Sir Ty so much for your video I watched about 6 videos where a person stated they where gonna show you how to do this but half butt method. No mention of the clip on the bottom to release to pop the fuse box loose or how to turn it to the side to release the model clips so much helpful info sir Ty.
Wish you had opened the gem to see why it failed.wster damage? I have the same truck and the gray plug is one piece not 3. Flat electric wrench makes short work of the back bolts. 5 minute job.
Very helpful video. Thanks. My fan blower was running on its own and was told it was probably water/corrosion in the fuse box. I pulled it out following your guidance and sure enough there was a water inside. I baked it in the oven a 170 for 2 hours to dry it out. Replacing the box was a whole 'nother story. There are so many harnesses under the dash of my 2000 Expedition that I was unable to replace it as a unit. I had to install the GEM first then slide the fuse box in after. I taped up all the seams on the fuse box and sealed up the windshield where I thought the water was getting in. Now we'll wait for the rain.
Definitely the best video on this available. The only thing missing is the size of the bolt that holds the wiring cluster to the back of the fuse panel.
great video, got an 03 lariat supercrew and this GEM module is one of many things that it needs. Front carrier getting swapped in, AC system needs attention, having mud tires didnt seem to be the best choice for highway driving but honestly its so comfortable on the highway and rides nice im just gonna stay in it and enjoy this truck. Its a good truck and im happy
Only good video on this, Jeff Mount. Thanks. Here is what happened to my 2000 Ford F150 two days ago. First rain of year after long frozen winter. Started vehicle, saw 4x4 light up quickly, heard a couple of beeps. Went away. Put in drive, turned on wipers, they don't work. Parked. Wipers didn't work in any gear, only N and P. Turned off vehicle, fan still ran. Parked for day. Took drive next day, sunny, about 6 miles, heard five consecutive beeps every minute or two. Everything else ok. I've read the same symptoms elsewhere online. People said leaky windshield. My questions. Fuse box? GEM? Both bad? GEM need to be programmed or not? Getting windshield replaced Thursday and will work with windshield tech to have my grinder nearby to remove rust. Have him dump a ton of sealant.
Yes. 2001 Lincoln Navigator here with the same infamous leaky ass drivers side. Twice now it leaked into the back of the Gem Module making my brother insane. When the weather cleared up so did the problem! I had to fix it when I bought it! This vid saved my vacation. Found a new one salvaged $50! Followed this vid and the look on my girls face when it fired up! TYTYTY! (Btw #10 socket behind the plug! D'oh!)
From my understanding (I called a FORD dealer) the GEM part numbers must be the same. I have a 1999 F250 SD 7.3 and gave GEM F81B-14B205-AC to the parts man at dealer, He gave me One GEM number that it also interchanges with ? I doubt it will work correctly in your 2003, ?
thanks for the video after getting a $5000 computer i found that it says my gem module is bad sometimes my truck will start and some times it will just spin over. i knew it was under the light switch but not sure where. thanks again
i just found out this year 96 has no Body control module. some show a module by battery but thats for cooling fans and engine. The 96 sable used the GEM instead. its the entire fuse box and on back is a GEM mother board. Discontinued. we are calling salvage yards for exact fit numbers
Rick Russel this is a 1998 Ford f150 as you see in my video the gem mod is located on the back of the fuse box . I got a salvaged board like you said . but this does have a bcm . It's located on the passenger side of you pull the side panel under your dash it's right there it slides out but you must unplug the connections that plug in under the hood thru the firewall . I can send you video if needed
I have a 97 f150 4.6 2wd. The power windows, interior dome lights, and wipers only work about 50% of the time. And if 1 doesn’t work, they all don’t work. They’ve all been working fine lately; but the last 3 days it started acting up again. Fuses look good. Could a bad GEM cause these things to happen sporadically? Or if the GEM is bad would they not work at all? The passenger window gave out completely and hasn’t worked in months
I have a 2000 f150 extended cab 2wd 4.6 my wipers windows an radio all stopped working my door locks are weak.I have replaced all my fuses and relays did not fix it but my dash lights headlights / taillights blinkers and horn do work
Jeff, thank you. I have some questions. We received heavy rains and wicked winds two days ago. My 2000 Ford Expedition was parked outside and in the morning nothing worked - remote entry, windows, dome lights and the vehicle won’t start. Where do I start? Battery? Fuses? Gem module? Thanks in advance for any help.
I've got a 2000 f350, I already had to replace my fuse box from corrosion because of water getting in. GEM was fine. I replaced my windshield, sealed my cab lights, new mirrors. I'm getting water pooling by my parking brake/ hood latch. Any idea where the water is getting in?
Lee Sandhop it could be coming from the plastic plate between the bottom of the windshield and the windshield wires. But I also had water by the e brake get a hose let water run over the top of the cab where you door meets the cab . Then turn off water open door and remove the flat trim between the carpet and the door. I bet you will find water in there then it runs foreward and settles where the e brake is . If that's the case it's coming from the top of the cab running down behind the weather stripping down to the bottom of the door threshold. Let me know please. If that was it. Thnx
Jeff Mount I have weathertech floor mats, so it's not very possible it's coming from underneath. Definitely dripping down onto it, is there a gasket/seal that needs replaced on the plastic below the window? I had the windshield done by safelite, so if it leaks again and causes the issue, they cover the damages caused. I appreciate your help and insight here, as I've been tracking down this gremlin for some time.
Lee Sandhop that's what I am trying to tell you mine was leaking from the top of the cab where the top of the door meets the cab down the inside of my truck door frame not the door itself but from the top of cab down behind the weather stripping down to where the carpet meets the frame under that plastic stripping. Then settling in a puddle right under me e break
Jeff Mount it's on top of a rubber floor mat, no carpet is getting wet. It's like it's coming off the parking brake or from under the dash that gets the gem usually. I've already dealt with a leak that took my fuse box about 2 years ago when I was in Texas. I'm now in Washington where we see a lot more rain. Just don't want to be stuck with another fried gem or fuse box but I'm having a hell of a time tracking the source here. Re-sealed my cab lights, that didn't fix it. I'm at a loss on this. I don't think it's the door gasket as it's not going down in the valley under the trim, it's coming from under/through the dash. Pretty open to any ideas at this point to get the leak resolved.
Lee Sandhop. Ya you get a lot of rain up that. Way .. it's amazing how water can travel. From the source of a leak and end up somewhere on the complete side of the truck from following wires and trim. . Well maybe amazing is not the word I am looking for in this matter. More like pain in the ass.. lol The only other thing I can think of is the plastic Tray you said needed to be replaced at the bottom of the windshield the underside of if there should be two drain lines that drain rain thru small drains to prevent water getting engine if there is no hoses coming of the bottom of that tray that's one way water could get in. Also keep in mind how your parked. Does your driveway have a incline or is it level. .if you have a slight grade in your drive way or street it's harder to trace the leak if it's not on level street also I parked my truck in my driveway. On a sunny day and opened. My hood to let light in and got under my steering shaft. Where the fuse box is and snapped some. Photos to see if there was in light coming into the cab. Sure enough there was a few places that I could see light from the sun coming right into. The cab. Let me know if you find it.
Good job, my friend !!!! Can I assume that this is the same procedure for my 2000 Ford Expedition ?? Other websites say this is so, but I'd like to double check....thanks for a very good video (compared to so many others)
Jordan for a used one from a salvage yard. you can get one for around 120 dollars it's hard to find a new one for a 1998 Ford f150 like mine. I have a used one for sale if your interested for $ 80
I replaced the intake manifold runner control ,My speedometer and rpm gauges stopped working on my 1997 Ford f150 as soon as I replaced it and cranked it up. any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it?
no Jimmy on mine my power windows went out my stereo my windshield wipers my dome lights my shift interlock and my turn signals and my windshield wipers went out all at the same time . this was all due to a windshield leak and dripping onto my gen module and fuse box . thanks but I've heard of other 98 Fords having the windshield leak problem in the gym module gets wet and one of the symptoms for that is the engine actually click or actually turned over to try to start a self by itself so more than likely need to replace the gem module
it sounds like it could be your gem module mostly caused my a small water leak in the windshield causing my done lights to go out and my brake lights my stereo my radio and power windows all stopped working. I have heard of trucks trying to start by themselves . do not hesitate if you have any questions
Jimmy, that is what my truck is doing now (the faint clicking sound under the dash). Apparently drains the battery. Did you fix yours? if so what was it?
In my 2000 f350 my truck was trying to start itself no key nothing in it. Just spinning endlessly until I pulled the battery terminals. Surprised the starter didn't burn out. Mine ended up being my fuse box corroded from water getting in. GEM was dry and pristine when I cracked it, so I opted to just replace the fuse box.
What was the point of replacing the module I mean any problems, issues or symptoms with the truck to find out the gem module was fried? Because a I have a 97 f150 with crazy dashboard gauges, when truck start they flicker all over the place and people it's been telling me is the gem module. BTW it has new battery and new alternator as well. any help would be really appreciate thanks
Check for rust holes behind drivers side kick panels,,also while your there check ground wires for rust also in same area,,check pass side too ,I found on my 97 bad rusted grounds on both sides
Ya know, after all the farting around, I'll just keep popping my wiper arm on and off as needed, since my only problem is the wipers stay intermittent. I got a new windshield without knowing the leak was causing anything other than stink. I've been trying to run a hotwire and toggle switch, but that electrical/computered motor makes no sense! Onward with my hayseededness.
Bobby G. I Would do a video for you. On a 2002 Ford Escape if I owned one. To do it on .. if you live in Southern California I would be happy to walk you thru on how to do it but I would need to see the car
Wow! I know you're all by yourself there but holy crow the camera bouncing and shaking around makes me nauseated. The jist of it all is there though. Thanks a lot for your help.
My symptoms are the same BUT... I lost my power windows too. Hey Jeff... How long did it take you to do this entire job? I parked my Navigator about a year ago because of the GEM module. (It was my extra vehicle). You made this look too easy. Now I feel like an idiot for not fixing it sooner... lol Winter is right around the corner and you cant beat this Navigator for bad weather! Thanks for the video man... It was perfect. With I found it 12 months ago ... LOL
Can you do a video for removing a 1996 Ford Explorer 4L GEM module? Mine isn't working and the estimate says it will cost $850.00 if they do it for me. I bought the vehicle for $1200.00 so I can't justify an $850.00 power window/wiper repair, the car is hardly even worth $850.00 itself.

Great step-by-step video - best on UA-cam. Thank you. Now to see if my 65-year old back and 1/8th ton frame is up to the task. Wish me luck.

This helped a ton on my 98 lincoln navigator, exact same set up around the fuze box and same exact fuze box
this is the best video i have seen on this subject, good work!
2000f350 diesel injection ponp
Great video! I'm parting out my '99, and keeping the GEM just in case my new-to-me 2003 ever needs it.

Great instructional video. I have to replace my GEM module tomorrow.
Was the windshield leaking onto the gem module? Once the module was out of the way could see where the leak was coming from?

Yes!! it def could . What was it did you ever figure it out, please reply thx
I've done that before without all the extra work this guy did no plastic need to be removed and get it out in less than 10 min
awesome why did you swap gem
Hi mr todd thank you so much for your help 1 question does the gem module have to be programed
What was the issue with the truck to start with? What made you decide to go after the GEM?
SO NICE SOMEONE ACTUALLY EXPLAINING THIS IN FUCKING ENGLISH 👊👊👊👊👊
Did your door locks or windows work....did u have problems with car starting

Sally sorry for the delay I would start with the battery as long as you visibly don't have water on the inside of your car
Great video. Do you know the bolt sizes on the back of the fuse box that you have to undo before removing the fuse box?
Joe Sheets Thnx I do not know the side off hand. But I can check it tomorrow if you still need the size

Very helpful! Thanks! I'm about to dig into my '03. Hopefully, it isn't too much different.
Did you get yours going?
where did you get the new GEM
Thanks brother for sharing this video ,muchas miles gracie..
Did you have to cut any zip ties from behind the module? I'm not able to twist mine like that. There are wires in the back that will not budge.
glad it helped Glen
What is the plug hanging down over the brake pedal. Mine is hanging down and window don't work.
I replaced the intake manifold runner control ,My speedometer and rpm gauges stopped working on my 1997 Ford f150 as soon as I replaced it and cranked it up. any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it?
What is that wire with a plug hanging down? Did it plug in the back?
Thanks! This might help. My truck is doing a ticking sound with the ignition off and I think it might be the Gem module, was that your case?

Great video,
Is your f150 a 4X4?
I need to replace mine but it's 4x4 .
Can you give me the part #
Ya know, after all the farting around, I'll just keep popping my wiper arm on and off as needed, since my only problem is the wipers stay intermittent. If i found a salvage gem do i have to get it programmed or is it plug and play?
Weres the exact location ofgem in 97 explorer
Can you do a video on a 2002 Ford Escape Gem Module replacement?
Bobby G. I Would do a video for you. On a 2002 Ford Escape if I owned one. To do it on .. if you live in Southern California I would be happy to walk you thru on how to do it but I would need to see the car
good job
Where did you buy your gem from?
Wow! I know you're all by yourself there but holy crow the camera bouncing and shaking around makes me nauseated. The jist of it all is there though. Thanks a lot for your help.
Well I replace the whole theft system on my truck being the whole steering column The flight is still rapidly flashing would you have any ideas why
cory dega
Try a new key new key chip or ignition
my windshield wipers quit working my turn signals my stereo my dome lights my turn signals all went out at once
My symptoms are the same BUT... I lost my power windows too.
Hey Jeff... How long did it take you to do this entire job? I parked my Navigator about a year ago because of the GEM module. (It was my extra vehicle). You made this look too easy. Now I feel like an idiot for not fixing it sooner... lol

what's wrong what's the car doing or not doing that they say it's your gem module
I will do it for 200
in your case I'm almost sure that you probably have a windshield leak that's what is going on with these gem module is going bad with are having windshield leaks they get wet hey can cause your stereo to go on and off intermittently your ignition to start when you don't even know the kid so you're probably right so if you look it up on the net forward it will talk about the windshield leak in the gem
how much does a gem module part cost about?
Jordan it's rare to find a new one for a 98 Ford f150 like mine you can get one from a salvage yard for about 120. I have one if your interested . or if you have any questions on installing one just let me know I would be happy to help .my email is laketree76@aol.com my name is Jeff this is my video you watched
I have a 98 gem module from a salvage yard for sale if your interested for about 60
