The houses and cars are still amazing and unique, but this game needs a remaster on some of its lesser qualities.
It has a better launch than TDU2 and an actual decent driving model. Even The Crew 2 is better than TDU2 in a lot of ways. ~TDU2 player that was there at launch month and bought dlc for it (THAT'S INACCESSIBLE NOW BTW)
@@TheFurryInShambles While I absolutely agree, that the driving model is definitely better and more satisfying in Solar Crown, I think it would be sensible to expect a TDU game to finally have a proper launch after 11 years, instead of them shooting themselves in the foot yet again. Back then I would think that maybe the player influx was unexpected, the server costs would be too high to risk allocating lots of them for launch day and so on - now it's just unacceptable with how the tech evolved and how much more money corporations have now. I really hope that TDU:SC will have it's redemption arc before it will get proclaimed dead or before it loses most of the players ☹
@@MilesFox92 Yeah, I would agree it should have had a better launch from the jump, but these are the same, not anymore, official WRC devs we are talking about. They solely focused on rally games and were handling a gigantic project that they stupidly told themselves will outdo the past TDU games, but that's what screwed them and handicapped the game right now, doing the same crap Eden Games did when all they had to do was make a damn copy of Midnight Club with TDU elements.
yeah except for when you get "daddy was a dj" and "bang bang bang" playing on both radios at the same time, i just have to turn it off when that happens
I remember I had to pick 2 games when I first grabbed my 360 Moh 2010 and TD2U because it fit my budget lol . This was 2011 I will never forget the Intro to TD2U, everything felt elegant and true to cars. I was late to my 7th grade class waking up early to drive 8 miles for 30 min to get my destination in the fast back ahhh the memories.
I only played test drive unlimited one, and did not have xbox live at the time. Never got to experience it with others and see its full potential but I had a good time.
Yeah But obtaining it is near damned impossible now with the online servers down Unless your on PC And You use a modded save game otherwise to get that car on console is impossible sadly
This brought back so much nostalgia… and reminders of the headaches this game caused! Solar Crown has been an overall good experience so far; There’s room for improvement but great bones overall. Can’t wait to watch your review of that!
wow, your issues... i never had any of them and i have this game on ps3 and PC played both through many times, but for me its the best racing game to date
Against the background of this content, it would be interesting to see your opinion about TDU World - the guys did a great job on the Test Drive Unlimited 2 project. Updated the physics, opened the DLC and even launched a server for the PS3 version!
An absolute masterpiece! I love everything about it except the car physics. I started playing it 2 years ago with the Project Paradise 2 mod, and I'm still loving it!
Yeah, the way this reviewer should've played and reviewed the game, because that's closer to the intended experience than his buggy offline xbox 360 version. TDU2 was always intended to be played online.
Great review, Spencer. I still prefer the first game though. And now, in 2024, we finally have TDU Solar Crown (TDU 3) which may be good, or it could be terrible, which will most likely be the case. Keep up the great work.
I'm glad (and sorry) that I'm not the only one that had a save file corruption in this game... although mine came after I had completed everything on Ibiza 100% - even including discovering every road... Great review!
I liked the game a lot. It's one of the few games I come back once in a while. For me it's the islands, just taking my favorite car for a drive and because the map is so big it feels like a road trip, I like it kind of for the reason I like Euro truck simulator
I always felt very conflicted about this game. It nailed the island cruising experience but actual racing and progression wasn't enjoyable almost at all. And what in the world was that livery system? Why can you only customize the current top layer and why are there no values anywhere telling what its size, width and angle are let alone the coordinates?!
Your timing is impeccable, not a day later than 15 years! Just as the long-awaited sequel releases 😂 PS. This is one of my favorite racing games of all time. It is definitely one of the major factors that contributed to me being a car obsessed person.
As someone who grew up with TDU 2 and is still playing it to this day, i can understand where you are coming from. This game is far from perfect, but it achieved some things that new games still can't, it was ahead of it's time. I think it's very important to call this game a driving game rather than a racing game. Yes, racing was part of it, but it wasn't the focus. Even then, the variety in races was cool - speed traps, speed challenges in addition to the usual races and time trials mixed things up. Only the eliminator was quite boring and repetitive. Plus the side quests are kinda fun and casual, you can't take them too seriously (like the story). Also, stalking that car falls under the bro code since his gf is cheating on him xD I think you missed out a bit on the progression and how rewarding it is. It really needs some time until you can afford a super car for example, and it feels that much more rewarding when you get your dream car. The same can be said for houses, there is just nothing like buying the Yacht after you completed the story line (cause most likely only then can you afford it) or a villa in the mountains. Your experience was compromised by the lack of online functionality, with PC online mods (as you mentioned) like Project Paradise 2 you can do multiplayer races, use the casino, join clubs, use the Community Racing Centre to upload and drive custom player races, invite others to your house, be a passenger in someone else's car, and most importantly, cruise on a huge map with up to 8 players at the same time - which is honestly the best thing you can do in this game. Sounds boring, but there is nothing like it. Not to forget that you can open and close your roof, windows and use turn signals which is especially nice when cruising. Also, how dare you not mention the car wash xD In summary, maybe you'll get to try out the game online on PC. It's still quite active and getting 20-30 players per day.
I'm so glad to see that eden was able to bounce back after the great atari crash of the late 00's. i'll definitively pick up gear club on switch later.
If Eden Games had an extra year of development, and more focus on quality over quality, this would've been a perfect game, and a perfect evolution of the first game.
I Actually replay TDU2 via TDU world, and oh boy what a souvenir !! They did a great job with server online working, high polymere cars, the physics eis lightly redone. Master piece for a 13 YO game
I would drive my red TTs Roadstar on the coast and just drive slowly. I would wait until sunset put on Hariba Radio and just chill. Then my friend would come on and we would go on wee road trips. We would go to The Casino. Then race together. Made friends with this random man from Finland. Then my pals charecter got plastic surgery and since the game makes your face all wrapped I took photos of him and put them in every slot in my in game house. I know thus games not perfect. But this game was just so freeing to me back in the days. Just mostly because me and that friend don't speak to eachother anymore. Just grew apart.
I remember playing TDU1 and hating so much the racing part that I ended just cruising for hours instead of racing. It was ground breaking to have a virtual vacation in a game. However, TDU2 never got me that much because the novelty wore off and the cringe NPCs, bad physics and bugs were too much to tolerate at this point.
the real tdu magic vibe is this, tdu was the goat and original, but tdu2 was phenomenal, minus the aweful handling of course, the music, the environment and open world to explore, the npc characters
TDU was one one my favourite games on PSP. Never got around to playing number 2 .. don’t think Ferraris where in number 1 ? :( Keen as for a Juiced review! Played so much of that on PS2
I really, really loved this game. Unconditionally. I could never play it online or purchase the DLCs and I got it when the servers were already down. All that love aside, I hated the handling of some of the cars as they just spun out of control. The social aspect of the game and the incentive of trying to be a social character in this game always appealed to me and I can see how Forza Horizon and The Crew games were trying to sort of emulate that feeling.
No matter what others say here in the comments. I think TDU 1 and 2 are just as much fun today as they used to be. Sure, the handling takes a bit of getting used to. But you figure that out after a few races. But in terms of gameplay, the old TDU games are still some of the best games I have ever played.
I missed out on the TDU games. But I have somewhat redeemed myself in a game that also takes place on the island of Hawaii. It's just a more modern game, that game being the crew motorfest
Worst part of it the introduction of offroads. TDU 1 was about long drives. In this game when you decide to start from north Oahu with you Ferrari, setting your gps to south Oahu, it will take you through dirt roads to get there. And guess what? All the asphalt vehicles speed ia maxed out about 50 60 mph. So on most of your journey you will slug around. It will always baffle me how could they implemented that idea so horribly...
I downloaded it yesterday of my steam. After some fafing with unoficial patches (otherwise, the game runs at 11fps). It was a good nostalgia trip. But the shaky camera gave me motion sickness. Definitely did not hit as hard as when I first played it. (Id be down for a remaster with better optimisation. But given how sh#( the new game is. Its unlikely)
From the PS3 version I remember the final patch messed with camera motion as you accelerate, it made both cockpit and chase cams much worse :( Idk if there's a mod to stop it
Yeah, say what you want about TDUSC, but TDU2 had so many problems I couldn't play it properly in the end. I bought TDUSC because it's a "reboot" in a sense, the second, maybe last chance to redeem its name as the OG of open-world driving game, and since release game already runs much smoother than TDU2. It's just that there's still a long way to go for them, and at least they got their priorities right compared to this one.
For anyone interested, there is a way for you to play test drive unlimited 2 on pc online with others called project paradise, there is also tdu world but that has community modded cars in it.
My review would be - Dodgy handling, slightly dodgy car models, feels slightly rushed with the 2 radio stations and repetitive dialogue, but beyond that an excellent game with a great map (even ignoring the ported Hawaii) and a very clever multiplayer system, improved from the first game and imitated by everything today
@@PointNemo9 The video points it out very well - the cars have a huge oversteer problem that can't be countersteered in any way. Once you're in a slide, you're stuck in a slide until the game decides for you the slide is over.
@@jamiedavinci1328Same people btw who probably hate modern gaming are telling us they still openly enjoy one of the worst triple A slops in gaming history, though I'm not surprised, people still say the non PS2/non Wii versions of NFS Undercover to this day that it's a good game, um where buddy? 😂

Let SC cook, it will get there
Let's not forget the awesome soundtrack
yeah except for when you get "daddy was a dj" and "bang bang bang" playing on both radios at the same time, i just have to turn it off when that happens
The only game featuring the Wiesmann MF3. One of, if not the coolest car of all time.
You're an inspiration and we highly appreciate the work you do! 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Been waiting for this review for so long!
The TDU games blew my mind, all that road to drive around was something I never experienced before
Glad that community servers for pc exist for this game such a gem game.
Agreed
Oh wow, this was one of my first games on the PS3.
Can't wait for your Solar Crown review in 2050
Your timing is impeccable, not a day later than 15 years! Just as the long-awaited sequel releases 😂
PS. This is one of my favorite racing games of all time. It is definitely one of the major factors that contributed to me being a car obsessed person.
Would love to play this again what an amazing game ❤
Also, stalking that car falls under the bro code since his gf is cheating on him xD
I think you missed out a bit on the progression and how rewarding it is.
Also, how dare you not mention the car wash xD
In summary, maybe you'll get to try out the game online on PC. It's still quite active and getting 20-30 players per day.
Thanks for this buddy, I'm gonna enjoy watching this over some breakfast.
Honestly the best game reviewer how you don’t have a million subscribers is criminal
I'm so glad to see that eden was able to bounce back after the great atari crash of the late 00's. i'll definitively pick up gear club on switch later.
TDU 2 was awesome! This game is the sole reason I own an ML63 AMG. So sad to see what they have done to this series now.
TDU2 has never been a racing game. It was a vibe, a rich kid simulator.
Yes Juiced review sounds epic haha.
12:37, i forgot police used sports cars as well
the real tdu magic vibe is this, tdu was the goat and original, but tdu2 was phenomenal, minus the aweful handling of course, the music, the environment and open world to explore, the npc characters
TDU was one one my favourite games on PSP. Never got around to playing number 2 .. don’t think Ferraris where in number 1 ? :(
Keen as for a Juiced review! Played so much of that on PS2
Really interesting video
Man the goofy music gave TDU2 so unique
I still play this game to this day lol
Early squad, now this is what ive been waiting for!
>uses worst version of tdu2 (xbox)
>complains that game feels unfinished
apart from physics, this game is masterpiece. use PC version or PS3
They should remaster it. Solar crown is a fail..
Compared to TDU Solar Crown this one at least even works better and with non servers partly 😅🎉
Best game ever made
It had like 30 real minutes race across the island, just like in recent The Crew Motorfest
I remember this game being really hard
It took me more than 10 tries to complete some of the license challenges and the races
So forward thinking for the time though despite its flaws
I did not expect a Tool reference 14:51 😂😂
Worst part of it the introduction of offroads. TDU 1 was about long drives. In this game when you decide to start from north Oahu with you Ferrari, setting your gps to south Oahu, it will take you through dirt roads to get there. And guess what? All the asphalt vehicles speed ia maxed out about 50 60 mph. So on most of your journey you will slug around. It will always baffle me how could they implemented that idea so horribly...
Few points ;
Voices were way better in french (OG capture)
And i remember the """"car wash""""
I downloaded it yesterday of my steam. After some fafing with unoficial patches (otherwise, the game runs at 11fps).
It was a good nostalgia trip. But the shaky camera gave me motion sickness. Definitely did not hit as hard as when I first played it.
(Id be down for a remaster with better optimisation. But given how sh#( the new game is. Its unlikely)
Change to roof/bonnet cam, it's much better
Try it with dxvk it should up the framerate by a ton
From the PS3 version I remember the final patch messed with camera motion as you accelerate, it made both cockpit and chase cams much worse :(
Idk if there's a mod to stop it
With what? @@Dregomz02
I played TDU 2 for 10 of hours and never heard of the corupted save.
It's not a problem if you download the update.
Tdu world also has PS3 servers
@@gkan1042how can I join to those servers ?
Although it had its flaws, I had a great time playing it.
The NFS Undercover comment was so mean 😭😭😭 stop attacking my favorite games
The carwashes 😂
My review would be - Dodgy handling, slightly dodgy car models, feels slightly rushed with the 2 radio stations and repetitive dialogue, but beyond that an excellent game with a great map (even ignoring the ported Hawaii) and a very clever multiplayer system, improved from the first game and imitated by everything today
What exactly do you think is wrong with the handling? I recently completed the game with no assists and didn't have a problem with it.
Bruh characters almost looking better than SC 😂
