    The fact that you can type "pi*2" into a field and it will give you the proper numerical value of 6.28. This, to me, is one of the millions of little ways in which Blender truly stands out. Try entering pi into a rotation field in 3ds Max.

    • @kifayatUllah712
      @kifayatUllah712 11 місяців тому +1

      There's an even shorter way. Write "tau". It will automatically calculate pi * 2 and the result will be 6.28. Blender is amazing, Ma shaa Allah.

    Instead of using different layers, you can use "fields" part of the whole thing by sending different density depending on the instance index.

    • @CGObaid
      @CGObaid  2 роки тому

      How ? can you send a screenshot or something ?

    • @AllExistence
      @AllExistence 2 роки тому

      @@CGObaid Instance on points has instance input. And it's a field. You can set the index manually, or plug in a random value node. If you then do some math with output of that node you can calculate necessary density procedurally or just use switch node based on value you get. All necessary nodes work with the "fields".

    With particle systems, you can add children particles to control the amount of instances visible in the view port and control the percentage which are to be rendered. This helps with keeping the viewport form lagging. Can that type of set up be created with geometry nodes?

    • @CGObaid
      @CGObaid  6 місяців тому

      I haven't found a solution for children particles system in geo nodes yet, but you can easily set a different Density for the Viewport and the Render in geo nodes. I have made a video on this - ua-cam.com/video/pM0ekmt-x40/v-deo.html

    Btw to increase the probability of an object in a collection you can just duplicate it in the collection(think of it as .../10or out of any number) I have seen people do this but.. I haven't so yeah

    • @CGObaid

      Yes, it is possible to do with geo nodes but I've to figure out how to do that. But you can achieve this effect with just a few clicks using Scatter 5. I showed how to this in this video - ua-cam.com/video/p06R8pC_sno/v-deo.html

      @@CGObaid Okay, I installed Gscatter 10, 11, 4.... none of them have the grass object you used and I wondered.... is that a free grass that came with it or can you somehow send that grass asset to me in some way? But I'm only doing Blender for fun, not income. If you know where I can get the grass models you used with the textures etc, let me know. thanks! @@CGObaid I couldn't find those particular grasses for free. I think they quit offering those. I emailed also about it so I just gave up on that and really I haven't messed with Blender in months. I guess I realized it was just too difficult to get any cool results. It was super frustrating trying to remember all the GOTCHAS and try to avoid them like..... apply all transforms cuz yeah, that weird effect that's happening that you can't figure out? You didn't apply scale and now EVERYTHING is hosed. So.... It was cool to play with for a few months. I dabbled with the sculpt stuff too but it's too involved. Thanks for the reply, tho!!!

    This may not be possible, but I just wondered if it is possible to alter the hue, colours, of the grasses after the last join geometry node? Or somewhere. My aim would be to be able to vary the whole 'colour cast' of the node result, to vary the grass between a lush green and a summer parched dry yellow. Though perhaps each group having that ability may be better, as each species of grass may suffer from drought conditions differently.

      Do you mean color variation to the grass ? You can easily do that changing the grass hue using the object info random value. Here you can watch a video by CG Geek -ua-cam.com/video/-GAm-7_3N6g/v-deo.html

      @@CGObaid That works in the material nodes. I was hoping there was a way to 'tint' the entire geometry nodes set up towards a lush fresh green spring look, to a parched yellowing dry summer look. Rather than have to go to each material and alter them one at a time. It may just not be an optiong.

    How do you add color variation to the grass instance?

    • @CGObaid
      @CGObaid  7 місяців тому

      Create multiple stops in a Colorramp with different green colors. For the factor use the "Random" output from the "Object Info" node. Then add a Mix color node after the Base Color texture of your grass, set the blending mode to "Hue" and use the Colorramp for the bottom socket. The fac in the Mix color node will control the intensity.

    How do you get your grass to not clip through your rocks?

    • @CGObaid
      @CGObaid  6 місяців тому

      It's actually not a big deal if the grass clips into the rocks unless you're close to it. You can do it by Realising the rock instances then using a Geometry Proximity that acts as a mask for the grass layer, but that will become very heavy. Instead you could add a Instances to points node then use that for the Geometry Proximity, be sure to set the mode from faces to points. This will work a lot faster but the masking won't be as accurate.

      The origin point of the grass needs to be at the very bottom. You can go to edit mode, select the bottom vertices, then press "Shift + S" choose "cursor to selected". Then go back to object mode, right click and change the origin point to 3D cursor.

    Gscatter doesn't have a zip to install. I've unzipped the folder it gave me and tried it. Couldn't find the .zip in it so I used the unextracted version and there's no .zip in there to install either. I've tried for an hour now and can't figure out how to get Gscatter into Blender.
    Both materials I also tried to install and the download button didn't work even after clicking multiple times. I clicked through a few options and nothing works. Clicking a file type just opens up another window to view it. I set it to 4k and Blender and have tried setting it to .ZIP instead of blender and the Download button does nothing. I tried going to a completely different texture on PolyHaven and they don't download either so I can't move on past the first few minutes of this tutorial :(

    You can then adjust distribution, scale, rotation, randomness, and all sorts of things through the Graswald menu. It's all right there.
