I think that sequence will stay with a lot of us for a long time. It's the perfect encapsulation of (hopefully temporary) defeat by life's frustrations.
I'm suspecting Bridget was a bit under the weather on one of the days they filmed the tasks , she is so clever at some tasks but others that aren't any harder - total collapse .
I loved the high-five task, and I had exactly the same reaction as you - initially I thought - well this is just going to to be strange, and then when you found out that they weren't all there at the same time, you realise the simple genius of it. Great task design.
Much like "find the coolest photo in your phone", hiding the key was a giveaway to be a setup particularly because it did not have the word "wins" in it, meaning there was no winning the task at that point.
Neil you gotta check out The Big Fat Quiz of Everything from this year and you should do some more past ones. They're the perfect combo of quizzing and comedy and they were great videos when you did the last two.
Anneke Rice was in the series Treasure Hunt, a team were given given cryptic clues to find locations and eventually a prize (in a studio) they were in contact with Anneke who was in a helicopter and she was flown to the locations the team gave her. All against the clock.
She also did "Challenge Anneka" after that, where she was given a task to do (like build a children's playground) with a limited time to rush around and find people and resources to help. She'd probably be too experienced for Taskmaster to be any challenge to her!
Agreed with Neil , the tasks are so clever and well produced in this post covid series . Bridget and Sophie , the ones I had seen less of have proved clever and funny and this cast has really been one of the best . Surprised the kimono actually wasn't a bad fit for Greg , sure it wasn't originally a tent?
Possibly why it was so valuable. There can't be many antique Japanese kimono's in that size, though mentioning that it may have been worn by a sumo wrestler would be instant last place...
For the tank task, I would've put the small tank in the water (because when Chris did this it floated but didn't overflow the water in the big tank) then filled the little tank with water till the water level rose and put the required amount of items left to go in the big tank but tiny ones that wouldn't raise the level further job done
If I had to do the tank task, I would have asked Alex for a tape measure to measure the remaining volume in the tank, then found and measured six heavy, regular shaped objects that came close, but slightly lower than the remaining volume.
All you have to do to create displacement is to press the small tank into the big tank until the water nears the edge without overflowing. You can place a number of coins in the small tank to make sure you have the requisite number of items before pushing it down. I don't think the task says you have to let go of the items you place into the big tank.
Don’t know if you listen to the Taskmaster podcast Neil, always a fun listen but Bridget this week was beyond hysterical! She really has that chaotic energy at all times. Check it out!
I've noticed that on the final task they have been calling the runway the knappett. I believe that is in reference to Jess knappett. If you watch series 7 episode 7, the final task, you will see why
My first thought on the "hard but possible to retrieve key", would be to drop it in the loo and then crap on it. After seeing the rest of the show, I'm glad I'm not on this.
I would have stuck the key in my bra but would have been scared Alex was going to have to retrieve it, but I would have done it anyways. So I would have been in good shape there.
I never understood why Judi putting the key in the tree - admittedly not very high up - was something Alex asked her to move but allowed Bridget to put her key in her boot
I have the biggest gay man's crush on her. She's fabulous! I've only previously ever seen her on QI, which is where I fell in love with her as a personality. So this series/season of Taskmaster has been a real treat! And she has sass.
@@johnboy2562 No, they deliberately didn't say that, because it wasn't. You don't have any say in how the task is run, you just spectate. Know your place!
@@EclecticInstinct You don't know that. Greg seems to like people that think outside the box, he might have said that you got zero for the first high-five but still have given five points for the third.
"You must not break the box." I would say this is a workaround that none of the contestants figured out. The task itself never said, "You must not break the box," and as Alex is fond to say, "All the information you need is on the task." Therefore, that's not a rule one has to abide by while doing the task. Hence I would've just smashed that shit xD.
Find two lengths of wood Upend the small tank Position the tank in the water and position the long lengths over the small tank press down until water comes to top Only one item is in the tank
Not my favourite episode for a fair few reasons. Think they put in too many complex tasks in one episode. The scoring of the high five task felt off to me, didn't see why Alex got to give 4 points to Chris and Ardal, as that should've been Greg decision for how many points not 1st, 3rd and last should get. (plus Greg broke the rules as Ardal was officially last). Also I have a gripe with the water task, they said you can't have any water come out of the big tank, but Ardal and Judi (and in Alex's demonstration) they all got water on their fingers and brought them out of the tank, so technically everyone should've been disqualified. The key task part 1 & 2 were good, the over 50db wasn't really part of it though as it wasn't mentioned whether they did that bit. I did notice that part 1 never said they'd get points for how difficult the key would be to find, but it would've been nice for maybe hardest to find gota bonus point. And lastly I'm getting a little tired of live tasks where they have to stare at Greg. Plus it wasn't explained if Chris got any points as he didn't finish with 3 red balls out.
I agree with the staring add-ons. they seem to load this final tasks with silly things. the odd silly thing is ok, I'd rather there were tasks where they have to think a bit.
I'm with you on the hand-slapping task. I don't think Ardal should've been allowed to smack his hand more than once. It should've been a once and done kind of thing. Besides, it does set up a paradox of sorts 2nd, those other places, and then last. Weren't they only allowed 5th place? The task said 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and, 5th. Well, Ardal made it 8 or places I think, taking 2nd and 5th for certain which negate one another. Regarding the water displacement task, no offense, but I think you're being bit harsh, nitpicky. I think it's a given that people will get a small incriminate of water on their hands in such an action. It's either, put it in slow with your fingers near the water top, or splash water out by just dropping it in without any care. I think the main point of the task was essentially, don't overflow the tank.
Alex keeps the scores and gives the points on quite a few tasks . Gregg makes judgements and disqualification when it's a matter of HIS opinion . The main thing is it's taken seriously on the surface but really just for fun and the results don't matter a jot .
@@FLQueerLiberal1982 All the rules are in the task! It's not the Olympics, there's always scope for lateral thinking, or maybe even a loophole. That's where the fun lives!
Another excellent episode. Bridget laying on the floor banging the saucepan was how I felt yesterday after a horrendous day at work.

That image of Bridget on the ground forlornly banging the pan feels like the bleak final scene of a lost Werner Herzog film.
I loved the high-five task, and I had exactly the same reaction as you - initially I thought - well this is just going to to be strange, and then when you found out that they weren't all there at the same time, you realise the simple genius of it. Great task design.
They perfectly played the second part of the key task, it’s just enough time to forget about it entirely.

I love how Ardal and Bridget have pretty much swapped places since the series beginning in terms of competence 🤣
Anneke Rice was in the series Treasure Hunt, a team were given given cryptic clues to find locations and eventually a prize (in a studio) they were in contact with Anneke who was in a helicopter and she was flown to the locations the team gave her. All against the clock.
Treasure hunt was way ahead of its time, given technology available in the 80s.
Anneka, not Anneke.
She also did "Challenge Anneka" after that, where she was given a task to do (like build a children's playground) with a limited time to rush around and find people and resources to help. She'd probably be too experienced for Taskmaster to be any challenge to her!

I strongly recommend the Taskmaster podcast. It gives great insight into how contestants (current and former) thought through things

I can see that it would have a lot of appeal for some people. I'm with you though - a terrifying prospect!
during lockdown there was a "series" of hometasks on the Taskmaster official channel, have you considered to try some of them?
Ardal Is still my favorite.
Yep loving the live crowd again.
I don't know if it's been requested already but have a look at QI Series P, Episode 5.
Ardal doing the high five as 2nd and then 4th and then 5th

The way to win the third high five would have been to combine Judy and Ardle, ie run up to Alex as fast as possible and do three high fives
Yep...I was screaming this at my screen...GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!
The zero points for being first would probably have overriden the points for being third.

This is an hilarious episode....
In the high five task, just immediately run up to Alex and high five him 3 times 😀
Yes, they should have said that only 1 high five was allowed.
