Early 90s was fun. You had so many random consoles that sucked for the most part, but it was fun to see so many innovative ideas, even if they didn't work...SegaCD, 32X, 3DO, Atari Jaguar. You had Genesis vs Super Nintendo. Then 64, PS1 and Saturn. But I do think Xbox, PS2 & GameCube was the peak of gaming.
2001 was basically the strongest culmination of creative videogame products and platform choices competing at the same time In history. Think about It you had thriving Arcade scenes still relevant In every mall and every city , PC was making revolutionary leaps , then you had the Dreamcast at It's peak , PS2 starting It's prime , both Gamecube + Xbox arriving later that year (1 with a landmark killer app) along with a brand new Gameboy Advance , all available on store shelves by 2001 holiday season.
I remember going to this trade show. 2001 was awesome. Got to get my hands on metal gear solid two, silent hill, two, Simpsons, hit-and-run, Halo, Star Wars, rogue, squadron two Luigis mansion. All before they even came out. This is before E3 died and got rid of the booth babes too. This is the real E3.
Certainly the in-person buzz that conferences like E3 offered seam to be long gone. Direct-style presentations are cool (and convenient), but nothing beats watching multiple, large scale E3 presentations from each of the major companies then to be treated to a week of showfloor coverage (or to experience the showfloor in person, if you were lucky enough to have that opportunity).
@@theblah12At that point, it's highly subjective. There's no definitive answer that's best for everyone, there's truly something unique of going to the E3 events physically that you couldn't experince elsewhere or online. Today, they really should continue the physical aspect of E3 and also part of the game announcements/trailers both physically and online.
