THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CAROL SWAIN When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats? Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect. Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination. The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s. In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans. The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander- in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln - the man who freed the slaves. Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order. Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support. During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935. But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back Free Courses for Free Minds .com into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes - laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote. And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest. As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes: “In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.” President Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, shared many views with the Klan. He re-segregated many federal agencies, and even screened the first movie ever played at the White House - the racist film “The Birth of a Nation,” originally entitled “The Clansman.” A few decades later, the only serious congressional opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 came from Democrats. Eighty percent of Republicans in Congress supported the bill. Less than 70 percent of Democrats did. Democratic senators filibustered the bill for 75 days, until Republicans mustered the few extra votes needed to break the logjam. And when all of their efforts to enslave blacks, keep them enslaved, and then keep them from voting had failed, the Democrats came up with a new strategy: If black people are going to vote, they might as well vote for Democrats. As President Lyndon Johnson was purported to have said about the Civil Rights Act, “I’ll have them n*****s voting Democrat for two hundred years.” So now, the Democratic Party prospers on the votes of the very people it has spent much of its history oppressing. Democrats falsely claim that the Republican Party is the villain, when in reality it’s the failed policies of the Democratic Party that have kept blacks down. Massive government welfare has decimated the black family. Opposition to school choice has kept them trapped in failing schools. Politically correct policing has left black neighborhoods defenseless against violent crime. So, when you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party should come to mind? I’m Carol Swain, professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, for Prager University.

I can find several things, but I know the history and know more about MLK than a few quotes from the I have a dream speech. He's gaslighting people because even when I approach his statements with the best faith I can. At the end shows actually his point. To ignore racism to stop racism. It's a concept that conservatives only apply to racism. If you apply the same logic to abortion. The second amendment or any other point conservatives find important. None of them would agree with me making the same argument but using abortion or government spending.
I personally don’t get his point, just because things are much better then in the 50s and 60s doesn’t mean there’s not more too be done. What if some politicians said that at least slavery is illegal, and we are the closest to racial equality as ever, so advocating for more rights would be offensive to Frederick Douglass, or William Loyd Garrison. That would be a ridiculous statement, and I don’t get why you could think his statement is not ridiculous.
As he said, we are very close, as close as we have ever been. If you look between the 90 until around the time Obama became president. Nobody was even saying the word racism. That’s because we are equal. Yes some people are still racist and some people will be that way. However there isn’t a single right a white person has that a black person doesn’t. There is no reason to call someone racist if they choose a white oerson over a black person. If you start choosing people for jobs or anything based off of their color, isn’t that just becoming more racist? I’m trying to apply for scholarships but 98% of them I can’t apply for just because I’m a straight white male. If we would stop focusing on race and just focus on what we are doing then this world would becomes productive and there would be little to no racism, but people focus on race in every situation which holds back progress and makes people so divided and thinking everyone is racist for no reason.

Vivek is correct. I’m Hispanic and I’m in my 60’s. But since Obama and Biden became presidents and the left have been in control, they have tried to divide the groups and will use any crisis to do so. This is truth, sadly.
I agree. It's one thing to have pride in each people's culture, history, community, ancestry...but it's another to create such a divide in our nation by obsessing over systemic racism, white supremacy or guilt.😢
How do you think Obama tried dividing people in the US, by lying about his American citizenship, banning Muslims, or repeatedly calling our cities “shitholes”?
I am amazed by Vivek, he is extremely intelligent and he articulates his point so well. The interviewers just fan the flames of racism, I totally agree with Vivek I believe people have come along way and MLK truly was the reason why that happened.
“Buffer” groups of people who are in the middle of the racial extremes (ie Black and White) have often served the agenda of the dominant (or better yet, domineering) group in society. They (ie the “buffers”) commonly and frequently sway their opinions between the extremes depending on what will serve them best… so I’m not surprised by this guy’s stance… I mean his people actually created racism and still define segments of their population as “untouchables”… Why must we all pretend there is no systemic racism when there evidently is? Yes things might be much better than they were during slavery or Jim Crow or whatever, but why should those still experiencing adversity from systematic issues pretend that all is well and dandy, just coz it is better than it used to be… We acknowledge the amount of racism I experience compared to my predecessors is significantly less detrimental to my life but we cannot stop reaching for the goal to stamp out racism fully despite it being significantly less than in the past.
You shouldn’t have white guilt. You’re not responsible for the actions of your ancestors. Your job is to contribute to having a free world while you’re alive.
I'm guilt free. Half my family LEGALLY migrated here just before civil rights passed. The other half LEGALLY arrived here fleeing Mussolini in the 30s. A huge portion of the population arrived here after the civil war. White guilt is a farce at best.
Wow 🤩 he’s 💯 spot on. I’m in my 60s and I had never seen anything about racism till Obama and the MSM started talking about it and dividing the people.
He is so on point. I come from a family that didn't have a racist bone in their body and is now a very culturally mixed family. They accepted people for who they were, not what colour they were, but sadly, this colonial, white guilt being pushed on white people is leaving a bitter taste in the mouth, and leaves you feeling defensive about things done in the past that no one alive today had any say over. It's actually having the opposite effect to the one they say they want. I'm starting to believe there are forces out there with an agenda deliberately sterring-up hatred. Divide and conquer, as they say.

The problem is that those who don't/aren't suffering from racism and who have/are benefitting from racism are the ones that are determining that racism is over. You may as well let the bank robber decide his own innocence. He will certainly tell you no harm, no foul. However, when you speak with the victims of his crime, you find out the ongoing impact and harm that the crime really caused, i.e., death of certain customers, police officers, stolen money that others had to make up (insurance), psychological damage to actual survivors, etc. So, maybe Vivek and other white people don't truly understand the damage they caused and are still causing with their built-in system of privileges, advantages, and protections, known as racism. So maybe they shouldn't be the ones deciding when the harm is over and whether things are equal or not currently.

THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH
ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
CAROL SWAIN
When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The
Republicans? Or, the Democrats? Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this
answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights
initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction,
founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against
the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission
was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it
entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case
Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven
justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both
Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-
in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln - the man who
freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated
President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed
the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed
slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment,
which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the
15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal
Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for
the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as
Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats
did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back
Free Courses for Free Minds
.com
into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with
measures like black codes - laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run
businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s
right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan,
founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”
President Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, shared many views with the Klan. He re-segregated
many federal agencies, and even screened the first movie ever played at the White House -
the racist film “The Birth of a Nation,” originally entitled “The Clansman.”
A few decades later, the only serious congressional opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act
of 1964 came from Democrats.
Eighty percent of Republicans in Congress supported the bill. Less than 70 percent of
Democrats did. Democratic senators filibustered the bill for 75 days, until Republicans
mustered the few extra votes needed to break the logjam.
And when all of their efforts to enslave blacks, keep them enslaved, and then keep them from
voting had failed, the Democrats came up with a new strategy: If black people are going to
vote, they might as well vote for Democrats. As President Lyndon Johnson was purported to
have said about the Civil Rights Act, “I’ll have them n*****s voting Democrat for two hundred
years.”
So now, the Democratic Party prospers on the votes of the very people it has spent much of
its history oppressing.
Democrats falsely claim that the Republican Party is the villain, when in reality it’s the failed
policies of the Democratic Party that have kept blacks down. Massive government welfare
has decimated the black family. Opposition to school choice has kept them trapped in failing
schools. Politically correct policing has left black neighborhoods defenseless against violent
crime.
So, when you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party should come to
mind?

@@MorpheusOne THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH
Democrats falsely claim that the Republican Party is the villain,
