Carmine your own presentation skills are simply superb. Your timing and phrasing is seriously good you must have some musical background. Many presenters haven't perfected the art of pausing at the right time to let an idea sink in or to allow the listener a moment of personal reflection. You managed this. So the story may be important but a story well told is even better!
Thats why in India we teach our history and tradition and religion through lengthy epics like Ramayan, Mahabharat, and Gita in the middle of Mahabharat...and so on...everything is story for us indians therefore we indians continue to exist even after a century of invasion and will continue to do so...no matter what
Story is part of speaker credibility which shows his spentenoucity and simplicity. it's inspiring the influencer and the people as well in the path of the resolution. No doubt story telling has a special strucure formula in escalating form from the bottom where introduction start till the top where the conflict takes its crucial status. Finally, the line drops down again to unleash the resolution which is necessary to solve the conflict or overcome the challenge as coach, speaker or teacher. strong story in contemporan ages may be not be narrated yet. Also, he didn't tell any stories but used examples of stories and keeps talking facts.. Kind of interesting in a contradictory way...I am not sure whether to be impressed about something or manipulated..
He didn't answer most of the Q&A. He just went on and on. He's using every technique from Caldini's book 'influence' to manipulate the viewer into thinking he has something substantial when he's just taking the formula of pick a few points and elaborate. He's marketing himself very well but IMO there's not too much substance. Very good salesman.
Every of the dozens of examples he gave was a story. Stories don't all start "Once upon a time". The ability to run is "in our DNA", that doesn't mean we're automatically good at it without practice/training.
Oh, Carmine wrote Talk Like TED? Honestly that book didn't really stick out to me, although there were some really good points scattered in there. This talk has more good points than I remember getting from that book.
Interesting. My wife keeps telling me to write a book. However instead I started writing my own short stories and learning how to edit and put them on youTube. I'm still learning, but I am having fun. I am Nurse and have lots of crazy medical stories, but instead Im telling paranormal , aliens, and other stuff

This sounds like an interesting presentation, but I'm at minute 10 and the guy has already repeated the phrase "We know how this works" about 30 times. Unfortunately, I don't think that's a good way to tell a story. It gets kind of annoying.
how come he doesn't answer any of the questions? They're straightforward but instead of giving a straightforward answer he just goes on and on. 'Dopamine release, does that have to do with storytelling?'..."Well, it's part of a bigger thing, dopamine makes you feel good. I like to connect neuroscience..." Just tell me the answer man.
He did a presentation on Steve Jobs. he switched off the comments. Steve Jobs didn't come up with all of his successful ideas Some were were stolen from a foreign intelligence agent.

Seems to me that the biggest, most famous stories don't really follow his 3 part pattern so well. Think Homer, the Bible, the Bagvita Gita (spelling?),... But a lot of stories do, e.g., maybe a lot of Greek tragedies and comedies... What determines the form of a story?
meir simchah panzer. Some individual stories in the Bible may not adhere to the 3 Parts structure. But the entire theme of the Bible follows this structure: 1. The Setup: Life was good in Eden. God loves us. We are cool with God. 2. The Conflict: Adam and Eve disobeyed God and sin entered into our world. God was pissed. 3. The Resolution: God sent a sacrifice for sin (Jesus) to redeem humankind.

I was inspired! I have some storytelling skills, I love to tell stories to children. I'm now going to try to implement these skills into my work life!
