I truly love the idea this video was made by Ellen holding Mike hostage and forcing him to sit through all these puns refusing to let him leave until this foul work is completed
Probably.
I actually thought after being dragged off by Mike, in the outro Ellen would be tied up in the background with tape over her mouth, her reign of puns abruptly ended. You could say the gag practically writes itself! *_ba-dum-TISH!_*
Would that be a pun-ishment?
Never thought I’d be jealous of Mike where Ellen is concerned
He definitely seemed like a captive audience at times
In this video Mike truly went to 'Ellen back'...
Edit: He really 'Rose' to the occasion.
🤣😂
Wonder if Ellen had to buy lunch as a thank you for the assist on the video?
I bet she went for a pun-nini...
@@gruggerduggerhoose Probably that or a pun pizza...
Boo. Boooooo!
@@gruggerduggerhoose Filled with pun-cetta?
Andy, watching Mike suffer after years of enduring him playing 'stealth' games: YES, YOUR FRUSTRATION TASTES LIKE VICTORY
Now someone just needs to make a game where you set off bombs with puns while racing in F1 cars.
@@TigerofRobare My inner pedant feels the need to inform Mike that Sturgeon are not "Sea" creatures as they live in fresh water... mostly rivers... not the ocean. :p
@@marhawkman303but thats why they need a sturgeon because all that ocean fish left them SALTY 😅
@@kiriuxeosa8716 hmmm perhaps... :D
I said it at the beginning of the year, and I'll say it again: the return to the studio has really seen an abstraction of the formerly rigid list-video form by the OX crew. Larger, overarching gags; increased breaking (or ignoring) of the fourth wall; a general lowering of the pretense that any institution is as put together as it tries to seem, but without losing the professionalism or quality of the product that institution creates. It's really lovely to behold.
I really appreciate what my Dad called "$14. words, but this was a bit much for even me. Maybe lower the dosage a bit? Just teasing. Great remark.
Mike, after the fish puns: "What is happening to me?!"
Ellen, under her breath in the background: "One of us, one of us.."
Did you mean "PUN of us"???
Gooble Gobble. Gooble Gobble.
@@achtsekundenfurz7876 Nice pun!
She didn't have to. I was also cheering "One of us! One of us! No wait... Pun of us! Pun of us!" 😆
Punning about fish sticks to ya, man, it reely does. Try it, you'll sea. You might flounder at first, but you'll skate through it eventually.
So, now we know what happens when Ellen is left alone without Luke, nothing but pun videos. I applaud this!!
I know, it is Punderful
@@knate44 Have you no mercy?
@@cocacola4blood365 you gotta admit it can be very pun to crack jokes. One might even call the situation punny.
Ellen better Luke out for Mr Westaway's return.
Best "not Ellen" moment 03:41
Best punny achievement 05:22 (and yes, they HAVE a persistent pun problem. They called their website "Steam" ffs!)
Best Ellen moment 10:44
Mike and Ellen giving full on siblings in the back of the car energy.
With how prevalent puns are in achievement names, I kinda assumed they were just studios competing with each other in some secret annual pun competition.
You mean a comPUNtion :D ?
ᶰᵒ﹖ ⋅⋅⋅ ᵗᵒᵒ ᵗᵒʳᵗᵘʳᵉᵈ﹖
@caernicus
Dammit, you beat me to it!
If there is such a thing, I hope someday they print the results in a comPUNdium.
Sheer pun-demonium
I haven't laughed this much in ages. Ellen is utterly irrepressible with her wordplay, and her cheeky delivery is a pure delight! Please do a follow-up!
For the Uncharted 3 achievement, I'm shocked it wasn't called "Holy Smackerel!"
Or 'Fishy Bashy Special'!
**dying** Holy Smackerel!! Yes!! xD
In an alternate universe, Naughty Dog named the achievement, "Holy Smackerel!" and you commented "I'm surprised they didn't call it 'He's gonna need a sturgeon.'"
That's way better...
In Mega Man 11, Fuse Man, an electricity themed robot, says nothing but electricity based puns, like "Assault and Battery."
I've heard a Child's Play themed song called Assault and Batteries.
I'm so happy Ellen got to have such a 'pun' filled time time with this one.
Punderstandable, have a nice day
Resident Evil 8’s “Not Lycan This” Achievement made me laugh too hard the first time I saw it.
These puns are so painful one could call them 'pun-ishing'...
Ellen is indeed, the PUNisher.
@@mysteryfist how is ratchet and clank a pun
This punishment is torture
I'm with Ellen when it comes to puns. Yes, they can be awful and I'll shake my head at them, but I also can't help laughing at them, and also just making a bunch of stupid puns.
I now feel the urge to go play Portal 2. I love GLaDOS's lines so much. One of my favorite bits of that room is also GLaDOS calling Chell garbage 3 times. First being pretty subtle, then about taking out the trash, and then a third time with her just saying she called you garbage a second time because you didn't react to the first one; thereby technically calling you garbage 3 times.
Even Alfred Hitchcock said that puns were the highest form of literature. Who are we to argue? ☺️
I absolutely love puns, maybe partly bc I'm not an english native speaker. But since I learned about puns I just adore hearing and making them, it's so much fun!!
Puns are great. Bad puns are even better, cause you laugh at the pun and laugh at how bad the pun is.
One of my favourite GLaDOS lines is “look at you, soaring through the air; like an eagle...
Piloting a blimp”
@@chumbucket3475 That's a good one. All her increased salt when she's a potato is fantastic. I always just sit and watch her freak out about the bird for a while before actually picking her up. I was actually really happy to team up with her against Wheatley. My first run was fully blind so I didn't expect it when I really should have. As for Wheatley, I love his line at the end about needing to figure out what's starting all the fires.
I can’t speak for the entire oxboxtra audience (but im gonna), an Ellen pun-o-orama video is one of the best formats on this platform.
The pun-ishing psychic damage caused to the rest of the team and implication that Mike is being held hostage to create this masterpiece makes for an... arresting proposition. Ok i’ll stop now lol
Don’t stop. That was gold.
I would love to give my expert opinion on puns.
Sadly, I'm no pundit.
Love the Lego games, in general. They're great for me to play with my kids early on, but they're also fun for relaxing and exploring on my own, too.
The achievements add a bit more fun to them. My personal favorite is "Do I know you?" if you pair up Captain America and the Human Torch on the first Lego Marvel Super Heroes game (think of the movies if you don't get it).
Also, my son loved getting crowds dancing with Starlord so much that he'd bring the game near-crashing with the massive crowds he'd collect.
I’m on Ellen’s side, puns are fantastic and Ellen saying “ursine of the times” was absolutely PUNderful.
I can FEEL Mike's soul wither away after each entry
I love how genuinely confused Mike looked when Ellen referenced Toploader. I like to think the "how the f**k do you know two Toploader songs?" line was unscripted
Achilles' Heel is also the superior Toploader song. Dancin' in the moonlight is soft-pop radio friendly fluff.
@@Panda-rb7fl I've never heard it. I love Dancin' in the Moonlight, but I like the original King Harvest version better
I just love the variety of things this channel covers. This randomness is why I subbed 2 years ago. Keep it up.
I'm still waiting to see my favorite one on one of these lists from Legendary (2008). "DouBull TroBull" for defeating 2 minotaurs at once. Not only is this a bad pun, but it's made better by the fact you immediately got a 2nd achievement called "I owe you an apology" where the lead designer apologizes for the bad pun and gives you free points.
I wanna buy the game just for that
Getting Mike on as Ellen's counterpart here was a stroke of genius!
Well she did need a Channel for this
@@JachAnen Boooo 😡😉
*Deep sigh* “To be fair that is a classic.” I’m dying! at Mike 😂😂
Pundamental indeed! In fact, while it might be eggs-treme to call many of the yokes here "puns", I'd say it'd be shell-fish to keep Ellen from having a cracking good time! Keep it up, guys!
Go to jail. 😂
@@esskay2195 A suitable pun-ishment indeed.
@@esskay2195 Doughnut collect $200. Doughnut pass go-fish.
> it'd be shell-fish to keep Ellen from having a _kraken_ good time
Missed one right there ;)
@@achtsekundenfurz7876 I went for egg shell and cracking an egg to stay on theme, but that works too!
I’m sorry Mike.
Have you considered an intervention for Ellen? You could gather the rest of the staff and serve some PUNch. 🤣
You're not sorry at all.
@@dr.bright6272 I sincerely aPUNigize for my behavior and I will work to correct myself. You can take my seriousness to heart as you can clearly see I am PUNishing myself for my words. I will reflect everything that has hapPUNed and will work to make sure it will never hapPUN again.
@@Ceece20 I still don't think you're sorry. But for the sake of avoiding your puns I'll forgive you
@@dr.bright6272 I PUNfoundly want you to know I will control myself next time.
@@Ceece20 please no more puns.
I can't decide what I love more about this video, Ellen's enjoyment of delivering the puns or Mike's annoyance at them. Both. It's probably both
This was one of the best 7 list you guys have done a long time. My wife and I were howling with laughter when Mike helped Ellen off the stage. Big love to Mike for tanking his way through this one. :)
In Minecraft, when you travel 500m in a single direction in a minecart, you get the achievement “On a Rail”.
You know what I love about Ellen's puns? She always thinks outside the xbox for them
Not sure what's worse, that all those bear puns are also in Oxventure, or that I still laughed
Either way, they're just grizzly.
Pawsome idea by the studio crews
"That was a pun, or play on words." As Death would say.
Just to add to it: In 2004 Valve released a making of Half-Life 2 coffee table book called "Raising The Bar". Truly masters in the way of the pun.
Things were getting a little "grizzly" at the end there 😁
Ellen finally gets her own video to enthusiastically do, like Mike with "cars don't work that way" and weird driving games, and Andy's hitman kills and weirdest fighting games :D
edit: 3:54 oh no he's infected
I think you mean he’s ‘hooked’?
This is pun-demonium, and it's given me a lot to pun-der. Ellen's clearly glad this is hap-pun-ing, though Mike seems to find the whole thing re-pun-gnant. A truly pun-derful experience
I love puns
Especially when it involves word play
Brilliant
i absolutely LOVE it when they fail to stick to the script without breaking. "clickbait and switch" genuinely had both of them reacting in their respective ways and it was DELIGHTFUL.
The "Over the Brink" achievement in Torchlight 2 is one I can't forget. You get it after defeating Brink, an NPC who's been helping you but turns monstrous.
Just yesterday, I got an achievement in Jedi: Fallen Order for exploring the crashed ship on Zeffo. It was titled "Alderaan Places."
I have a pair of Valentines theme Star Wars lounge pants that says “looking for love in Alderaan places” good to see that pun is alive and well
Love how the bear puns from early Oxventure made a come back.
In Total War Rome 2, you can also get pun achievements like "Thats my Boii" for completing the campaign using Boii, "Struck a Nervii" for completing the campaign using the Nervii, or "Backtria to the future" for completing the campaign using Bactria.. My favorite one is "Thrace for Impact", you get that after completing the campaign with Odrysian kingdom referring your kingdom's home province which is Thrace 🤣
Yet another reason to love it! :D
Halo Master Chief collection has a slew of pun achievements. For example beat Halo CE's the maw with par score and you get the All you can eat achievement.
We love you Ellen. Don't ever change.
God, I need this dynamic more. Are Barnaby and Lilith going to be the next non-group session of Blades in the Dark?
I love some of the jokes in the Uncharted series. Like in #3 when they're in the town under siege, they've climbed to the roof with a pool. If you mess around there long enough there's a little Easter Egg dialogue where he goads her into playing Marco Polo while he's in the water & she's out, then calls her out for it.
You two really smashed this out of the park, mike struggling not to laugh with the fishing puns was very enjoyable.
Great back and forth banter here, love to see you back in the studio after COVID.
I love how Mike just gets more and more exasperated as the video goes on (and how he's not allowed to leave 😂)
I'm aware it's extremely outside your wheelhouse, but...Europa Universalis IV has to be mentioned. Sure, like a lot of strategy games, it has loads of achievements (334 currently). But I went through the list on Steam, and I reckon that at least 35 (so over 10%) are puns, the worst of which is probably "Spaghetti Western", for starting as Bologna and forming Texas (or Mexico).
Best episode yet! Bring on the puns!!!
Just lock Ellen in the pun-ishment room. (I'm sorry, I regret my actions 😞)
Guess you could say mike was baited into those fish puns.
Awesome video can't wait for part's 2, 3 and beyond. 😉 🤞
To this day, one of the only things I remember the game NeverDead for is a brilliant bit of achievement wordplay. At one point you need to rescue some people by getting them to a helicopter. You do so, get an achievement called "Evacuation Plan", then seconds later the helicopter is destroyed and the achievement "Premature Evacuation" pops.
I also remember it for Dave Mustaine's completely dull original music.
3:32 What do you mean by 'REJECTED' Monty Python? Fish slapping dance is a classic!
I knew there was a reason as to why Ellen has always been my favorite.
It’s great to see that even with her regular partner ELLEN ROSE to the occasion...
I remember in the game Legendary for Xbox 360 there was an achievement for defeating two Minotaurs that attack you, and you get an achievement called DouBull TrouBull, then another achievement immediately afterwards apologizing for the pun. That pun has stuck with me for over a decade
This is why Ellen is exceptionally excellent! 1) She knows puns R fun 2) She allows for an appreciable amount of awesome alliteration 3) She throws out rhymes from time to time 4) She not above a little innuendo in-your-end-though. In short, she a truly cunning-linguist.
"How the **** do you know TWO Toploader songs?" made me CACKLE
There was more than one?!?
Makes me question how Mike knew...
The bear one was just Grizzly
Octodad: Dadliest Catch had a tie with a hen on it. The description: I've seen enough hen ties to know where this is going
My favourite punny achievement is also from Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4. There's an achievement if you use Polyjuice Potion to turn into Severus Snape and then hide inside a barrel: Solid Snape.
Looked it up... Paracetamol is called Acetaminophen in the US and is the active ingredient in Tylenol. Just in case anyone else was wondering what the heck they were talking about.
This has helped me understand a Family Guy joke from years ago. As an English bloke, I wasn't quite on board. Thank you, random citizen!
And you can't find any Paracetamol in jungles, because the parrots ate 'em all (say it and the drug name out loud).
@@AthAthanasius I remember my Dad telling me that one when I was a kid. Classic!
They did the fish pun for the halibut
Ellen, the entire Ratchet and Clank series is built on two things innuendo and puns(and crunch but that's something for another time)
I love this episode. The world needs more puns.
Be wary guys... If you take one paracetamol per Pun, then you MUST limit your daily supply to 8 puns/day
Ellen overdid that at the bear-y end then
Idea for Oxventure. The adventurers have to defeat an enemy only with puns.
That's just a Bard using nothing but Vicious Mockery.
So this is a trash mob, then? Bosses need to be challenging.
I have never identified with Mike more. I sincerely hope he got a bonus for this.
I'm very much in the Ellen camp. We need more pun filled videos and yes, Mike has to be in them all!!!!
Ellen is just awesome
_"They're pundamental to the channel!"_
It is at times like these I am sad I have but one upvote to give. (Also 👻👻👻, obviously)
Stray has several as well. There's "A little chatty" for meowing 100 times (remember your french) and "Can't Cat-ch me" for ... well, that'd be a spoiler. As would several others.
There's also another cat game called "Catlateral Damage". The name alone should say enough, but it has things like the obvious "Catastrophe", and "Night at the Mewseum" and "All Pawerful".
Hmm ... I wonder if there is a correlation between liking cats and puns.
Mike's grunt at 10:03 is me when the meeting's not over yet.
Ellens energy was just *chefs kisses* from the get go, matching the theme of the vidoe perfectly.
There's countless achievement puns in almost every single game, so I doubt a commenters vidoe will be made
I love pun security Mike escorting Ellen out of the building. Hopefully her crimes won't go un-pun-ished
Ok, now we need a video where Ellen makes Pun-Combos and see how many hits she can dish out in one go.
Best she had was a 3 hit combo at the end of this one, I believe she can do way more then that.
Ellen I love you! You are soooo punny! I wanna watch a bunch of shows with you and try to come up with ALL the puns!
2:16 The two grunts that fall over sound like they’re reacting to the pun
9:50 - that TopLoader reference really had me on Cloud 9
Never stop Ellen. We're here for the puns.
Mike holding the clipboard with a confused face could be a beautiful template
Neverwinter has a few pun achievements.
One example is found within their Chult module. There are several hostile animals in the jungle, and if you kill a lion, a tiger, and a bear, you receive the "Oh, my!" achievement.
Another can be found if you complete the Lair of the Mad Mage dungeon. Upon doing so, you are awarded the "Player of the Mad Mage" achievement.
I love that Mike hates the puns and all these achievements, while Ellen explains why each pun is amazing and so funny. perfect balance
"It's ursine of the times!" Okay, that pun was good.
Fun analysis & list video! Thanks for uploading!
I do not have the words to convey how much I loved this.
Puns. Always puns.
I’ve been watching this channel for years, and this is by far my favorite video.
What is a bear's favorite pickup line?
"Hey! What's Ursine?"
No, Mike! Never ever stop Ellen's punage. It is one of my absolute favourite parts of the OX experience.
“Pundamental to the channel” and “Ursine of the times” were both top tier wordplay
🤩 This video seems like such a great pun-ishment for anyone that doesn’t appreciate fun kinds of wordplay so thanks for creating this awesome clip!
Excellent video. I can imagine all the giggling during it's production.
as Mike found out the hard way, fighting the puns just makes them stronger
Those bear puns were just too grizzly for Mike
I could watch an entire video dedicated to Ellen's puns! SUPER funny!
2:40 "Well well well" That's a deep subject.
Age of Empires II Definitive Edition is packed with painful pun achievements. The one that takes the cake however is "Vladislav, baby don't hurt me" for completing the Vlad the Impaler campaign
Literally everything in Final Fantasy XIV. The localisation team had a LOT of fun.
The first one that comes to mind is the FATE "It's Not Lupus", where you fight a giant crab named Cancer, and the achievement you get for beating it is called "Full Remission".
