Baofeng UV-82 Dual Band Transceiver by Radio-Mart.net This is Baofengs latest offering, it is a high end, rugged VHF/UHF Handheld for UNDER $50 see www.radio-mart....
Hi Falcon The main difference is the 82 does not suffer close chanel interferance, it has slightly higher power output and excellent receive performance, they are both fine transceivers but the 82 has the edge
Yes you can use it as a scanner, the scan speed is slow compared to a "real scanner" so if your local EMS etc are broadcasting within the range of the radio then your good to go.
The 5RA, 5RC, B6 and 82 have very good output, the + models seem off and poor by comparison going by the comments we receive, I am pleased we have not sold any 5+s and do not plan to.
Just a quick heads up, the supplied battery, I have confirmed it is an 1800ma battery and NOT a 2800ma Battery as printed on the Battery label, Baofeng have confirmed this is a misprint on the battery
I HAVE JUST MADE THE SOFTWARE FOR HIS MODEL AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, it can be found here.... groups.yahoo.com/group/BaofengUV-82/ I have placed it in the files section
This seems very similar to the UV5R. On the other hand, UV5R is a tried and tested radio with lots of aftermarket add-ons. Aside from the bigger battery, how is this model better or worse than that one? How is the compatibility of antennas, speaker/mic, USB cable and other add-ons?
It is 100% from the ground up a new model and despite the menu system being similar ( a tried and tested system) it is much better on RX sensitivity and does not suffer from close channel interference like some models have in the past and TX audio is very clear, it is nice to have a larger battery. The PC cable and speaker mics etc are all compatible
none of the Ham radio handhelds are currently Digital, that is a whole new breed of radio and system, bottom line is its a $50 radio that's excellent value :)
I just received 2 UV-82's with mic's and software and programing cable.. The programing disk that I bought doesn't work. If I had to judge these radios today I would call them junk. However I will hold my judgement for now. What do I need to program the UV-82's I have the cable.
Hello, I picked up the UV-82X with the cable so that I could program the radio with the help of my computer. I am not able to program the radio from any computer that I have tried to use and I have tried to do a manual program as well. When I do a manual program I can program 146.880 with the correct setting and get into the repeater. I can not get the 220 repeater to work on the radio at all because the radio always goes to UHF when I enter in 224.540 and save it. I have tried to set the offset before and after entering in the frequency but it keeps going back to UHF for some strange reason. Can someone please help me with this or send me the steps that I need to take so I can make this work? Thank you
You didn't buy the cable from us and I agree the disk is a waste of time, throw it away, get the software and drivers off our web site, www.radio-mart.net/Baofeng-UV-82-Dual-Band-Handheld-Transceiver.html they are free if you have any problems join our users group here groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BaofengUV-82/info
That is NOT a 2800mah battery! It is labeled wrong and is actually an 1800mah battery! Batteries that are labeled 2800mah and 3000mah are only 1800mah. Also UV-82L's do not exist. Buyers beware!
I would recommend going to this site as l lot of questions are already answered there,, its like a simple A to Z guide, www.miklor.com/UV82/ or you can join our users group groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BaofengUV-82/info that we set up to answer any questions. Best 73s Martyn K4TEC
since it's band is 400 - 520 - can it open up to full range? The antenna is a SMA male but on the site say for better one we can use Surmen Diamond SRH519. That is a female antenna. So, we need a adapter for then? Also the battery that comes with it is a 2800Mah. Do have a replacement for it? Does the software work with windows 7 or 8?
The coverage on UHF is 400 to 520MHz and works well in that range the Surmen antenna is a direct fit for this transceiver with no adapter needed The battery is an 1800Mah, we do have replacement batteries available www.radio-mart.net/Baofeng-BL-8-Li-ion-Battery-for-UV-82.html The software will work with Win 7 and 8 Best 73s Mr John Doe..
Hi Shawn
the extra power is useful and the receive sensitivity is better and image rejection has been improved over the 5R series

That would be a nice feature to have however it is strange how so many people want the flash light too,, way more than I would have imagined.

Which is better Baofeng UV-B6 or Baofeng UV-82 and why?
This is a very good radio, fit for the budget and it works for us at 206 CoastGuard Auxiliary Search and Rescue.
