it in challenging places and conditions.
To me, the real game changer was the original E-M5. It was the first professional grade m4/3's camera from Olympus. I had two with grips and shot a lot of professional corporate conference work, portraits, and a few weddings. My wife still uses one of those original bodies and loves it -- she still gets amazing quality images with it. I upgrades eventually to the E-M1 and used two of those with grips for my professional work and personal shooting as well. I still have one of those bodies and will use it if I really need a small, lightweight set up. Robin, you are 100% right about the tilting LCD screen -- it really adds speed to shooting wedding and event photography. Unless someone shoots these types of events professionally, they would probably not understand. I still prefer shooting with battery grips, but even with the grip the E-M1 is a small form factor.
Totally agree - I have my original E-M1 and also the E-M1 Mk II. I use the Mk II hi-res mode to photograph artwork, but for just going out shooting (or shutter therapy as you call it), I still greatly favor the original. As you say, the smaller size and the tilt LCD are two big reasons for me. And as a diehard film shooter still as well, I feel the 16 MP sensor in the original gives me punchier and slightly more film-like images. Thanks for this great video!
Thanks again. I’ve been bouncing between this and an E-M5. I don’t do anything professional so I think this E-M1 mki is my budget solution as it has the firmware updates that added features so I can grow in my hobby. The 12-40 is a beautiful lens but it's almost as much as the camera! 🤣
My family and I lived in KL about 15 years ago, as an expat...working for a multinational. If you love photography, KL is a fantastic location! This video brings back good memories.
It's still my camera... low shutter count but I had some problem of shutter freeze during strong cold winter and big battery drain with normal use, they solve it with much better Mark II. So I still use it during vacation but for other things there are better machines. I agree with the good image quality.
Great video, I totally agree! It is still a great camera. I sold mine a couple of years ago. Now I own an OM-1, love it, but the flippy screen is the reason why I still keep my E-M10 Mark II and the tiny Lumix GF-7.
I shot a Seascape a few years ago With my E-M1 with 75mm at f/2.2 1/20 for second at 500 ISO with no tripod handholding only using image stabilization that’s in the camera and printed canvas print 16 x 20 and nobody asked me what camera I used to take the picture all they said you must have some excellent professional camera.
I remember constantly looking at that camera when I had my em5. Mirrorless was still fairly new, so it's ok, I felt like the ultimate badass with my retro looking em5. My uncles still sporting big cameras were confused on my tiny em5, taking comparable photos to their hand cannon cameras. Those were some good days. Miss them
@@sikoghost6360 I prefer the shots from the em1, I like the tilting screen as opposed to an articulating screen. I just connect better with the MK1 Vs the MK2.
Hi, Robin. Thanks for a wonderful video of one of my favourite camera bodies. It is SO versatile and, like you, I think the tilt screen is just great, as I do not use video a lot. For street photography it is just invaluable. I have a few Olympus bodies and I value the added functions og the newer technologies. But the size and weight is perfect.
Agreed, that tilt screen is just perfect for street! And yes, I like the size and weight of the original E-M1, I wish the mirrorless flagships don't grow so much bigger over time.
Hi Robin -- I share your enthusiasm for the original E-M1. For me, it's the best combination of low cost, high picture quality, and ergonomics out there. I've been purchasing low mileage E-M1 bodies as I find them -- they're out there, not hard to find for less than $300, sometimes way less, which makes them huge bargains for me.
I used my E-M1 for 7 years and loved it. The rear dial became unreliable so I eventually moved to the E-M1X. I always used my E-M1 with a grip and found the 1X only a little larger and heavier. Watching videos like this makes me wonder if we really need all of the upgraded tech the camera makers are constantly pushing at us.
I think you can send in for the rear dial to be fixed, give it a try! And yes, we don't need the latest and greatest if our goal is to enjoy photography.
My first OM-D was the EM-1 loved the camera, I gave it to my friend when I upgraded to the EM-1-III. I agree size and weight just about perfect along with having a the tilt screen. My dream OM-D would an E-M1 with minimum following upgrades. (1) Bigger battery (probably add 20g to its weight) (2) move the right strap lug up to the top plate (3) Add a portrait tilt to the LCD (4) Add the menu refinements from the EM-1-III (My Menu etc.) (5) Better placement of the AEL/AFL button - it is too close to the EVF for us left eye shooters.
Hi Robin, I got my EM1 Mki a couple of years ago ( an addition to the EPL8 and EM10 mkii ). I added the battery grip to it and now use it mainly with my vintage lenses and it just feels right. I also have the EM5 mkiii and EM1 mkii but the Mk1 has a special place in my collection.
I recently got my E-M1 out of the cupboard and have remembered how much I enjoyed it. It always felt great in my hand and easy to use. I’m going to spend a few weeks using it as an everyday camera with the 17mm 1.8. I have the OM-1 but agree that series has got too big and heavy (not to mention too expensive to cart around every day).
One of the things it got right was the flip up screen and was the reason I stuck with the EM 10 Mkii ; another great camera . As a foot note : I dislike the wet and cold ; dust and other climacteric adjustments that deviated from nice pleasant walkabouts when the light is just right for capturing the moment ha ha . I’m retired and don’t go places I once did when I was younger . I still crave a body and lens that will settle my cravings and easy to carry . When that is not possible then my phone will do . Gear is okay ; imagination and creative juices more important .
Hello, I bought the em1 ii 3 years ago and am very happy with it. I haven't been able to try out all the functions yet, so it's perfectly adequate for me. I'd rather invest the money in good lenses or workshops, that will get me a lot further. Thanks for your videos. Greetings Stephan
Hey Robin, I've found your channel two weeks ago and was playing with idea to stop shooting with SONY A-PSC and go for mFT. Your videos helped a lot to understand the pros and cons about this system. And I can totally understand your approach to saving some bucks. Thank you for this content!
It's still a very capable camera and was really well -supported with firmware updates. Mine has a broken HDR button and the rear wheel is unreliable. I just bought the battery pack and used the wheel on it, instead. I have the e-m1 iii, but this is my most loved camera
On my third E-m1, sold the others 2 years ago and eventually regreted it. Recently sold off my E-m10 mkii and used the proceeds to buy my current E-m1, still feels great in hand and is the easiest to get great shots from. I also own a E-m1 mk ii, Sony A6500, A7r ii and A9 but there's something about the E-m1 original that just feels right...
hello robin, thank you very much for your video, after which i bought an omd e-m1 for around 200 dollars today. 👍 looking forward to it. 😆. so good your insta coloured picturs👍, just followed you. thx florian
Aloha Robin... I mostly use the E-M 1 for macro shots. With my Tamron 100mm f2.8 AT-X Pro + adapter, which dates back to Nikon times. And yes, I love the tilt screen. Perfect for street photography with the Sigma 60mm f2.8 or Lumix 25mm f1.7 . Unfortunately my E-M 5 MK3 only has a flip screen. But that works too. Yes, the original E-M1 is still a very good camera. And since I ONLY take photos, it's perfect for me.
I Love ❤️ my Olympus gear, OMD EM5 II, OMD EM1 w/H10 grip, OMD EM1X, quality materials and just works. The M Zuiko lenses 12 f/2, 25 1.8, 17 1.8, 75 1.8, 40-150 2.8 Pro., 12-40 2.8 Pro. I will never sale.
2/5/24 Hi Robin, I own an use the E-M1 which I bought used but new to me in almost new conditions. I like that it i s weather sealed, well built and size. It does take great pictures for my use and has a few more features than my OM-D 10 M2 which is my prefer camera to use. I like that the OM-D 10 M2 which has a better viewfinder and back screen since it came out after the OM-1. I can carry both bodies and shared lenses in a normal size camera bag all day without weighing me down. Buying used Olympic OM-D cameras and using vintage lenses and kit lenses give me amazing sharp photos both in color and B/W. Since switching over from film to digital I find that my photography allows me more time to experiment with types of photography and edit to post process in less time and more results in less time that it took me in my darkroom days, and easier to share my images.
Agree 100%. The original E-M1 is one of those cameras you know will work no matter what conditions you throw at it. The mechanical shutter on my main E-M1 failed a while ago, but it’s still running fine on the electronic shutter. And articulated screens have become a deal-breaker for me.
8-9 months ago I got into the m43 scene with a used E-M1 mk1,still have it,to the point where the only dslr I have is my Fuji S5 pro now for special occasions (those that know about the sensor will know lol ) so I still use my E-M1 as my main camera, does all I need it to do and more.
I have em1 and em5 mark II. Although they are pretty old but still quite powerful for my amateur photography work. Both cameras were exposed to fine sand in Namibia and sudden rain shower in Kuala Lumpur, but thanks to its robustness! the cameras work perfect and show incredible result always. I don't think I will change the cameras until they completely broken.
Robin , my EM1 died about 2.5 years ago /////// I miss it for my urban wild life shooting so much and i paired it with the 75 to 300 ...........what a light weight set up to just grab and go and get so much reach for no weight what so ever /////// Maybe I need to re-acquire this combo as lugging the sigma 150 to 600 and my z50 in summer is not so bad but in the winter with gloves and jacket bulk is a pain in the ass .........
I had one till it died :( You're right about the size. The EP5 convinced me that m43 was more than good enough, the EM1 was just about perfect -- great handling and performance. I have an EM1 II now, but the smaller EM5 II is still my favourite walkaround cam. Forgot about the LCD -- yeah, it's hard to be inconspicous when you flip out the side/twist LCD 😅
I have had my EM1 for many years & although I have some of the newer models I still use the Em1 & prefer the flip up screen since I am a photographer & not a videographer.
Hi Robin, thank you for the excellent review. Can l ask,as you were an Olympus engineer, what the expected life of the rubber weather seals in a camera might be? l think you may have mentioned this topic previously.
What have you done to me Robin? Whenever I am about to start anything, whether cooking dinner, going for a walk in the countryside or whatever else, I start by saying "Let's do this"! Great video, as usual.
Steve Huff promoted the E-M1 a lot as a great build with lots of innovative features. I would have bought one except that the images somehow looked plasticky to me, though the colors wowed. Olympus lenses are always sharp.
I am still using my E-M1 original with my new 60mm f/2.8 macro & 75mm f/1.8 & 45mm f/1.8 the camera has served me well I have found shooting over 1000 ISO image quality For me is not up to snuff, and the continuous autofocus tracking for indoor sports is poor. Otherwise I have found the camera wonderful and very reliable over the years and have shot many events with his camera and nobody has complained about image quality issues. The only one who’s being concerned is me, I generally shoot at 200 & 400 ISO only unless I’m shooting sports such as ice hockey In an ice hockey arena, then I tend to have issues with the camera, that’s generally the only time I have had issues with this reliable camera. Majority of the time has not let me down, Thinking about buying the OM-1 To add to my system, and possibly thinking about getting the pro 300mm f/4 For Bird photography and wildlife phot photography.
This was made in the earlier days of mirrorless camera, so the AF 11 years ago, definitely was not on par. You cannot compare this to newer cameras, or more expensive cameras for example Canon 1D series.
I got a good deal on one recently, gonna arrive in a few days. Suepr casual, noob at photography, but heard alot of good things about them and was too good of a deal to pass up on aha.
I'm still using mine. I totaly agree that images are so good. I just guess why is there so less difference between this image sensor of the one in the new OM1 ?
I managed to find a used one in excellent shape. It looks almost like factory new. With around 9.000 exposures. Looking to pick up a 12-40mm f2.8 pro lens...and I think I'm done. 😀 The whole thing costs me around 650-670 US dollars...with 2 brand new aftermarket spare batteries.
So much comes down to how big our hands are. The only E-M that feels good in my hand is the X. I have a 1 with a battery grip, which makes it tolerable - without that, i get random setting changes. The other problem i have with it is its mass. It doesn't balance heavy glass well - the E-5 and my venerable E-1 are much better at this, although the IQ of the E-M1 is obviously superior. I shot a music gig last week using the E-M1 with a ZD 35-100 f/2 on an adapter and spent the next morning icing my wrist. With those little quibbles aside - yes, still a great and very usable camera.
I always plan on getting one of these for the tilt-screen alone, in doubt against the em10IV because of the new sensor, but the difference in IQ seems so small anyway
I have this same camera with two excellent interchangeable Panasonic and Olympus lenses. I wonder: can this equipment compete with the latest generation phones? (like an iPhone 15, for example)
You have to respect anyone who's worn the paint off the camera replacing lenses. Great patina.
Yeah I think I might have overused the camera
I was thinking the same exact thing
Bought mine new in 2014 for a long trip, stellar performance. Happy to hear you got the shutter replaced for free!
100% nailed it. Most people will not NEED the additional bells and whistles. Great camera!
Thanks. And yes, sometimes, going back to basics makes the difference!
I've owned my E-M1 since 2017. I have no plans to sell or swap it. It's an amazing camera - a powerhouse! 😎 Great video, as always, Robin! 👍
Paul 😎
Thanks Paul, and yes the E-M1 is a powerhouse indeed.
I was given a 12 megapixel Panasonic GF 1 with 20mm lens two years ago. I was so impressed with the images that I considered replacing my 30 megapixel FF DSLR with the M43 mirrorless system

$400 for a used pro 12-100(or 50 I don't remember) zoom is crazy.

... and we should not forget the E-1 (2003). The start of M43 with exchangeable lenses. I own it - I love it too!
I will never sell mine. Love how it renders with vintage glass, love how it feels in the hand, love the door locks and the little switch for changing focus modes. I always feel glad for anyone else who has one! Cheers from New Zealand.
Just did a video on E-1 few weeks ago. Gotta give other cameras a chance!
Hi Robin my wife and I have the same em1 originals and they are great Kameras for us hobby photographers they are perfect. Love all your work and I never miss any videos you make, keep them coming. 👍👍👍👍
I bought mine because of your reviews! And Im so satisfied with the quality, ergonomics,,etc. Really great camera!

Yeah the original E-M1 is definitely great value for money
E-M1 is still an amazing camera and capable. The night photos look great!
Love this dude
I love my EM1 I use it with a Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 and 17mm F1.8 which give me awesome IQ.
Very nice combo
Robin, agree 100%. Still love the feel of my EM1 best of all. Still remember the first time I picked it up and get that same feeling every time I take it out. Find it hard to grab it over my EM1 Mii but still love it. Would recomend to anyone even today.
That is true, there is something special about the original E-M1
I agree about tilt screen. I miss it...
Thank you for this. I just received this exact model from my step dad. Who bought it new in 2014. And your video got me hyped to go out with it!
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have two copies which I still use for pleasure , one with the battery grip attached, which makes for a very tactile and fun camera to use. No worries, these are all amazing cameras
No need to feel guilty each camera/lens has its place and use………that’s what I keep telling myself!

Certainly for just street photography, I have said this before a few times, E-M10 is actually a better option, as it is smaller and lighter.

Hello Robin I brought on used few days ago and I love it now going to get mark 2 I love Olympus
Have many others I always go back to Olympus have a soft spot
Can pick one up for £225 used in UK. That’s INSANE. best feeling camera I’ve ever held. Gonna buy one again for my upcoming photography course.
I shoot for fun and love wild life photography... but i struggle with events and portraits (basically anything with artificial lighting). I enjoy all your videos Robin. Lots of very helpful OMD tips! Wish I had more time to shoot and learn but your videos have helped alot. Thank you!
Haven't got a chance to use E-M1 series, looks like a very capable and respectable camera even today! Thanks for sharing Robin!
Oh you should definitely try one, as the price has come down so much over the years in the used market

That is very true, now that we can get one at lower cost, it makes sense to bring it for riskier outings and adventures!
Thanks for letting me know that, and yes for street shooting, the original E-M1 can still do a great job!
Once again Robin reminds us of more important thing in photography.
Thanks, appreciate that!
What's important to him is not important to others...
Absolutely! I have it and love it!
I am still loving it too.
My family and I lived in KL about 15 years ago, as an expat...working for a multinational. If you love photography, KL is a fantastic location! This video brings back good memories.
Thanks for letting me know, and do come back to visit!
It's still my camera... low shutter count but I had some problem of shutter freeze during strong cold winter and big battery drain with normal use, they solve it with much better Mark II. So I still use it during vacation but for other things there are better machines. I agree with the good image quality.
Yah I guess in colder countries it might have different challenges. Works well here in warmer climates.
I own it - I love it!
Glad to know that
Great video, I totally agree! It is still a great camera. I sold mine a couple of years ago. Now I own an OM-1, love it, but the flippy screen is the reason why I still keep my E-M10 Mark II and the tiny Lumix GF-7.
Yeah I just think the tilt screen is great for street shooting
Thank you Robin.👍🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼.
No worries, Christine
I switched from a Sony SLT-A57 (APS-C) to an E-M1 because I loved it so much in the hand.
Oh yes the E-M1 just feels right in hand.
Excellent images, Robin. Always bursting with life and colour.
That is really awesome
I remember constantly looking at that camera when I had my em5. Mirrorless was still fairly new, so it's ok, I felt like the ultimate badass with my retro looking em5. My uncles still sporting big cameras were confused on my tiny em5, taking comparable photos to their hand cannon cameras. Those were some good days. Miss them
Yeah it is amazing how much the small cameras can punch above its weight!
My cameras EM1, EM5, EM1 Mk ii , EP 5, Pen F, I love them all, way to many lenses to list.
Nice video and images, thank you Robin.
These are some really awesome cameras
Thank you Robin. So good and helpful in your videos.
Thanks, appreciate that
I've actually just returned to my old capable em1 as my daily carry and sold the em1.2.
why?
@@sikoghost6360 I prefer the shots from the em1, I like the tilting screen as opposed to an articulating screen. I just connect better with the MK1 Vs the MK2.
i also own both em1 mk1 n mk2, also em10 mk2.
i usually use em10 mk2, due to size. i guess size is having large influence.
Your photos are always amazing. Thank you!
Thanks! Appreciate that
My first OM-D was the EM-1 loved the camera, I gave it to my friend when I upgraded to the EM-1-III.
Very good suggestions, just too bad they have the newer cameras which are so much bigger and heavier.
Yeah there is something about the original E-M1 that is just special.
Hello,
I bought the em1 ii 3 years ago and am very happy with it. I haven't been able to try out all the functions yet, so it's perfectly adequate for me. I'd rather invest the money in good lenses or workshops, that will get me a lot further.
Thanks for your videos.
Greetings
Stephan
Thank you :)
No worries, Lecky!
I bought a used one 3 or 4 years ago and I'm still satisfied. No need to update for the moment ...
Yeah it can still deliver great results today.
Great camera today. 😊🙏
I'm on my 3rd one because there is something about this camera that just gets hold of you ... For still photos it's just so good at what it does
Hey Robin, I've found your channel two weeks ago and was playing with idea to stop shooting with SONY A-PSC and go for mFT. Your videos helped a lot to understand the pros and cons about this system.
And I can totally understand your approach to saving some bucks. Thank you for this content!
It is a wonderful camera to use and its performance belies its specs.
Yeah you get a lot out of the E-M1
It's still a very capable camera and was really well -supported with firmware updates. Mine has a broken HDR button and the rear wheel is unreliable. I just bought the battery pack and used the wheel on it, instead. I have the e-m1 iii, but this is my most loved camera
Yeah there were so many firmware updates back then, with added features like silent shutter, Live Composite, and more!
Thanks!
Thanks!
hello robin, thank you very much for your video, after which i bought an omd e-m1 for around 200 dollars today. 👍 looking forward to it. 😆. so good your insta coloured picturs👍, just followed you. thx florian
Happy Monday Robin. May you have peace and happiness this week.
I wish you the same too!

Yes, as a photos camera, that E-M1 is fantastic!
Glad that you enjoyed the E-M1 and E-M10 Mark II, but the EVF on E-M1 should be better than E-M10 Mark II
Agree 100%. The original E-M1 is one of those cameras you know will work no matter what conditions you throw at it. The mechanical shutter on my main E-M1 failed a while ago, but it’s still running fine on the electronic shutter. And articulated screens have become a deal-breaker for me.
Yeah the mechanical shutter will fail at some point, the wonderful thing is, it keeps going on with electronic shutter!
Yeah the E-M1 is still pretty awesome
I have em1 and em5 mark II. Although they are pretty old but still quite powerful for my amateur photography work.
Both cameras were exposed to fine sand in Namibia and sudden rain shower in Kuala Lumpur, but thanks to its robustness! the cameras work perfect and show incredible result always. I don't think I will change the cameras until they completely broken.
I love the way you, with that lovely smile, do drop some bombs sometimes... unexpected yet real. Great channel.
Not a bad idea as you can find one in used market for low price now! Certainly a good compact setup, if you don't want to carry too much.
I agree with you. sometimes I use my old em1 and in a normal use is a very good camera. only afc is slow.
Yeah I wish the newer flagship camera is smaller and lighter
I still have an digital Omd em5 (the fisrt One) as my main camera and It works very well
yeap that is an awesome camera too
Man. This thing has saved me tons of money. I still do commission work with it today!
Still one Hell of a piece of kit.
Indeed it is
Still got mine for my water housing / surf photog ❤
Thanks Jordan, appreciate that!
I still using this camera robin… planning wanna buy the lenses Lumix if not mistaken… still saving my $$$. Thanks robin
I have had my EM1 for many years & although I have some of the newer models I still use the Em1 & prefer the flip up screen since I am a photographer & not a videographer.
Still amazing camera! I m not struggling between this.. or just grab a OM-1 .. but now there’s a mark II :)
Hi Robin, ich besitze es auch und nutze es immer noch, seit 2015.
Majority of the time has not let me down,
Thinking about buying the OM-1 To add to my system, and possibly thinking about getting the pro 300mm f/4 For Bird photography and wildlife phot photography.
That is awesome, and go out and shoot more, have fun with the E-M1
I'm still using mine. I totaly agree that images are so good. I just guess why is there so less difference between this image sensor of the one in the new OM1 ?
Nice used look, like my M1.3 😍
What is the latest firmware update this camera should have, now in 2024?
Thanks for the review.
You must have gigantic hands. I used the 35-100mm for 5 minutes and my wrists were about to come off.
@@robinwong Yay! I feel better knowing i'm not alone! But if you ever want to take the discomfort up a level, just try it with the 90-250!
Was there denoise @ ISO8000 in post? I'm impressed with high ISO shots.
I loved that camera. I wish I’d kept it 😢
Go get one in the used market! It should be pretty cheap now.
I bought a used E-M1 earlier this year, but the battery is pretty worn out. Which 3rd party battery manufacturer would you recommend?
