Thanks for doing these videos, Chris. Seems like everyone with a channel does "PSA reveal" videos now but they dont do the finantial breakdown. Chris Sewell - often copied, but never duplicated! Still the best card collecting youtuber around.
Would love to see you circle back to these types of videos about 6 months later and discuss your breakdown of what actually happened with each card. Still have it, sold it for this, traded into these, decided to resubmit, etc… Always enjoy your videos.
That Bob McAdoo card was shifting and floating around inside the slab as you held it. That can and will damage a card. For the prices they ask for grading they need to present a lot better product than the current one. Sadly it seems reveals these days from PSA will almost always have one or two cards graded 6 or lower for no good reason. Sad!
I came here to mention the McAdoo card shifting around inside the slab too. I wouldn't be worried about it actually damaging the card, but I'd much prefer to own one of the same grade that doesn't move inside the slab. I know Chris said he doesn't plan on fighting about the two broken slabs, but I would think PSA would happily wave the grading fee on those two. Especially for someone that grades as many cards as Chris that has his following.
@@pncrusePSA doesn’t care about complaints because people keep feeding the monster. Just look at Chris’s order; cracked slabs, shifting cards in holders and low grades on nice cards. Do you really think PSA is “professional”? The good news is that sooner or later a disgruntled ex-employee will come out with the truth about PSA and blow them up…although I bet graders have to sign non-discloser agreements before they work for PSA. I honestly believe the day will come when all those slabbed cards in PSA holders will mean nothing.
That order seemed pretty rough, but once you got to the financial breakdown, you were still quite ahead. It is pretty amazing how the several hits boost the overall bottom line, as you say.
Between the skakira card and the womans soccer cards . I assume chris has a daughter. Even with no video shows how the hobby is expressed as family time. Collector, investor, dealer, dad
Thanks for sharing, Chris. Glad you had a few big hits to help out. I have a similar sub in assembly right now with a mix of stuff from the last several decades, some PC, some for resale. This video is helping to temper my expectations.
The radical transparency is awesome, Chris. There has to be a buyer out there who understands that collections, like rebellions, are built on Hope Solo.
You got lucky on your cracked cases. The last order I received had two cracked cases right in the lower left of the cases and damaged both of the cards that I was using to make and sell a set. I was really disappointed, but like you said there isn't much I could do about it.
Nice sub! You got some very nice grades for sure. I have been doing really good with my vintage reveals with my pregrades to what I get from PSA. I just posted a modern reveal that I was very nervous about but got some bangers for sure. Great grades on some serial numbered cards with extremely low pops. New subscriber here!!
So, if I understand your math, PSA made about $900 (before expenses) and you made $1610 (before expenses) from your order. It’s good to be PSA. I’m sure that less experienced graders don’t capture 2/3 of the increased value!
Interesting that the McAdoo didn't come back as minsize since it moving around quite a bit in the holder. i would think you could ask PSA to re-holder the two cracked at no cost to you - don't crack without checking with them.
Guessing it was UPS that delivered your damaged package back, all my orders that have been damaged from submissions with cracked slabs have been from UPS. Here they got a massive pay boost for their drivers and yet they are the worst delivery drivers. My brother is a driver for the company and iv worked as a helper for 3 holiday seasons for an extra cash side hustle on top of my normal job and I can tell ya first hand packages are not handled with care from the warehouse to your door, from all parties that touch it majority of the time. Best company to ship or receive packages with is USPS -postal service full stop. UPS just doesnt care and throws packages into the trucks , its straight up air mail crashing all around while in transit. I used to raze the drivers i worked with telling them to chill out on tossing shit around in the truck it was that bad. Havent used UPS since seeing how they neglect peoples packages, especially when its a heavy day.
Always enjoy your PSA reveal videos. I'm curious why your order took so long. Of the 12 orders I've sent in this year either at the $19 or lower special they have been door-to-door 25-55 days. The recent ones have been on the longer side of 50 days since they were part of the $15 special and PSA got backed up. THere is always that 6 in the order that on first glance is a head scratcher but least for me I have found they usually have a half moon / thumbnail like indent that I missed.
Forgive me if you already have a video for this, but could you do a video detailing what to look for to predict 8, 9, 10 before sending in? Also, with that what to look for with raw Vintage where it's more likely to be somewhere between maybe 4-7. Thanks for all you do!
I’ve also started tracking my grading wins and losses, and like you it seems like a handful of cards drive all the profit wirh most cards being only a nominal profit or small loss e.g. getting a 9 when I thought it had a shot at a 10
Is there ever a time where you'd send in a low numbered card knowing it might only get a 6 or 7 and just get it slabbed as authentic? I had two auto jersey cards (2005 Mattingly #/25, and 2005 Todd Helton #/10) that I felt I would be lucky to get an 8. Neither had been graded by PSA before. After going back and forth on it, I decided to just grade them as authentic. Curious your thoughts. Cheers!
Just had the same grader as my ratio was 7-10's, 17-9's, and a 6. Hard to think about it. Good cards but didn't get that bump either. Just looses out on potential profits. 80's and 90's cards too. Alot of low pop cards. Thanks for the reveal. You've been on the other side before where you got the grade.👍
It seems so easy. But I consider you an expert and you still hit or miss quite a bit. I'm sure I would miss a lot more. I like these kind of videos, they keep me grounded. And keep me collecting and not try flipping or dealing.
I can accept psa being tough on grading, but I don't think there is any excuse for stuff coming back from them damaged (even if it happened in shipping, its up to them to make sure everything is well protected IMO)
No explanation for low grades. You're just left to wonder. Extremely long return waiting times. Edit: Then you're also left to wonder about your cards & their grades for months. That could be stressful & I haven't even graded cards yet.
People are blinded by resale 🤷♂️. I cut off ties with them two years ago when they charged me for a card they didn't grade. They're corrupt and IF I ever grade again I'll use SGC
@@jk-califkid5017That’s a damn good point as I never thought of that. I have to do some eBay price searches of vintage PSA and SGC cards that look the same, but the SGC grade is higher.
Chris, if you had the '83 Star Lakers team bag (or team set, as you said, if it's no longer bagged), you should send in the James Worthy sometime if it's even halfway decent. That's his first NBA-licensed card.
Thanks for the reveal! When I submit my PSA cards, they usually come back in numerical sequential order, did yours? From the video it seems like it was not in order. Just curious.
Would be interesting to see what % of sales are your "packaging" costs. Package being the plastic slab. Generally, packaging costs are 10% or less, of selling price for most businesses. Selling price in your case would be what you receive after commission/fees.
I just got an order back with about 40% psa 10s. What bothers me is the couple of cards that got a 6 or 7, they look the same as the 10s. Hitting a few 10s does pay for the order.
It still astounds me that people buy PSA 10’s over 9’s when nobody can tell the difference most of the time. I don’t have one PSA 10 in my collection as I will gladly buy the 9 at a much cheaper price.
Way too many PSA 9's, Thats why i dont use PSA anymore.. i use SGC i rather 9.5 than a 9.. Overall great video this lets me know PSA is still harsh with grading..

Ouch on some of those grades and what was with the cracked holders? Will PSA re-slab those for free since they were damaged in shipping? I really appreciate your financial breakdowns as it really helps me think hard about what to grade and not grade for not only my PC but for profit.
I’m so sick of the crap PSA pulls on collectors; it really makes me sick. If PSA wanted to be legit, which they don’t, they would state the reason(s) a card got the grade it received. But PSA knows they can keep giving high grade cards lower grades and get away with it.Never trust a PSA grade on a card; inspect it yourself first, learn how to grade a card, then go from there.
You said you weren’t charged for the 2 rejected cards but you put them as a -$40 loss, did PSA charge you for those? Also some of the chrome cards looked like they may have had some slight greening/fading on the surface. Maybe that was the reason for the lower grades .
Watching this video makes me feel like PSA is a shi*show. Low grades for seemingly no reason, cards moving around inside holders, bad packing job that results in broken slabs, not grading legit cards. I guess when you’re king of the hill you can do whatever you want and not really be held accountable. I would definitely let them know about the broken slabs even if you don’t want to do anything about them, just so they’re aware and maybe look into how they package large orders.

A question about your PC, esp. your Cal Ripken PC as I have a player that I collect hard core also. Why do you care about cards that were made after that player’s career is finished?
I think PSA 9...is a good grade...if anything...PSA seems to grade harsher now than they used too. I've watched other grading submission videos on UA-cam with, worse results than what you have here. Could even make an argument that PSA 9 cards are, undervalued in some cases. Just my 2 cents.
I've seen some other UA-camrs recently talking about their cards allegedly getting damaged while in the hands of PSA. Is this becoming an increased problem or is this something that just happens sometimes?
