Thanks for confirming, when he said "after 100 minutes you get to 100%" I thought "wait that's not how probability works," but I figured it was very likely that was correct even if the explanation was oversimplified.
Oh I see, I also thought it was wrong but it seems I simply misunderstood the question. I took it to mean "How long will it take on average for the chance it has spawned to be 50/50" not (which seems to be the actual interpretation) "How long will it take on average to spawn at any given minute (i.e. not including all the minutes beforehand)" thank you for clearing it up.

Are you sure about the farthest shrine? I measured on the object map from the Shrine of Resurrection (I actually searched and had it marked on the map, not just eyballed) and got 6.59 km for Hia Miu and 6.53 km for Gorae Torr. For those interested, Hawa Koth is 4.20 km (nice) away and Korgu Chideh is 6.14 km. If you include all 120 shrines, the farthest is Tu Ka'loh by far at 8.02 km, with second place, Katosa Aug, being almost a kilometer closer at 7.09 km. Edit: So I realized I was measuring from the middle of the Shrine of Resurrection, and not the bed Link wakes up in. However, after re-measuring, Hia Miu is 6.61 km and Gorae Torr is 6.57 km. Hia Miu is still farther.

How high is Lanayru Tower? Because this NPC falls from the tower too, when the towers are not activated. Could allow to verify the estimated falling height even more precise. Btw great quiz :)
Where are you measuring from for the shrine question? Surely Tu Kal'oh Shrine in the Akkala Labyrinth is farther. Unless you meant just of those four options.
Neat, although, I can't help but feel asking the name of an internal code variable used in insanely tech-heavy exploits is a _little_ on the obscure side :P
Quick note: The math on the question “How long do you have to wait till the apple respawns” is incorrect. As you said if you leave the area every minute is a 1% chance for the apple to respawn. Therefore the probability of the apple having respawned after x minutes is 1-(1-0.01)^x or 1-0.99^x (the probability that the apple did not-not respawn after x minutes). Perhaps a better answer would have been: There is a 90% chance the apple has respawned after x minutes (which turns out to be ln(1-0.9)/ln(0.99) ~= 229 if you solve 1-0.99^x=0.9) Another way to phrase it would be: The apple has most likely respawned on minute x. In that case the appropriate formula is: 0.01*0.99^x-1 (it has not respawned in x-1 minutes and then respawned on minute x) which is a decreasing function, therefore making the answer 1 min (for 0 min the solution would have to be defined as 0, as the function does not give a useful answer for x=0, because there is no such thing as -1 min in this context) which is not particularly insightful. One last note: There is no timeframe where the apple has respawned for sure because there is always the chance of 0.99^x (>0) that the apple has not respawned yet (if you try to solve 1-0.99^x=y you run into ln(1-y)/ln(0.99) which approaches infinity as y approaches 1 form below)
By the start of the game did you mean the shrine of resurrection? Because if so Hia Miu is farther than Gorae Torr, and Tu Ka'loh is significantly farther than both. Great quiz and congrats to Piston for winning, can't say it was unexpected :)
How did you check Hia Miu distance vs Gorae Torr distance? Eyeballing it on the map, it's veeeery close. (I don't think Tu Ka'loh counts because only four options were given, so he just meant "out of these four, which is farthest?")
@@puggietaur It's a little tricky to be exact with objmap in this case because for some reason it doesn't display the "official" location of the Shrine of Resurrection, but picking a point roughly in the center of that hill gave me 6579 m for Hia Miu and 6519 m for Gorae Torr. I have no idea where Lim measured from, maybe the nearest point on the Plateau? That probably still wouldn't make Gorae Torr farther. Weird.
I know which memory you meant by "the final memory you unlock in the base game" (and I'm sure everyone else did too, so it doesn't matter), but I'm pretty sure it's possible to wait to start the Divine Beast quests or pull the Master Sword until after you've finished the Captured Memories quest, so the "final memory you unlock" could be any of six different memories.
how is gorae torr farther than Tu Ka'loh? Tu Ka'loh is farther north and farther east.. edit: okay so I guess you meant "which of these options" rather than out of all shrines
very good video - from a mathematical point of view the answer of the "apple-respawn-question" is not correct because "on average" isn't well defined. For example: the repawn-probabilty after 1 Hour ist 45,8%, after 3 hours 83,6%. (look at ua-cam.com/video/xR8gx83W0Fs/v-deo.html at 04:30). So, the simple addition of 100 minutes is wrong and has nothing to do with calcating of probability - sorry for "klugscheissing" 😁
okay, so... I think 100 minutes is right... at first I thought exactly the same as you, so I searched in the comments to see if someone noticed and so I found your comment and your video (it's really good by the way). But then I realised... yes, the probability that one item respawns after an hour is around 45.8% but does that mean it is (about) the average? I thought about how you would calculate the average, but my math sucked, so I ran a simulation. (Edit: I now know how, see 4th comment) I took average in this way: The average of the amount of time (in minutes) in witht n number of items respawn, is the amount of minutes it takes for all Items to respawn divided by n. and with a sample size of 100 000 000 items, I got pretty much exactly 100 minutes as a result. I don't know why, but I am pretty sure my code works (I'll add it at the and of the comment if someone wants to check, it's written in rust) I explained it to myself like this: since every minute every item has a chance of 1% to respawn, but doesn't technically has a limit on how long it takes to respawn, some items take an insane amount of time to respawn, which makes the average go up. I still want to know how you could calculate something like that, if anybody that is good in math reads this, please tell me. (Edit: fixed a gramar and typo) Here is my code: use rand::Rng; fn main() { println!("calculate..."); let sample_size: u128 = 100000000; let mut trys_sum: u128 = 0; for _sample_num in 0..=sample_size { //the amount of minutes it take for this item let mut try_count: u128 = 1; //every loop, one minutes "passes" loop { let rnd_number = rand::thread_rng().gen_range(1..=100); //check item respawned, if so add the time it took for this //item to respawn to the total amount if rnd_number == 1 { trys_sum += try_count; break; } //item did not respawn so one minutes "passes" try_count += 1; } } //calc average by dividing the total amount of minutes passed by the amount of items let average: f64 = (trys_sum as f64) / (sample_size as f64); print!("average in minutes is: {}", average.to_string()) }
but yes, if you want to know how long it takes for half of the items to respawn, you are right like in your video, but i wouldn't say that is the average. (the exact time for half to respawn would be ≈69 minutes lol: 0.5 = 1-0.99^x log0.99 (0.5) = x (
@@arandomyoshimain9269 "for all Items to respawn" -> their is always a (decreasing)possibility that a item is not respawned, no matter how much time has passed, so your definition of "average" could be right ... as I wrote above, "average" isn't well defined, but i think, a definition "respawn is more possible then not" is a good defintion for "average" and as you wrote: the respawning possibility is over 50% after 68.9676 minutes ... after 100 minutes the possibility is greater ( =63,4%), but not at 100%, so 100 minutes ...100 Minutes are just as arbitrary as say 180 Minutes or 1000 Minutes, you can never reach the 100%.
@@Tomsen21 "In mathematics and statistics, average refers to the sum of a group of values divided by n, where n is the number of values in the group" i think my take fits the definition well. your take is more like the "Halbwertszeit" (half-life) of a non-existing apple as a friend told me :) since we can compare it to radioactive decay like that I searched and found this de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebensdauer_(Physik)#Lebensdauer_und_Zerfallswahrscheinlichkeit so we get: r = 1/ʎ r is the lifetime and ʎ is the decay(in our situation decay of non existing item so basically respawn) probability per time so r = 1/0.01 = 100 so it is not arbitrary also on the page it says Halbwertszeit is arounf 69% of the lifetime so 69 minutes, just as we already knew
@@arandomyoshimain9269 😀... I think, we can agree, that "average" in this case it's the wrong word for this situation / question ... we both are right and wrong 🤘🖖

And yes Legendoflinkk is around since 2017.
Before I start this video let me apologize to both Lim and Leo because I was Susge about the answer to the respawn question, but I was wrong
Let 0.01 = chance to respawn every minute
Define random variable X = number of minutes passed when it respawn
Let p(x) = P(X = x) = Probability of the outcome of X = x = it respawns at exactly minute x
(p(x) is known as the probability mass function)
p(x) = 0.99^(x-1) * 0.01 Thing does not respawn for the first x-1 minutes and does respawn for the last minute
E(X) = expected value of X (aka weighted average)
= Sum of x*p(x) from 1 to Infinity
= Sum of x * (0.99^(x-1)) * 0.01) from 1 to Infinity
To evaluate this series, use a calculator, or
let E2(X) = E(X) = Sum of (x+1) * (0.99^x) * 0.01) from 0 to Infinity (Transform x => x+1)
= 0.01 + Sum of (x+1) * (0.99^x) * 0.01) from 1 to Infinity
0.99 * E(X) = Sum of x * (0.99^x) * 0.01) from 1 to Infinity
0.01 * E(X) = E2(X) - 0.99 * E(X)
= 0.01 + Sum of (0.99^x) * 0.01) from 1 to Infinity
E(X) = 1 + Sum of (0.99^x) from 1 to Infinity
= Sum of 0.99^x from 0 to Infinity
= 1/(1-0.99)
= 1/0.01
= 100
So the answer is 100

@@puggietaur It's a little tricky to be exact with objmap in this case because for some reason it doesn't display the "official" location of the Shrine of Resurrection, but picking a point roughly in the center of that hill gave me 6579 m for Hia Miu and 6519 m for Gorae Torr. I have no idea where Lim measured from, maybe the nearest point on the Plateau? That probably still wouldn't make Gorae Torr farther. Weird.
I know I’m late but I think it was furthest away of those options
11:03 did not know - haha
18:57 I don’t understand this one. Isn’t the Lomei labyrinth island shrine further away from the Shrine of Resurrection than Gorrae Torr?
The question was "out of the 4" should have specified it
I want to take it
Nice
"who discovered stasis launches" seems kind of weird
like, thats an intended mechanic of the game? the real answer is the devs lol
If it was intended it still had to be discovered by the community

what abt tu kaloh for the furthest away?
How is gorae torr further away than tu ka’loh?

Tu Ka'loh is farther from the start than Gorae Torr

All of these are incorrect, where is Urbosa?
And for a more gay answer: Ganondorf. Matt Mercer’s voice be like that.

Awwww, you said "the Linkus in the description" but he's not there...
I got 8/25 while not really playing this game that much at all :)
ITS PURAH ITS F***ING PURAH
I know which memory you meant by "the final memory you unlock in the base game" (and I'm sure everyone else did too, so it doesn't matter), but I'm pretty sure it's possible to wait to start the Divine Beast quests or pull the Master Sword until after you've finished the Captured Memories quest, so the "final memory you unlock" could be any of six different memories.

15/25!
I knew basically none of them, but I guessed from his reading and the options available
3rd Questionen I did know cause I marked me alle Central region krogs today ant they are round about 100
I got 9 out of 25 I had fun playing this though
I've never played Botw, but I got 7/25
Got 10/25 right, but I did actually get #19, unlike most of chat.
how is gorae torr farther than Tu Ka'loh? Tu Ka'loh is farther north and farther east..
edit: okay so I guess you meant "which of these options" rather than out of all shrines
Indeed
I refuse to acknowledge the thumbnail without Urbosa as an option ;)
I only got 9 :| I pretty much only got the obscure ones XD.
your going to be thinking that I'm lying but I actually got them all right
very good video - from a mathematical point of view the answer of the "apple-respawn-question" is not correct because "on average" isn't well defined. For example: the repawn-probabilty after 1 Hour ist 45,8%, after 3 hours 83,6%. (look at ua-cam.com/video/xR8gx83W0Fs/v-deo.html at 04:30). So, the simple addition of 100 minutes is wrong and has nothing to do with calcating of probability - sorry for "klugscheissing" 😁
okay, so... I think 100 minutes is right... at first I thought exactly the same as you, so I searched in the comments to see if someone noticed and so I found your comment and your video (it's really good by the way). But then I realised... yes, the probability that one item respawns after an hour is around 45.8% but does that mean it is (about) the average? I thought about how you would calculate the average, but my math sucked, so I ran a simulation. (Edit: I now know how, see 4th comment) I took average in this way:
The average of the amount of time (in minutes) in witht n number of items respawn, is the amount of minutes it takes for all Items to respawn divided by n.
and with a sample size of 100 000 000 items, I got pretty much exactly 100 minutes as a result. I don't know why, but I am pretty sure my code works (I'll add it at the and of the comment if someone wants to check, it's written in rust)
I explained it to myself like this: since every minute every item has a chance of 1% to respawn, but doesn't technically has a limit on how long it takes to respawn, some items take an insane amount of time to respawn, which makes the average go up.
I still want to know how you could calculate something like that, if anybody that is good in math reads this, please tell me.
(Edit: fixed a gramar and typo)
Here is my code:
use rand::Rng;
fn main() {
println!("calculate...");
let sample_size: u128 = 100000000;
let mut trys_sum: u128 = 0;
for _sample_num in 0..=sample_size {
//the amount of minutes it take for this item
let mut try_count: u128 = 1;
//every loop, one minutes "passes"
loop {
let rnd_number = rand::thread_rng().gen_range(1..=100);
//check item respawned, if so add the time it took for this
//item to respawn to the total amount
if rnd_number == 1 {
trys_sum += try_count;
break;
}
//item did not respawn so one minutes "passes"
try_count += 1;
}
}
//calc average by dividing the total amount of minutes passed by the amount of items
let average: f64 = (trys_sum as f64) / (sample_size as f64);
print!("average in minutes is: {}", average.to_string())
}
but yes, if you want to know how long it takes for half of the items to respawn, you are right like in your video, but i wouldn't say that is the average. (the exact time for half to respawn would be ≈69 minutes lol:
0.5 = 1-0.99^x
log0.99 (0.5) = x (
@@arandomyoshimain9269 "for all Items to respawn" -> their is always a (decreasing)possibility that a item is not respawned, no matter how much time has passed, so your definition of "average" could be right ... as I wrote above, "average" isn't well defined, but i think, a definition "respawn is more possible then not" is a good defintion for "average" and as you wrote: the respawning possibility is over 50% after 68.9676 minutes ... after 100 minutes the possibility is greater ( =63,4%), but not at 100%, so 100 minutes ...100 Minutes are just as arbitrary as say 180 Minutes or 1000 Minutes, you can never reach the 100%.
@@Tomsen21 "In mathematics and statistics, average refers to the sum of a group of values divided by n, where n is the number of values in the group"
i think my take fits the definition well. your take is more like the "Halbwertszeit" (half-life) of a non-existing apple as a friend told me :)
since we can compare it to radioactive decay like that I searched and found this de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebensdauer_(Physik)#Lebensdauer_und_Zerfallswahrscheinlichkeit so we get:
r = 1/ʎ
r is the lifetime and ʎ is the decay(in our situation decay of non existing item so basically respawn) probability per time
so r = 1/0.01 = 100 so it is not arbitrary
also on the page it says Halbwertszeit is arounf 69% of the lifetime so 69 minutes, just as we already knew
@@arandomyoshimain9269 😀... I think, we can agree, that "average" in this case it's the wrong word for this situation / question ... we both are right and wrong 🤘🖖
