ALL of Triumph's songs convey a positive message! Besides Kansas, they are the only other non-christian rock band that does not sing of sex, drugs, etc.. Does anyone else out there realize how hard it is to have hit songs that are genuinely wholesome? I'm glad this music means so much to so many as it does to me!

Phenomenal singer, guitarist, songwriter! Get chills from the lyrics on hold on! There's a celebration, deep within a song: Music holds a secret, to know it can make you whole, it's not "just" a game of notes, it's the sounds inside your soul, the magic of the melody, runs through you like a stream, the notes you play run through your head like a dream! HOLD ON!! Beautifully written!!

The reason I find this song so inspirational (and many other also) is because it has a basic christian message and spirit of encouragement to it. The Bible says, "he who endures to the end shall be saved." and "he who overcomes I will give him a white stone and my name will be written on his forehead, " Rev. 22:3. I picture Jesus saying the same thing to those who believe on his name. "Hold on. I'm coming back soon. Don't give up." This song is special also because it does not encourage the typical debauchery we hear in a lot of rock music, ie...., Drugs, sex, wild women, wild men, gang banging, killing police officers. and the list goes on.

Hopefully, Heaven or other positive force will bring other band like Triumph, etc.; and other greats like Aretha Franklin, the Miracles, Temptations, James Brown. Today's music pretty much sucks, although there are some jazzy atmospheric and ambient modern music that is good. Classical music will always be great. Many rockers started by playing classical music. Elvis started singing and playing Gospel, as did Aretha Franklin.

AM/FM radio really sucks, because the same musical spam, dumb, trite and musically unappealing songs, are played over and over. The best and most awesome stations are in California. There is one from Hollywood Hills that plays the most awesome, deep tracks ever from the 60s and 70s. No musical spam like on AM/FM is ever played on the best radio stations. However, to get the best Cali stations, you may have to sign up for Satellite or a streaming service.

    Triumph - Hold On Lyrics
    Music holds the secret,
To know it can make you whole
It's not just a game of notes,
It's the sounds inside your soul
    The magic of the melody
Runs through you like a stream
The notes that play flow through your head
    Like a dream
    Like a dream
    Like a dream
I sing this song for the common man
    For the people in despair
I bring my song into the world
    And I sing it everywhere
The simple truth lies waiting here
    For everyone to share
So hold on, and I will take you there
Hold on and I will take you there
The daily routine takes your soul,
    Lost without a trace
It holds you down and turns you 'round
And puts you in your place
    Another day, another dollar
    Another pretty face
    Another chance to lose yourself
    In the endless race
    [Chorus]
Hold on, hold on to your dreams
Hold on, even though it seems
Everyone around you has their little schemes
Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams
    Can't you feel the magic
    Feel it everywhere
    Can't you hear the music
    There's something in the air
    There's a celebration
    Deep within a song
    Celebrate this feeling,
You know it can't be wrong
    [Chorus]
    Caught up in routine,
    You got to break it
    Time won't wait for us,
    We got to make it
    Fate gives you the chance
    You've got to take it
    Take it
    Hold on

When I was in high school, one localish (45 miles away) radio station called K104, played the top 104 songs of the year every year on new year's eve into new year's day. And this was their #1 song for 1979. I couldn't agree more! And I was lucky enough to see Triumph play it when I saw them in early '82.

They must be Canadian..Geddy Lee /Rush is one of the most overrated (and annoying) bands of all time. Just IMHO, but Triumph is musically and vocally superior in every way to that hack trio Rush. Every time I hear a Rush song on the radio, I change the station.

    • @diceytrust2768
      @diceytrust2768 7 років тому +6

Bill M I don't know if the commenters are Canadian or not, but I know Rush has a big following here as well. I don't hate Rush, but their lyrics are often politically motivated, and that in itself is a turn off for me. Triumph's music is so up lifting. Music candy for the human spirit. And yes, Ric Emmet's vocals are superior to Gettys' that's for certain.

this song makes me teary-eyed. It reminds me of high school when things were so much simpler than they are now. All I had to worry about when I used to crank this song in my car was the girl (one in particular) I was so close with, and how amazing we were together. Now, It makes me long for those days and how much I miss that girl. I wonder now, 20+ years later is how she is. What she is doing. If she thinks about me at all...

Came out when I was 13. I was a victim of child abuse who thought God was talking to him through pop music, telling him which way to go. A whole bunch of pop music came out in 1981, and it didn’t all have a positive message like this. Something to think about if you’re an artist. More people in your audience than you realize. Some of those people feel they have very little left to lose.

It feels strange, but I don't know Triumph. In my about 2000's LP collection would not contain any Triumph's record. Apparently the Triumph was not so well known or popular in Europe or Finland than there. But there is a lot of music that brings tears also to my eyes. It may also be a new music. For example, the lyrics of Felix's songs are very touching. It is a very good thing that the words of Felix's videos are also written in the description. Without it, I am not able to understand his words.

That was true for so many of us. Most of us had to endure some brutally painful HS days. We gradually realized that the world would always fall far short of our expectations; and that life will clobber us, if we are not very careful; and sometimes even though we try our best, we will fail. We grow to learn that we must get tough and soldier on. Because, sometimes work and adult life are much tougher than HS.

    Music holds the secret
To know it, can make you whole... it's not just a game of notes... it's the songs inside you're soul. The magic of the melody runs thru you like a stream ... the notes playing flow thru you're head like a dream.... like a dream....
This song describes just how music does affect us, and to the very depths of our being, is truly scripture from a spiritual realm that music can have us all relate to, and knowing that you're heart can sing with joy, to bring peace and happiness within each and every one of us. And a smile appears when you know you're there already.

Roger Burtnick Isn't that one of the most amazing things about music? That it can instantly take you to a specific place in time and the memories are so crystal clear? It's such a blessing to me. There are specific memories that only exist BECAUSE of a song. Example: While cutting jr high one day to be with a group of friends (one being the bf I spoke of previously who's son I now know), we were doing a then popular (and stupid) thing called hyperventilating, (intentionally passing out and dangerous), and while I was out, they had placed my head right next to huge speakers. When I came to, the air raid siren in the beginning of Sabbath's War Pigs was playing. While I in no way condone our behavior, it was a very special time in my life filled with the best music, new experiences and awesome friendships. When I play that song, I instantly remember waking up that one time and how much fun we all had on our adventures growing up. If I lost my hearing and could no longer hear music, I don't think I would survive my life. It's a major coping skill for me. Music heals. At least the good stuff does, as I know it also can destroy if you listen to the garbage that's out there.
